Interesting, as I read comments all I see is SEC is overrated, but I feel you guys missed the obvious, TCU got hosed by an undeserving OSU team to sell tickets. Try to stay focus people. The SEC wasn't the best conference this yr, they graduated 5 sr QBs, most of them to the NFL, Ol piss and Miss St did however do amazing things this yr, so give them just a lil credit.



I don't put to much money on bowl games, they don't mean a whole lot, there is no continuity between the season and game played 3 weeks later. TCU had a huge chip on their shoulder and OL miss had nothing to play for/prove. Didn't Miss St coaching staff get ravaged by trades, I'm not making excuses but pointing out the continuity aspect.



IMO opinion the ACC/PAC12 were tied for best conferences, the big 12 overall was very bad, but they did have two outstanding teams, the SEC was down for the first time in a long time, mostly due to the QB situation. Don't worry SEC will be back at it. And well the big 10 is as bad as always, the sucked all season long, there knight in shining armor will get embarrassed by Al, and the rest is history.

Lulz, I went to a better school than VT and had to pay for it myself. I know college is a business and they love how their alumni pay 10s of thousands of dollars to go there, then, for some reason, praise them for the rest of their lives calling it "school spirit" when these colleges have no loyalty to them, but continue to ask for donations every year. Fucking losers with no lives because college was the best time of their lives.

Virginia Tech is a good academic value; one of the very few remaining. I find it difficult to make harsh judgments about the school given this fact.

College football and college sports in general are completely over the top and distort the academic mission of schools. I say this as a former recipient of an athletic scholarship and a NCAA All American.

I look back on my athletic days and all that was really accomplished was delaying my adolescence and a start on a professional career and intellectual development, in other words, largely a waste of time and energy. Because alumni (and with big state flagship schools) mostly identify with the school through sports (particularly football and basketball), it is unrealistic to expect things to change.

The SEC on a year by year basis will have the best football teams. The schools are in the South, and the sport at the youth level in the south is huge, particularly in the African American community. The best athletes play football. And because in youth football the best athletes play skill positions and are fast, well, some of them become lineman, who at the college level are as big as the rest but also are quicker. Thus, the SEC dominates. Heck LSU puts a near NFL defense on the field every year. Again, I am not sure any of this will change.

Virginia Tech is no different in terms of major sports than most other Division 1 schools. Any unique criticism of the school is inapposite.
And don't forget UVa. They have the highest paid employee in the Commonwealth as a head football coach, and he continues to be paid even though winning only about 3 of 10 games. Football is so distorting.

Not happening. Tech is more concerned with upgrading academics and getting into the AAU. Entering the SEC, which has maybe two members of the AAU, including Vandy, would not help.

Three actually. Florida, Missouri, and Vandy. But sports conferences have nothing to do with the AAU.

A&M is in the AAU. It seemed to matter to Big10 members in selecting Maryland and Rutgers. Nebraska wouldn't have been invited after getting booted from the AAU.
