Va Senate Bill SB 948 To Shut Zealot Maryland Cops Down
Posted by: Shame on Chap P. and Dave M ()

http://www.fredericksburg.com/news/va_md_dc/stuart-bill-limits-access-to-gun-permit-data/article_5f5d0e20-57e6-5de2-a04a-ae3a7c16950d.html

Maryland has license plate scanners like many other states. Va has been allowing Maryland access to the Va concealed firearm permit database. Zealot police in Maryland have scanned Va plates and others and pulled people over just because they have a CCW permit and begin a search for a gun in the vehicle even though there are none to be found. This bill which has passed the Va Senate by almost a 2/3 vote will stop Virginia from provideing Maryland police CCW permit information because of the abuses. Maryland "The Free State" does not recognize Va CCW permits, many states do and Va will provide the CCW information to those states that do.

In no way does any CCW information help a police officer making a traffic stop
"safer" as all police in this country now conduct traffic stops as though the occupants of a stopped vehicle are armed as standard procedure.

This bill now will be sent to the House of Delegates and is expected to pass.

It will be seen if Gov McAuliffe of Va. supports the people of Virginia and wants to protect them from abuse or will he follow the Democrat party line and support the State of Maryland to contine to abuse Virginians when the bill comes to his desk.

Shame on the Democrat Va Senate members who voted against this bill, against the people of the State they represent and voted instead to continue the abuse by the State of Maryland.

To my knowledge, CCW permits are public information, just like any other type of goverment issued license. All it would take is a FOIA request to get the info.

How big of an issue is this, anyway? It sounds a right-wing Republican/NRA-fueled solution looking for a problem.

>All it would take is a FOIA request to get the info.

Ya Maryland police could do that but thats not the problem. After three weeks they could get a FOIA but not on the side of the road.

The problem is Virginia providing Maryland the CCW info.after some Maryland cops plate reader read a Va license plate. Not after they pull someone over for wrong doing, just a license plate read from a scanner and they see the CCW info and they pull the person over on a wild goose gun search for a gun the person left at home back in Virginia.

Nothing in this bill allows anyone to carry a gun anywhere.

>It sounds a right-wing Republican/NRA-fueled solution looking for a problem.

No Its Abuse of Virginians by some anti gun Maryland police that are the problem. And being pulled over and searched for no reason is a big problem.

It would be the same as if someone had a Obama decal on their car and some cop that did not like Obama pulled them over and trashed their car looking for something and came up with nothing. That would be abuse.

Its Abuse of law abiding Virginians by some Maryland police and Va SB 948 will stop it. By the way three Va Senate Democrats voted for SB 948.

Actually it's a pretty big deal. And not just affecting Va residents passing through Md.

It's not just Maryland. New Jersey has been at it for years.
Time for lawsuits for civil rights violations.

Md cops aren't allowed to profile blacks, even though they commit 83% of all crimes, but they are encouraged to profile CHP holders who have to go through background checks to get those permits. Liberal insanity.

Although there have been some notorious, but limited, incidents in NJ on this issue, is there any data to support the concerns with MD's use of VA's data in this manner? The reason I ask is that scanning a plate for CHP is not probable cause for a Terry stop and would violate the Fourth Amendement. I imagine the case would be dismissed in court because of that element. Moreover, if the state repeated these action, you could make a nice civil rights case out of it. So, if the bill fails, a bunch of us with CHPs could circle the Beltway following all the rules until we got stopped and then take a collective case against MD to Federal court and make some dough! Thanks O'Malley!

Bill SR 948 refuses to provide CCW information to any state that does not recognize Virginias concealed firearms permit so New Jersy would not receive any CCW info as well.

As stated in this thread this bill does not effect officer safety, as all police treat each traffic stop as if the people in the car are possibly armed.

Don't forget if for some reason you are driving through maryland with your weapon, make sure it is stored in a locked container, unloaded and separate from the ammunition.

Keep in mind that you need to be traveling through the state, i.e VA to WV or PA or something, or going straight from home to a repair shop or shooting sports event inside of maryland or straight back home from said places.

You are a fucking moron. The VA CCW permit is only allowed in VA and the other states that have a reciprocity with VA. MD does not so MD does not need access to that information. I too was stopped by MSP for "speeding" in good ole PGC, and was inquired by the cop on the location of my pistol. I told him it was it was somewhere he will never find. He asked to search me. I said no. He called for back up. Three showed up. Now four asked to search me. I asked if they had a Terry case. They would not answer. After repeating their names out loud to memorize I was let go. Those fuckers followed me to the WW bridge. They got the one finger salute once over water.

My gun was locked up at home since I cannot carry in MD, and yes I am a former VA cop.

