Celebrity deli falls church

Been a while sense I have gone, 3-4 years and in my opinion the place has gone down hill. The service was horrible, food was bellow average for a place that mocks a NY deli and I have the worst squirts after eating their on Thursday night. Everything my table ordered sucked except for the fries. What happened to Celebrity deli? It use to be a falls church staple but now it is just another low end eatery with 12 dollar sandwiches that charge a few extra bucks for fries. Did the place switch ownership? The filtered Yelp reviews are absolutely horrible. I'll never step foot in that place again.

I had a couple of friends who worked there like 20-25 years ago. They had great steak and cheese subs back then, but it's been at least 15 years since I've been in there. Now Casa d'Mama takes care of most of my sub needs. The place in Fair City Mall is pretty good too.

I think they changed owners back around 2009.

Stopped in once around that time and it looked like ownership had recently changed. Menu was way overpriced for very mediocre food.

Never tried it again...

Same here, overpriced. 12 dollars for a crappy sandwich that does not come with a side. BTW it is Celebrity Delly. For a Reuben or pastrami sandwich I would spend my money at Chutzpah.

I moved to the NoVa area in 1991 and found this place in less than 1 week. Yes, it was unbelievably great for a number of years. I haven't been back in 3 or 4 years after I had 2 or 3 visits and undersized sandwiches. Especially the Triple Deckers...i.e. Corned Beef, Pastrami, Chopped Liver. They used to be monster size sandwiches and so lean. Not so the last few times.

On a high note, the Matzo Ball soup they served actually taught me how to make it the same way at home. Never had it that good (EVER), maybe that still is served that great. Yes, prices are somewhat higher. I may try it again in a few months.

On a low note, Chutzpah is nothing special. Had some really tough brisket served to me twice. That upscale Deli joint in DC I have totally avoided as I heard from some friends...never, never, never. Bernie's for Corned Beef, Amphora or Bagel Cafe for Lox and Bagels. Good sky high CB sandwiches are hard to find in this area.
I did hear about the Corned Beef King and his Food Truck I would like to try. Heard the sandwiches are super great and high quality.
This was an honest review.

I was there last month. They made my hot sandwich ("Mighty Milty"), which is supposed to feature cheese, without any cheese. And corroborating the person who started this thread: Yes, it gave me violent shits.

Used to eat there back in the day.

Try Papa Johns Fairfax City. They're all over FFU. You can even get a big discount if you know the secret pass word. Look for Katie Eastman threads.

Why would anyone even compare Papa John's to a NY Style Deli restaurant??? Huh.

Papa John's is not even better than DiGorno.

The subject is Corned Beef, Pastrami, Deli Food, not a Pizza joint. Duh.

Been going there for years and still like the place.

The cute blonde waitress is one reason.

I eat there every now and then and haven't had a problem. Cost some but the food has always been good. Been going there since they opened in the 70's. Actually had a burger for the first time there that was pretty good. I usually do the Pastrami or a Club.

Their website says that the original owners retired and now their daughter and son-in-law took over.

Been going there for 15 years and it hasn't really changed much. Take out subs are still the best in the immediate area, plus I can sit at the bar and have a couple of beers while I wait. Try doing that at Subway.

^^^^Comment above is correct, the original owners retired and the kids run it. My only bitch is that they ditched cable TV to save money and use some bull shit streaming service instead. It sucks.
