Fairfax County Road Conditions

So I am hearing that a lot of the roads out there are in rough condition exacerbated by incompetent driving. What are you experiencing on your drive to work this morning? I really need to be at work by 10:30 but I don't want to get caught up in hellish traffic. Should I just work from home today?

R28 was plowed but surprisingly rough. Average speed from 50 to Frying Pan ~ 25mph. Cars abandoned on road. Slowed to crawl frequently. And 15 minutes to commute.

Beltway was dangerous. Got off at Braddock to cut through via Edsell which was bad but not as bad as 495.

That's because the side roads had less rain compounded into ice, the main roads fought the snow more with vehicle traffic.

That built up more ice before being overwhelmed by the snow and cold temperatures on the main roads.

So that resulted in a thicker layer of ice.

Got it. Usually the side roads are worse because everybody drives on them for three days until the plows show up and do nothing but skim the surface of the fossilized packed down snow and ice that lasts until some time in April.

FF County Parkway was treacherous from Route 50 to 29. Like an ICE Skating rink.
You couldn't tell what lane you were in......crazy frozen.

Old Keene Mill and Rolling Road are in bad shape. 395 North is great.

I'm heading that way now I will report back assuming I don't get hit by an overworked plow driver

I saw two ice giants and an ice dragon. One of the giants was laying siege to giant foods. This is the last transmission I will be sending.

I love to observe how snow like this brings out the brain dead among us. My favorite today was the lady who literally cleared a mixing bowl-sized hole on her front window and a cup-sized hole out her driver's side window so she could see her side mirror. Rest of car totally untouched. Driving in heavy traffic with road spray coating her front - she was unable to use windshield wipers and couldn't really see out the front.

The best part was I could see her reflection in the side mirror - she was squinting over the steering wheel talking on her cell phone.

The worst part was she was driving about 20 mph in the left lane of 3 through lanes. There was no possible way she could see if there was anyone in any of the lanes to her right.