And the ammunition must also be in a locked container

And Not in The Drivers compartment.Locked up in the trunk of the car or camper shell or toolbox of a truck. No Camper shell or toolbox on a truck you better keep it at home. Or in the engine compartment.

Nothing In SB 948 allows concealed or open carry in Maryland or anywhere else, Its no sweat off anybodys ass in Richmond. It also is not a bill that will have any impact on the State Police or cost any extra money.

http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?151+oth+SB948F122+PDF Impact Statement

SO why did the 16 State Senate Democrats say NO to the rights of Virginians. NO to protect the people they swore a oath to support and defend. And YES
to allow the State of Maryland to continue to ABUSE Law Abiding Virginians? Even those WHOSE Firearms were left in Virginia??

YES THIS IS A BIG DEAL.

In "Ferguson Md" also known as The State of Maryland , police target law abiding Virginians who have concealed hand gun permits and left their guns in Virginia .

Now that is a "hate crime"

If Gov McAuliffe represents the law abiding citizens of Virgina, Or is he just a party line hack that will defend a few Bad Cops in Maryland, cops that pull Virgina citizens over with concealed firearm permits after reading a license plate scan and make a stop for speeding 56 in a 55 for the purpose of tossing their car looking for guns that were left back home in Virginia as you can not carry a concealed gun in Maryland with a Va permit.

This bill is not a "Gun Rights Bill" It is about protecting law abiding Virginia citizens against abuse.

It does not allow any one to carry a gun anywhere

It does not expand any gun rights. Nor does it pose any threat against any law officers. As they treat any traffic stop as if the persons are armed.

The word is he will veto this bill passed by 2/3rd of the Va House and a majority in the Va Senate.

The Gov does not realize it but this simple bill will define his legacy as Gov. Of Va. And not a veto of the other two.

There are two other gun bills that he may veto that do expand Gun Rights, one to allow felons who have had their gun rights restored in other states allowed to own guns in Va.

The other allows concealed firearms permit people to have a loaded rife or shotgun in their car despite hunting seasons.

McAullife vetoed the bill today. He stated the need for law officers to have the information. Totally Bogus. There were no concealed firearm alerts just a few years ago. And today see what a cop does when they approach your car if your stopped. They treat everyone today as if your armed. Need for Md police to know? Va law officers would still know if some one has a gun permit as well as other states that allow Va Concealed permits, just not Maryland, NJ, NY and the others that caused the problem . Too bad for that as they were the problem that created this bill.

Democrats in Fairfax made the totally stupid arguement that these other states would return Va's favor and not let Va have info on gun permits in these other states. Who Cares? What Cop in Va is not going to take a chance at all with any car with a MD, NY or NJ tag? It does not matter away as only a hand full of people in those states have concealed carry permits and they are law abiding citizens just like Va. And thats really what is so sick with this veto. They are not the threat! Where is any data base of crimonals who carry concealed guns?

This was not a gun lobby bill or even a gun rights bill, It expanded no gun rights to carry a gun , buy a gun, get a permit to carry a gun. Nothing Nada.

It was a Virginia Citizen's Human Rights bill and McAullife screwed them with his veto.

McAuliffe is a pityfull excuse of a Va Gov and he will be seen in history as such for throwing law abiding Va citizens under the bus when they dont have any guns with them traveling thru Maryland and are accosted by a few Bad Md cops. Yes in all due respect to Md police most Md police are decent people just the same as Va or elsewhere.

In April the State will meet to see what bills may be taken up for a override of McAuliffs vetos. This one needs to be on the list. It passed by 2/3 in the Va House and almost 2/3 in the Senate 24/16

Look at this bill as if guns were registered, and Virginians were allowed to own guns and Maryland outlawed them and law abiding Va Hunters and people who simply owned a gun kept at home were stopped by Md police for a search for guns left at home in Va. because only a license plate scan said they owned a gun.

This is why any ALPR technology should be strictly regulated for any LE. Obviously, street cops shouldn't be allowed to have ALPR cameras on thier vehicles. All it's meant for is to infringe on the rights of us citizens.

the rights and privelages (human rights ammendments USA constitution) of citizens in one state shall be the same in all states

this means (and it is intently vague) while states may alter law they cannot alter human rights

obviously if a thing is legal and a right in one state and one cannot be pulled over as a suspect felon in another (firearm charges are criminal and felon)

why is because from hero to criminal felon is more than a difference of freedom (ie, prison time is not freedom)

MD doesn't recognice permits. of course they want to steal the weapons and court the victims of theft - and accuse the victims while billing obama money for the trials. meanwhile they are allow illegals to arm in MD in VA i know that for a fact.

my USA gun policiy is never register a weapon with government workers

they will just abuse the "point of authority" to the maximum

they are aout of control and decide their own pay and write laws without reguard to legality: OR LENGTH. it's called "scotts law" which is usually an insult.
