Why is Vienna Virginia so loaded with mattress stores? Is there something Vienna has that say Fairfax doesn't......Wondering.

Why complain that there are four mattress stores in the span of three blocks? Why not complain about the number of restaurants? Is it bad that Potbelly, Zoe's Kitchen and Chopt all just decided to come to Vienna? No, it speaks to the vitality of the area.

I love the way that the chairman of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce puts down his martini and stumbles to the keyboard to rise to the defense of Vienna...as reliable as clockwork.

Bed-bug infestation. Check for the tiny red bite marks usually evident on the face and arms of the next Vienna resident you encounter.

The reason Vienna has so many mattress stores is because they don't have any upline burger shops.

Who is complaining about the plethora of mattress choices. Without the mattress stores, Vienna would be nothing! A few casual ho-hum national chains does not exactly make me beam with pride, but our mattress stores are another thing altogether!

Do you know what are in some of those nondescript unmarked warehouses at the end of Mill St.? The ones where Caboose Brewery wants to open? Think about it.

Having such an abundance of available mattresses makes Vienna perfect for a Northern Virginia mass orgy.

It is ironic that you would use the term "upline" when Vienna has an Elevation Burger. Is that "lofty" enough for you?

Vienna residents enjoy making love as much as anyone. We just choose to remain faithful to one partner.

I love Vienna, only place I can get a mattress and a rub and tug at the same time from one of the local Viet rub and tug joints. When I'm finished, I go to the Vienna Inn, get a slut, and end the night at the Vienna Inn.

Despite the name, the Vienna Inn does not offer accommodations. Perhaps your "story" actually took you to the Wolf Trap Hotel.

See...that was why what I said was funny. Because there ARE upline burger shops in Vienna. In fact, there might be MORE upline burger shops in Vienna that there are mattress stores.

It would only make sense. Fatties who eat a lot of burgers wear out their mattresses sooner.

It hurts doesn't it?

To know that 123 is just a slightly up-scale Rt. 1 with a higher density of mattress stores.

Is that the best you can do? Ride your scooter from the Cedar Lane Apartments to the Marco Polo restaurant, chill out, have a glass of chianti, and try to type something a bit more original.

Route 1 in Hybla Valley has three mattress stores rather than four. Is that your big zinger? Next time, check the difference in per-capita income.

Who knows off the top of their head how many mattress stores are in a certain area? (Unless we are talking about Vienna which is obviously famous for its number of mattress stores.)

I bought a Sleep Number bed 9 years ago and it is still like new...should last another ten years. Every night it's like a brand new bed and I can change the firmness to suit my mood or condition. More and more folks are switching and as the demand for innerspring mattresses dwindles these stores will have to close.
No doubt to reopen as Hookah parlors.

You might check around the intersection of Lee Highway and 236 in Fairfax. They have more than enough mattress stores to satisfy you right there.

Yes, that cluster in and around Kamp Washington is mighty impressive. The Sleepy's at Fairfax Court would seem to be just inches outside the line, but Fairfax City still has nine mattress outlets, giving it 1.44 per square mile. Of course, that includes two (Bif and Haverty's) that are really more like furniture stores, but even without them, Fairfax City would weigh in at 1.12 mattress stores per square mile, a certainly noteworthy total.

But for real-deal mattress store overcrowding, just head over to the home of overcrowding -- Falls Church. They have a Sumo wrestler-like total of 1.38 outright mattress stores per square mile. More than Fairfax City, 50% more than Vienna, and likely the highest mattress store density in the area. It's a wonder there's room left over in Falls Church for all those spas and salons.

LOL! "West" has one syllable. "Vienna" has three. "Country" Has two syllables. "Congested" has three. Your meter-fucking efforts earn you a musical "F". You can put it up on the mantle next to all the others.

Meanwhile, only west county goobers get bogged down trying to traverse Vienna. Boondocks to Tysons in the morning, then back to the boondocks again at night. what a sorry, sorry existence! Can't even call it a life!

Those among the wise and well-off enough to be from the Vienna area of course know the in's and out's around here and simply don't involve themselves in that sort of nightmare. Sucks to be you guys, I guess.

Wise and well-off is the key combination. You don't much wantpeople around who are dumb enough to pay a million bucks for a house on one-seventh of an acre. My shed would barely fit on that.

The simple facts are that Falls Church is the leading mattress store center in Northern Virginia. Hands down. No one can or will compete with 1.38 mattress stores per square mile. That number is in a league of it's own.

Falls Church City is otherwise just a dusty, decaying, overcrowded burg that is every day losing ground to the sparkling new and far better appointed communities to the west. Not to mention all the glitz of Ballston to the east, or the fact that the new Tysons itself is but a quick Silver Line ride away. Falls Church, in a word, is toast.

We get it. You hate all that raw data that shows Falls Church to me a more prosperous, well to do location with far greater potential than any outside the beltway shithole. Your opinion isn't supported by facts or anything more than butthurt envy.

