Anyone know a good spot(s) to purchase camping gear?

Thanks

Walmart has a lot of camping stuff. Sometimes I kill time just browsing in that section. REI of course as well.

REI rents tents, bags and stoves. You can buy excellent gear there and if you dont like it you can return it any time even years after purchase. I like that about them. Ive done a lot of climbing and camping and I like to bring stuff back if it is not right. You get a dividend so in the end its not more expensive than anywhere else. They have REI outlet.com if you are looking for bargains.

Also SierraTradingPost is very good for price and quality http://www.sierratradingpost.com/?afsrc=1&gclid=CP3-naTVo8QCFWgV7AodQGwABA&codes-processed=true

Walmart is crap. They have brand name stuff made especially cheap just for them - I would not bet my comfort in the outdoors on their merchandise.

Dicks, REI, EMS, Casual Adventure.

STP if you use the discounts and don't mind waiting.

Short answer: REI. Slightly longer answer: depends on your camping needs.

If you're not gonna be camping much or camping right out of your car, I wouldn't pay large sums for great equipment. REI sells solid equipment, and even their cheapest is better than the crap sold elsewhere.

If you really want to get into it or just like good equipment, consider buying second hand. There's alway somebody out there who bought a really nice tent then decided they don't like camping. Camping stuff is one of those things that you can sensibly buy used, even sleeping bags and the like (which you can launder). If you can find any MSR stuff used, buy it - outstanding tents and bags. If you're new to camping, make sure you buy a sleeping pad. You'd be surprised how many folks don't buy one given how comfortably they'll make your experience.

Best of luck.

I saw a 45 liter Bear Grylls backpack at Walmart. Would be interesting to try. Was only like $60.

Take it from empty campsites.

Where'd they go? Why'd they leave all their shit here? It's mine now!

You can buy new if that is your thing - BUT

If you look on CL, ebay, or Facebook market place you can find great equipment that has been used but a few times, and then the owner decided camping was not their thing.

Always inspect carefully before buying. Vintage used/NOS American made equipment is your best choice. Decide the type of equipment best suit your needs, and be patient to find the best deals. I find my best deals in the winter months.

Good luck.

How does one "inspect carefully" something being sold on CL, eBay or Facebook?

Inspecting at empty campsites is a breeze.

Thanks for sharing peeps! We just got a winter baseball cap and ice tent from Sibereon (AZ, USA) and we are loving it. I also need to buy a lot of stuff on Amazon.

Good day. In fact, there are a lot of places now where you can buy camping gear. For example, I recently bought a great backpacking hammock that I really liked. It's very easy to install, it took me less than five minutes.
