FiOS in FFXCO

Tell me again why it's better than Cox.

I just got it the other day and it seems okay but my computer isn't any faster than it was. TV is about the same, I don't have that HD shit. The internet service has some annoying Verizon pop-ups trying to sell extra shit. Obviously the phone isn't any different.

I hope it's more dependable than Cox...that's why I got FiOS...Cox went down right in the middle of my fucking Form 1040 and PISSED me off.

One thing a read that isn't true....Verizon does not remove your copper phone lines. I kind of hoped they would...for a cleaner look on the side of my house (I had 2 copper phone lines), now I got 3 wires hanging from the same hook.

I'd like to get rid of the Cox line, I wonder if they charge to remove it or I should just shinny up the pole with a pair of dikes (wirecutters, not gay ladies!).

Oh well, at least it's cheaper....by about 60 a month.

I mad the switch from cox to verizon too. No major difference, but I do think it's more dependable than Cox. Verizon took my copper lines too!

We've got FIOS for tv, phone, and internet now:

1. TV: The HD picture is AMAZING, and even the non-HD channels are better than the equivalent on Cox.

2. Phone: It works.

3. Net: MUCH faster. I'm paying for 20/5, and it rocks.

Can you post what you got doing this speed test:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

We have the regular Verizon dsl and are thinking of getting it.

Fios was slow in getting in the county (VA Run). Cox had already laid down high speed infrastructure.

Tears.

Why change if you have sat TV and Cox?

Makes no sense.

I send the walk-up souls away bout every six weeks.

Cox has no high speed infrastructure. They simply use fiber to hit your neighborhood then go coax from there to your street and house.

well heres my guess... your computer is still slow because it had spyware and adware out the ass on it, and TV will look the same basically because you dont have HD, and Im also guessing you're using a special Verizon web browser that was installed on your computer from Verizon. I would suggest you download CC cleaner + spyware buster + an antivirus program to make ur computer un-shitty. Then i suggest you download firefox, and maybe get an HD tv... problems solved.
P.S. - good sentence structure is for queers.

Firefox with the adblock plugin. No fucking ads, anywhere... Its so much better. Noscript to go along with it to remove 90% of the rest of the bullshit, if you're computer savvy.

Also your phone is different, but its behind the scenes. I'm not going to get into the boring technical shit but its much less likely to work in a power failure or during heavy network use (mothers day, 9/11 #2, etc) and will go down any time your FIOS goes down, plus random bonus outages. Hope you have a cellphone too.

I have cox regular internet...and here's what I got:

23,334 kbps down 3,635kbps up

Cox HD blows though. It's constantly pixilating and freezing up. Some channels, like A&E, do it *Constantly*. It's very frustrating.

I'll go FIOS when it comes to my area. Cox has been out to my house twice to try to fix it. Nothing changed.

Wow, that's way faster. I don't know what Cox did here, but websites load as fast or a little faster than with Cox....and video plays well. I probably have all the bad shit...spyware, adware, etc that somebody mentioned. But, I'm too dumb to do anything about it. Every time I try fucking with it, I either make it worse or it craps out altogether. Maybe I'll grab the 12 year old next door and have him fix it for me.

I basically just screw around on the web....so if FiOS works as good as Cox (for me), is more dependable, and costs less, I'll be happy.

About the phone, yeah, it's supposed to work for 8 hours on the battery back-up. And the old copper land-line used to jam up on Mothers' Day, etc. too, so what's the difference? Shit, I wouldn't even have a landline phone if it wasn't for my old lady.

actually now that I think about it, it IS provided by Verizon, the actual phone company, so I figure they'd know how to keep it reliable.

I also don't really know anyone under 40 that has a landline anymore unless they need it for faxing.

Did you have to sign a contract with Verizon for FIOS?

Damn, we get 2872 kbps down and 732 kbps up using Verizon DSL, looks like we'll be upgrading

Well,we are way over 40. We do have cells but use them so infrequently that the fucking batteries are always dead.

I think I had to sign up for 2 years to get the $99 amonth deal (I didn't read the fine print). They are supposed to send a $150 gift card after 31 days.

The only thing that I'll have to get used to is the TV channels...on Cox, the shit I watch was all in a tight group...on FiOS, my channels are all over the place.

I got fios (all 3 services), it's ok, but the messages from the phone don't come to the answering machine on the phone, but to a voicemail account similar to a cell phone. So, you have to check it often because it doesn't tell you when you get a message.

Depends on the phone...I have one with a flashing 'message waiting' light and even without that you get a different dial tone if there are unheard messages. Really not that big of a deal. We still have an answering machine and the only time it goes to voicemail is if we are on the phone and ignore the call waiting tone.

You should hear a "staggered dialtone" when you pick up if you have a new message waiting. If you don't hear this, then you should call in a trouble ticket.
