Looking for good movers. Craigslist or moving company?
Posted by: Earl Harper ()
Date: January 25, 2015 12:20AM

my family and I are moving next month from an apartment to a townhouse in Springfield. Should I use movers off craigslist or a real company? I've got some nice stuff but I'm not trying to pay to much either.

Go Craig's List dummy. Good luck filing a claim when they drag a dresser across your floor and your wife's jewelry turns up missing.lol

Twomarinesmoving.com.

They only hire former and future military, law enforcement, etc. They put it out there on their website. There is even a dress code for coming in for your job interview. You have to bring your discharge papers with you. I love discriminatory hiring practices.

They do a lot on line, the owner followed up with a questionnaire, etc.

Owner is a former Marine.

I have helped my kids move 4 times in the last couple years and I have had great results with the U haul services. You go on line to rent the truck (as far in advance as possible) and you can also rent dollies, blankets as well as movers. Just point and click on how many men for how many hours all priced up front. The guys I have gotten were nice as they could be and I was so happy with them that I gave them each a 20 dollar tip.

I'm not sure that is a legal hiring practice. If they are breaking the law I would question just how ethical they are in other areas. Just a thought.

That is the owner's problem. I like it.

sure foreigners will put your stuff ON their truck. but will it ever arrive and will you ever see them again ?

why not see if they are a legitimate VA registered business with no complaints filed ?

get a deposit for your stuff and pay fees after job is done. you'll need a appraiser. and no business gives deposits.

btw julio is stopping by home depot on way to deliver furniture

he's makign a copy of your house key so he can steal your stuff as soon as he knows your out of town

OH - is that why i'm getting more hang up phone calls recently ?

They did a beautiful job with our move. I would rather deal with a vet than a group from the 7/11 any day.

Or split the difference. We moved several times using a rental truck from UHaul and getting labor help through UHaul.com. Upfront pricing and since you control the truck, you control the move.

JK moving has a good reputation locally but we have not used them yet.

Two marines moving did a good job with our local move. Careful, polite and got it done faster and for less money than the estimate. We were very pleased.

Marines are definitely too dumb to disassemble and reassemble a crib.

Ex-mil does not equal quality. We tried that ish' back in 09' but came to find out they worked like drones and came with Diva like qualities. Bitching & moaning about work & why it wasn't ran like the mil on a daily basis. No thanks. Give me a struggling immigrant trying to make it 10 times out of 10. Muffackas work. Period.

JK's good but expensive. Like a lot of other services around here they're used to making big money serving government and business customers and their rates reflect that. We used them for company moves and related storage but too expensive for a local personal move when I got a quote. Don't recall the exact amount but it was one of those "Wow" kind of quotes. I'm sure that they'd do a good job if you want somebody to do it all turn-key for you and you're willing to pay for it. You can do it for a whole lot less if you're willing and able to do more yourself.

The best moving companies are people with good devices for their workers such as a fleet management and eld . You know.. don't mess with drivers who don't care about themselves and work extra hours for small income.. they can get crashed.

How do you hire someone based on what they are going to be "in the future"? I am going to be an orthopedic surgeon someday, so let me do that MCL surgery on you today.

Look at Yelp and Google user business reviews. Locally move the small stuff yourself and save the big heavy stuff for the movers. Good balance saving money and wear and tear on your body. Locally for movers recently found College Hunks to be good.

It seems to me that I can help you with this because two months ago we moved the whole family to a neighboring state and for this we found several moving tips and tricks that helped us with our arrival, that is, we found a reliable company, properly Packed clothes and boxes, and also secured equipment. All this is extremely important to take into account when moving because I had a bitter experience once. But now I know more thanks to an article I read recently about moving tips and tricks

I can say that if you are looking for a good moving company, I can help you. I know a pretty good movie company that works in New Zealand. Here is a link to their website https://www.wisemove.co.nz/car-part-delivery . There is a fairly extensive list of services, so I think this is a good option for you, try

If you are looking for carriers in Canada, I can recommend this resource. Very responsible guys. I recently needed to transport something as delicate as a piano. Piano movers transported it without problems, but intact and without scratches. Before that, they were engaged in the transportation of my things from apartment to house, so the second time I turned to them without hesitation)

Well I wouldn't use randoms off craigslist if you've got nice stuff. Why wouldn't you just pay movers if that's the case? If you're willing to spend decent money on your furniture, etc. I'd think you'd be willing to pay for movers that are insured professionals. You may be able to save some money through craigslist, but if they break something, then it's on you to foot the bill. If you use a mover, they have to compensate you if they damage anything. Just food for thought. FWIW I've used this company https://threemovers.com/virginia/ in the past and they were pretty affordable without any of the shady nonsense you hear so much about.
