When did High School athletes stop wearing letter jackets?

I think its about the same time teachers told the students to not place their hands over their hearts when our national anthem is played

...and little fags that never earned a varsity letter jacket. Back in the day you worked your ass off to wear a Varsity letter on your jacket.

Great question. I was just mentioning this to my children that attend Woodson. I agree. Bring back the letters.

Most teachers encourage their students to think like they do, They are not teachers. These people know what they are doing to America.

Maybe if they updated the letter jackets for more meaningful pursuits like social justice, transgender equality, and fighting income inequality. For our nuevos students we can have a Dreamer jacket.

Letter jackets represent competition. libs hate competition and are doing their best to eliminate it from our country. Competition is what makes America great, libs hate it.
Soon, they will no longer keep score at athletic events.

+1. Best suggestion yet. Instead of jackets though maybe they should wear
hoodies.

The people who are all rah-rah over competition are a bunch of life's sorriest losers. Apparently they are too stupid to realize that many schools still do have varsity sports and that they still do award varsity letters. People simply choose not to wear them anymore. Don't see many National Merit Finalists gloating down the hallways either these days.

There were two versions of my highschool's letter. The sports people had their letters a certain color and the non-sports people had their letters colors in the reverse of the sports people.

They still wear them, and they give them out for academic performance now too. My nephew just got one for that.

And, there's your answer. Everyone gets a varsity esque letter, even the Thespians, the flag corps, academic performance. Everyone gets a trophy in Fairfax County house sports, too. Drives me insane.

They should only have them for varsity athletes. It might be the last time they can walk around acting like they have status. This is important. They need this.

Is it only Nova kids, or is it a nationwide trend?

Athletes stopped wearing them when band geeks and rifle kids started wearing them.

I would assume it's the kids on the actual shooting rifle team or the fat chicks on the dance team that twirl a fake rifle like a baton.

Band kids earned their letters. Football and the High School band is like peas and carrots.