You need to look no further than their location. Behind all the unmarked rolling garage doors on that strip are piles of mattresses. If a successful business goes in there what do you think that will do to rents the mattress kingpins pay to store their excess inventory?

P.G. County has a greater concentration of liquor stores per square mile than Vienna has mattress stores.

I don't see restaurant variety as a bad thing as long as they're not shitty
Why so many mattress stores though?

Bogus and unoriginal. Let me assure you simply as a much, much smarter person than yourself, that the future does not lie with Meat in a Box any more than it did with Karaoke Idol. Falls Church is dying a little more each day. There is not room for more people even if there were more people who wanted to move there. Your product has been passed by. Your price-point is now FAR from attractive. The writing is on what will soon be a West Arlington wall.

No hate. Just a good look at the actual history. Greer and McLaughlin simply have no depth or experience. They are like a couple of high school kids off on a lark. As the result, mistakes have been made, deadlines have been missed, opportunities have been lost, and progress on the whole plan has slowed to a crawl. It's nothing personal here. Lots of those who set out to open their own place one day fail at it. That's just how it goes sometimes. Hopefully, these two can somehow rally and get their act together at some point. But things are not looking all that good at the moment.

Did you know that household income in Vienna was greater than Falls Curch in 2000? In a mere 15 years, Falls Church has raced by Vienna in terms of affluence. Vienna is the one withering on the vine. It's a mere speed bump on the way to Tysons for those who live even further outside the beltway than those in Vienna.

Meat in a Box is actually among the top-rated restaurants in Falls Church. That's in part because the selection of eateries there has crumbled just as rapidly as the rest of the place. Nobody goes to Falls Church to eat. People who are already in Falls Church leave and go someplace else. There are so many better alternatives elsewhere.

Hahaha! Yes, these west county goobers are quite a hoot. With its curves, dead-ends, and cul-de-sacs, the Town of Vienna has for 60 years kept the through-trafficker wannabes off its neighborhood streets, penning them up on 123 or shunting them off onto bypass routes that never enter Vienna at all.

> A price point that keeps going up and up and up.
> Obviously people don't share your moronic opinion.

Homes have little value in Falls Church. It is LAND that has best-use value as serial overcrowding has pushed population densities to Arlington-like levels. That best-use increasingly is in high-rise and other high-density development. Nobody wants to pay big bucks for cramped quarters jammed so close to each other that the only views are of pavement in one direction and the neighbor's trash cans in all the others.

The code? That is not going to protect you at all, asshole. What was once done in response to the pleas of one monied interest will simply be undone at the behest of another. You need to grow up a little here. If you did, you would quickly recognize the simple fact that Falls Church is transitioning away from what it once was. Ballston, Baileys Crossroads, and Tysons are in the process of swallowing it up. There's no stopping it now. Say goodnight, Gracie.

Oakton has how much high-density, transit-oriented development? What kind of walkability scores does Oakton have in comparison to Arlington's? Plainly put, Arlington today -- much like Falls Church in the very near future -- is not at all what has been traditionally thought of as a suburban setting.

Oakton is still a suburban setting, and though lacking in any form of local government, it is buffered on one side by Vienna and may have a shadow-chance to remain in its present state for a good while. Problematic may be the presence of Falls Church City on the other side.

Same can be said for Vienna. Unless you think those algae covered ramblers on/off Tapawingo, Kingsley, etc are holding all the value. LOL. You have no clue what you're talking about. You've been destroyed at every turn.

Read this again, and let it sink in:

Household income in Vienna was greater than Falls Curch in 2000. In a mere 15 years, Falls Church has raced by Vienna in terms of affluence.

That, my imbecilic idiot, is what shows Vienna in decline with respect to Falls Church. It's a fact, not an opinion. Vienna is falling behind day after day, year after year. The numbers prove it and you can't refute them, you'll just come on here with more of your nonsense and bullshit. Watch, you'll prove me right in no time.

You don't depend on any stores at all. There are none there. You have to go somewhere else for everything. Might as well be some gated community. Nothing there but row after row of SFH's and a barely noticeable population density of 1,323 per square mile.

Pssst... That's why people choose to live there. Not everyone wants to live in an overcrowded pseudo-semi-urban setting with houses packed together, a Rt. 1-like traffic corridor in the middle, and mattress stores on 4 corners.

Your walkability bs also is bs. You nor much of anyone else actually walks to do shit in Vienna anyway.

There are nine million-dollar homes in the first block of Kingsley Road west of Park Street. These are all in "Vienna Woods" -- the supposed "bad section" of town. Yet every one of them sits on a larger lot than "Falcon's Nest", the premier Falls Church property lately on the market.

Because the only buyers for these aging, cramped, and overpriced dumps are investors and flipper wannabes hoping to cash in on the impending collapse of Falls Church as an SFH-based suburban community.

See, you did prove me right! And, as predicted, it was nonsense and bullshit. While Falcon's Nest is but one $1M+ home on the market in Falls Church, there are plenty of other new construction homes in the same price range. More pesky facts getting in your way.

