Fairfax County Becoming a City ? Lets Talk
Posted by: The Riverman ()

From the thread "How Many People In Fairfax County" And now that threads name is changed. I asked Brian S a question, he gave me a question and I answered So , Lets continue this discussion. Fairfax sends much more money to Richmond then it gets back. I feel its way past time for Fairfax to become a city with 1.1 million people and elect a Mayor whould would be "In Charge
and Accountable to You the Citizens" A mayor with the power to hire and fire senior county officials.

The Questions ? What is so great about a part time Board of Supervisors form of government with a appointed County Executive to "direct" a county of over 1 million people.

Would a city council be compensated for their work? How Much. Who would want the job.?

Why would it be better or worse to become a city?

Who would be a good choice for a new Mayor?

What would the new city be named ? This will be better then the rename the Redskins threads!

As far as a name goes I'll offer up a few: City of Fairfax County simple and to the point. Fairfax County City . County of Fairfax City.

I tried to post the thread some words are banned Pityfull Useless.

Quit being so closed minded. There is no need to "rename" the Redskins. They could just as easily be "remascotted" and retain the Redskins name while using a peanut or potato for the logo. That would make injuns happy and they would go off the warpath, and the Redskins could stay the Redskins.

Your other ideas are not worthy of response since you fail to even recognize such an obvious solution to the Redskins and Indians war.

This idea was tried back in the 70's but a congressional committee killed the idea.

My mistake, the proposal to merge with Clifton was in the early 60's, not 70's.

Note the phrase "But the Virginia General Assembly has looked coolly on a city charter for a half rural county in the past."

Half Rural County? Todays Fairfax County ? 1.1 million pop.

The job of Mayor would be perfect for the President when he leaves office, close to Wash DC, keeping his hand in the game of executive orders, plenty of gleefull voters to elect him and keep him in office. Large salrey Democrats rejoice!

And keep sending your tax money down to Richmond. And start coughing up more as Fairfax County needs it.

Princess Anne County became the City of Virginia Beach in the 60's. No reason Fairfax County couldn't become a city now. We could keep more of our revenue local instead of sending it to the ROVA leeches. I like the City of Fairfax County.

Exactly right.CityNow.

Some have said Fairfax gets 9 cents out of every dollar sent to Richmond. So Im shilling for a good cause.

What is a laugh is people who gripe about high taxes, many other issues and yet they dont want to do anything to change the county government to a government with a leader in charge . And keep more of that Richmond dollar in Fairfax.

Its no wonder county agencys have a free ride to do just about what they please. Ed Long has to get the boards approval to do anything and the board likes to keep things looking like its all smooth sailing so they dont look bad. No ones in charge and Thats all there is to it.

Im also surprised that the politicians have not been for this, the job of Mayor of a City of Fairfax County would be a very important job and a easy stepping stone to the Gov office or US Senate or Congress.

Wanna be Politicos out there take note! Heres you chance to get the ball rolling. You never know the job of Mayor of the City of Fairfax County could end up putting you in the White House.

maybe obama's "opponent" (sure to loose candidate rom-knee - who admitted to forcing closure of american companies to favor imports)

maybe rom-knee knows where they "got the money"

very different from the U.S.A. law, where in significant false printing of money

is a TREASON to the county, and a death penalty

(smaller ammounts printed by mob cat and mouse, prison time)
