FAIRFAX SKATEPARK
Posted by: novaskater ()

I think I speak for just about all the extreme sports athletes in this county when I say we need a new skatepark. Preferably around Burke/Fairfax, the main place lacking a park. Sure there is Van dyck, but its a very small park and theres always little kids. No bikes allowed there either. We need a place for skaters and bikers to be able to go and not have to worry about getting kicked out. Just giving kids a place to go will help alot. Opinions on this? And what can we do to get a new park built around Burke?

Sounds good to me so long as the county doesn't have to pay for it. The liability and insurance for skatepark are crazy. Maybe a private company can build one. Charge about $25 for 4 hours.

You know there's a skate park in Wakefield Park at the Audrey Moore Rec Center. Not sure it's open to bikes, but is for boards and blades.

I think we need to cut the pork spending and demolish the park. It wastes valuable money on stupid kids.

Wakefield or "Audrey moore" was set up and is run by the county....its 4.50 to get in...the park sucks and the people that work there are assholes, plus thats the only decent park around. And to the person that suggested 25 bucks for 4 hours is INSANE, noone would ever pay that, ever. and to the person above me, fuck you

I think building more skateparks would be great for the kids. It's a great place for them to go to stay away from drugs, gangs, etc. which they normally get into when they're bored. County funded would be great, but private sponsership is a possibility too. A skatepark around my area (Burke) would be a great investment. I know many kids, including two of mine, have been bickering about having nowhere for them to skateboard. I'm fully behind the idea for a new skatepark.

Wow. I remember shredding it up at Cedar Crest back in 1988-1990 when I was in Jr. High. That place was the best for skate parties and bands, but it was a bit far for daily use. We normally used to skate around Woodson High and Rutherford pool -- many ramps and box rails around in those days. If adventurous, Crystal City underground and DC were prime spots.

Man, I miss that stuff.

Crystal City underground? I don't see any kids on skateboards walking around the CC underground, I guess they cracked down on that stuff between 1990 and now.

It's between Crystal Drive and Rt 1 (Jefferson Davis) in Crystal City. Starting at the Marriot, and extending to 23rd street

It is a strange place, with horrible little restaurants and shops.

I wouldn't try to skateboard down there either. Though I'm sure it would be fun.

Also home to one of the worst run McDonalds in the US
