Why are Fairfax County School Closing 2hrs Early on Friday the 19th?

It's like the schools are now a joke. Do teachers and administrators even do any work these days?

Last year I heard stories that the last three weeks of school in Fairfax County are waste because teachers use those days to do last minute grading. That teachers just show movies the last two weeks because teachers don't want to have to do paperwork?

WTF are these counties teachers getting paid for.

We started watching movies in 2 classes on Monday. I'll bet even more tomorrow and Friday.

I'm glad we get out 2 hours early. Start the 2 week vacation right.

Last three days... Not weeks...

Yeah, not sure where OP goes, but it was the last 2 days at Mt. Vernon last year that they did grading, not the last 3 weeks.

We are letting your "misplaced cumshots" out early on Friday so we can start our vacation early also. Deal with it.

Why not just give student the whole month of December off? Or for that matter all of January off.

It was explained to me that these little things like 2 hour early dismissals are designed to help quell the uproar over no raises the past several years and none in the future. Wow , didn't know folks with college degrees could be tricked and bought off that easily. And to the poster that says teaching is minimal this week( aka bring in your favorite movie), you can add the week before Thanksgiving, Spring break, and most of the time after Memorial day. This 2 hour early dismissal on Friday will allow those school employees travelling to Budapest to be with family , to get an earlier start.

I've been driving a school bus for the county since my retirement. All school buses must be secured for the two week break. Bus lots at Newington and Shrine Rd close at 6 or 7.

This has nothing to do with teachers.

2 hours early still allows for Friday or any day to count as a full day.

2 hours late or 2 hours early release counts as a full day probably for both the kids and staff?

Where is this Shrine Rd bus lot you speak of?

> So the last bus runs on Friday would be for Elementary schools which would dismiss at 1 or !:30. So Im guessing all the kiddies would be dropped off at the latest by 3:30 or 4?. So that only gives you 2 or 3 hours to drive to Newington garage?. Wow you must drive really slow. Good luck with that great retirement job you got.

I love how you all think you know what teachers do .... You should try it . Most people would not last a week imagine your child at home having to do something they do not want and multiply that by 30 kids for seven hours a day.

A lot of people have jobs that are hard, especially folks in the military, police and fire departments, They just don't whine constantly about pay and working conditions. They just get their jobs done. An extra 2 hours off for your coveted 2 week winter break ?, they would just laugh and be thankful to get Christmas Day off. I don't know everything teachers do, but I do know they complain and threaten a lot.

Maybe they are all making appointments for massages.