It's no wonder you're out of your league here though, you apparently think Falls Church shares a border with Oakton. Another typo? LOL!

Coming from someone rooted in Vienna who can't see beyond Tysons, that is rich. Vienna, Falls Church, Tysons, Mosaic District, North Arlington, etc. as stand alone entities do not matter. It is all part of Northern Virginia, which itself is tied to the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. If it weren't for the larger whole, each of those wonderful enclaves would whither and die.

There was a time when some of these hamlets actually did mean something. They were where you went if you needed something beyond what your local strip shopping centre provided. Those days are pretty much over. Some of these hamlets (including Vienna) no longer have some of those necessary stores. Meanwhile much of what those hamlets do have can readily be found elsewhere.

There may be reasons that you prefer to park your butt in one part of the region rather than another. If you have found a spot that strikes the right balance for you, then great. Just understand though that what is right for you isn't going to be what others are looking for.

LOL! I can totally see how one could misspell Fairfax by typing Falls Church. After all, they both have an "F" as the first letter! Your stupidity and anger amuse me.

No, it was more immutable facts that you are once again choking on. You don't have a fucking clue as to what "west county" means, for instance. All you racked up there was more dumbass-points.

> While Falcon's Nest is but one $1M+ home on the market

LOL! Falcon's Nest was lately the largest million-dollar property on the market in the City of Falls Church, yet that lot is smaller than ALL NINE of the million dollar homes that exist in a single block of a single street in what passes as Vienna's "poor side of town". That is because a new road and four new houses were stuffed into the side and back yards of historic Falcon's Nest in a give-away to local developers intent on leveling the Falls Church of old and squeezing more and more people into what has already become a dying and depressingly over-saturated city. Arlington, here we come.

Obviously. Any idea what auto-complete is? And were you seriously too dumb to have realized on your own that it should have been Fairfax City? That's really stupid. Something that would happen only in someone utterly lacking any credible intellectual capacity or function at all. Someone like you, I guess.

No, just when your incompetent and degraded fried-brains arguments leave you with exactly nothing but obvious typos to get all agitated over. Stupid worthless downscale dumbfuck douchebag.

Oh everyone knew what you intended to type, but are laughing at your continual case of spewing diarrhea all over yourself.

You do realize that smaller lots with a higher price tag means they are more desirable, correct? Maybe not to an idiot like you, but to anyone with half a brain cell.

Here, go ahead. You get the last word. Seeing you flounder around in your diarrhea stained bed has been entertaining enough for one day. Besides, I'm off for another long weekend. You'll be floundering about FFXU all weekend, of course.

LOL! I don't live in, work in, vote in, or have any relatives in or other sorts of allegiance to Vienna at all. It is merely one of the places that I often go to shop and dine, this because the Town offers so much more in terms of shopping and dining than other places in the area. Tonight though I'll be going beyond Tysons and into the District for dinner with a colleague. That 10% meals tax is no object to me!

Why stop there? East Coast, USA, Earth, Milky Way...all one big happy and homogenous family, right?

LOL! Others are not looking for what I have primarily because it is out of their price range. They'll need to go settle for something they can afford. But that has nothing to do with the dumbass lies that the worthless fucking goobers here are apt to tell on a continuing basis. They deserve to get their lowly asses reamed out for that.

Did somebody say diarrhea stained bed?

Well, get rid of that dirty old bed and come over to Vienna, where the streets are paved with mattresses, and you'll find a king's ransom of new bedding!

For the young, or just the young at heart, Vienna is the place to go for your sleepytime needs!

Like someone, anyone, no one, and nobody, everyone is always singular. "Everyone is" is correct. "Everyone are" is not.

And you are the only one here who is playing the ignorant dumbfuck card. That's your special gift. Getting your sorry ass whomped yet again on the facts leaves you no choice but to divert off into the weeds over some completely irrelevant typo. This is an entirely ineffectual tack, serving only to mark you as an even worse and more pathetic asshole than ever.

To investors and potential flippers who have interest in the land and what might be done with it as the curtain comes down on Falls Church as any sort of suburban SFH-based community.

So differnet from running away.

Ah, I see! Another gay outing to Killington for shushing down the slopes with former law school colleagues? Hahaha! That phony line of crap got blown all to bits quickly enough! What new sort of dipstick story will you be inventing out of whole cloth this time, you worthless low-grade have-nothing moron?

I know all you envy-and-butthurt types like to keep up with these sorts of things, so I'll note that we ended up at Jaleo (7th and E, NW) last night for a bunch of yummy small plates and a refreshing pitcher of white sangria. Particularly good were the fisherman's soup, the chorizo with mashed potatoes, and the ham and chicken croquettes. Yum! Individual plates run $10-15 and you're likely to do three or four per person. The grilled pork tenderloin with roasted apples was $32. I think that's the top end price-wise, but it wasn't really a standout item. Safe to skip. Anyway, very nice time, and Jaleo is a warm, cozy, friendly place -- perfect for a very chilly evening. Hope the rest of you were able to enjoy opening a can of Beefaroni.
