After two years, we have prevailed...
Posted by: VT_LOVE ()
Date: April 15, 2009 10:03PM

May we remember on April 16 what happened in 2007. Our thoughts go out to all Hokies and especially the families and loved ones of the 32. Please post special messages or encouragement, etc. We are all Hokies on April 16.

That being said, please refrain from negative and unnecessary commentary.

Thank You, and God Bless.

"We have prevailed"?
What did you expect us to do, fall down and give up?

"We are all Hokies on April 16." Why? Maybe pause to reflect for a moment, but I think that for most people this is just another day.

Does "prevailed" equal "sat and waited for two years and there was no repeat massacre"? I mean I was as sad for the victims as anyone else, but I don't know what action took to "prevail" either.

VT_LOVE maybe you can help us out here... at what point, or under what condition, did we all move from "not yet prevailed" to "Prevailed!" ?

Actually, I think they have prevailed. A tragedy like this could have taken many institutions to a desperate place both financially and reputationally. Enrollment, qualifications of students, quality of faculty, and so on, all easily could have dropped. Tech people deserve credit for handling this situation well, even if in hindsight we wish they had acted on the warning signs with Cho better than they did.

I am not a Tech alum nor do I have any affiliation with the school.

Nevertheless, I think it the most solid institution in the Commonwealth, producing thousands of good students, many of them in technical fields that add both utility and productivity to our economy, and at the same time it contributes greatly to maintaining a solid middle class - the fabric of any society. This is not a casual remark - I am impressed by the work ethic of its people, their concern for students, and frankly, think it a good thing that they have continued to prosper since one of the worst events ever to occur on a campus.

This is just my opinion. I think some people went overboard today with remembrance. People at work in Tech related clothing and not shutting up about it, Facebook statuses reminding everyone it happened, etc. Of course everyone should know what today is the anniversary of, but others are using this day as an excuse to be morbid. Maybe some people don't want to talk about it or be reminded. Common sense, people.

Why does VT get so much attention? people die every single day.

How many "2 year remembrances" do you see for my fellow Marines that were killed in Iraq or Afghan? When I start seeing those, I will start caring about others. I didnt hold anyones brains/guts/blood from VT but I did of my brethren.

It sucks about VT but fuck it, move on with life. Oh, and before all the bullshit, I am an alum.

Naw, if i had to guess, based on limited information, I'd say you were enrolled in the 10th grade (for the 3rd time)...

Now carry on. Or not.

we are not all hokies. i do not ever want to be a hokie. i hate slogans like this, we could think of any bad incident and make something of it. lets say there was a shooting at an exxon gas station. "today we are all exxon gas station customers". screw that

Why is that sad? The school has stated that they will not allow the carrying of weapons on school property. Well, by having that policy, the school must take on the role of protecting the students.

They failed and people lost thier lives. VT IS responsible for the killings and should be held accountable.

On the flip side, had they allowed students to protect THEMSELVES, well, I guess because the school fucked up, we will never know how that would have ended.

Fuck VT.

Da Plane, Da Plane, Welcome to fantasy Island. Imagine the "whoops my gun went off" and shot a student.

There is one person responsible for the VA Tech shooting and that is the crazy idiot with guns that shot up the classrooms!

In Europe a lot police forces don't even carry guns and there is less crime.

Gee, that's not doing much to help discourage the stereotype.
Muscles Are Required Intelligence Non Essential

You said you went there, so I'm going to assume that you know the level of drinking and irresponsibility that goes on down there (even if you were in the corps, you saw it in class). So you want to encourage everyone to be armed? A bunch of drunk, entitled, overprivileged, hormonal, emotional people with guns? Brilliant.

As for your other post about how there is no memorial for the marines who died with you, I guess Memorial Day doesn't count?

And based on your logic, we shouldn't have any memorial, or moment of silence, or a thousand f'ing news articles about 9/11 every time that rolls around should we?

You're really helping to reinforce why the members of the other armed forces think you are a joke.

Virginia Tech is full of jocks that think a 2.0 GPA in business administration will get them a six figure job.

Nothing but football captains and cheerleaders, fuck em.
