Because it's hard to fake it when you're agitated and surprised by a reporter. It doesn't sound British or American. South African or Polish?

It sounded like neither of those. It sounded American. Probably a contractor, or maybe (less likely) a foreign volunteer. I'd wager PMC, given the quality of his gear.
