Government Employee Uses Government SUV to try to Intimidate Blogger

If you are concerned about pedestrian or cyclist rights/safety, the government wasting money or government intimidation then you need to read this story about what happened on to me on Monday.

I noticed a large black SUV (Suburban tag US government 0055M) illegally parked blocking the double cross walk (two cross walks a few feet apart) at Pentagon Row. Pentagon Row is an upscale dinning and shopping center. My initial concern was the safety of those using the crosswalk. Approaching cars cannot see pedestrians coming in the crosswalk when someone has parked an SUV there. It is very dangerous. So I went to gather information and left.

As you may have noticed from the license plate this turned out to be a US Government Vehicle. I thought it was interesting that a government vehicle would be used to visit somewhere such as Pentagon Row. By Pentagon Rows own description "Welcome to a fantastic little pocket of perfect. Eat til your soul's content. Prepare for total retail domination". Yeah, sounds like official government business to me!

But if you think that is questionable use of a government vehicle what happened next is even more questionable.

I'm in the parking lot across the street when the government employee drives the government SUV 0055M across the street and then drives up close to me as if trying to scare me.

He then starts demanding to know what I was doing and if I was taking pictures.

I politely say to him "Sir you were parked in a cross walk:".

To which he arrogantly replies "So".

He keeps trying to berate and intimidate me so I leave the parking lot.

That is our tax payer dollars at work waste folks.

If you see similar waste or find this concerning you can contact howsmydriving@gsa.gov .

So basically are tax payer dollars are going to pay for federal employees to perform criminal acts: trespassing, stalking etc. Wonderful

First of all, Pentagon Row is in Arlington, not Fairfax. Second, there are still government offices there.

So he was parked in a crosswalk, so what. (You didn't post a photo or say if there was room to park behind the crosswalk.) There are probably hundreds of similarly parked vehicles all over the area.

You don't even know what county you were in, hence you just sound like a crazy babbling chick on the rag. You were interfering with a government employee and wasting our tax dollars.

Most don't do that much. Way too much effort and initiative involved.

Sovereign citizen wannabes should all be arrested and locked up in a library somewhere. Maybe Indiana.

Are you a government employee? Do you illegally use US government vehicles to run your personal errands at high end shopping centers too?

Yeah and stuff like using government credit cards illegally is much more rewarding than stalking. He needs to learn from the other government employees.

Exactly what type of government work occurs at high end shopping centers? Are the federal employees trying to claim Starbucks as an official expense again?

Security and investigative, just as examples. The Secret Service could have been providing security for someone there. Or there could have been an investigation of someone living above the stores or working in them.

An entitled government wastrel idiot. It is ILLEGAL to park in crosswalks in both Fairfax and Arlington Counties. You are devoid of common sense. Look up the Code yourself if you don't believe me.

Which justifies them illegally parking in a crosswalk and endangering pedestrians when there is a parking lot across the street? And I seriously doubt than anyway. Mostly likely getting a coffee or running a personal errand.

Look it up yourself and also look up the exception for official business. It's not illegal.

The regulations state that government vehicles must obey traffic and parking laws (unless for emergency use or there is absolutely no other way to carry out the task). With plenty of parking in the area there are numerous other options. But then you are most likely coming to the wrong conclusion that they were on official duty. And if they were there because of a politician shame on the politician for allowing pedestrians and others to be endangered.

And furthermore once they left and started stalking the blogger they were definitely not on official duty anymore.

At first I thought the subject said "jogger". Was this a typo or was someone actually "blogging" in a crosswalk? Sadly it is actually believable that people walk around on public streets blogging from their phones/tablets and not paying attention to traffic.

It's reasonably safe to conclude that someone sitting alone in a government suburban is on official business, and most likely waiting for colleagues. It's much more of a stretch to imagine the jogger/blogger's scenario that the employee is off duty and dropping his wife and kids off for shopping while he waits at the curb, in a government vehicle.

The jogger/blogger is obviously very stupid since does not seem to understand a reason for government employees to visit businesses. At any time there are literally thousands of security clearance investigations underway, as well as hundreds of federal criminal investigations. These investigations require meeting with people, and sometimes following them. Duh! As mentioned the secret service and other agencies also provide security for certain US citizens and visiting foreign dignitaries. All these situations could require a vehicle to be poised ready to leave on short notice rather than parked across a street in a lot.

The jogger/blogger says she "went to gather information and left" and then the suburban drove up next to her in a parking lot -- literally to gather information -- about the jogger/blogger's own unusual behavior. We are only hearing one side of this story, and the jogger/blogger does not elaborate on how she went about "gathering information". Evidently whatever she did was enough to arouse the curiosity/suspicions of the government employee. If a suspicious person approaches his vehicle with no explanation, then leaves, he is justified, even obligated, to investigate. That is not "stalking".

Do you not know the difference between parking on a curb and parking in a crosswalk? Even in the unlikely scenario you described it is still illegal for the government employee to be parked illegally. Not to mention this type of activity is supposed to be reported to GSA by the public. Are you a government employee who also likes to park illegally?

According to GSA regs "You must limit the motor vehicle body size, engine size, and optional equipment to what is essential to meet your agency’s mission". It doesn't take a Suburban to pick someone up from their supposedly official shopping trip. So regardless this should be brought to the publics attention.

Suburbans are pretty much standard issue, and some agencies don't drive anything else. If you have a problem with that, do some research and you will find plenty of ammunition for your case. However don't hold your breath for the Secret Service and FBI to get Priuses (Prii?)

I had this problem with the Amtrak tactical team, who would park a Ford Excursion in the space between the cross walk and the first parked car. Email the head of the local precinct. Be sure to mention you are concerned about pedestrian fatalities. They will fix the problem.

Second, who gives a shit? Maybe he was abusing his power, but maybe he had a legit reason to be there in that spot?

Get a fucking life.
