I do not know if the number is in fact accurate, but there are a NUMBER, rather large NUMBER of homeless/parentless border kids from Mexico or other Central American countries that have made their was to FCPS. The kids have been distributed across many districts and have been placed with "host" families.

I do know there is a need for support for these kids as they do not have anything.

14 Million dollars to educate orphan kids......paid by Fairfax residents through taxes

If an orphan immigrant illegal has a blood relative living in Fairfax, they were sent to live with those people. Tax papers pay for clothing, school supplies, medical/ Dr vouchers, eye glass vouchers, etc.

Kids are living in shelters, residential facilities, and local motels

These kids are in almost every school with the exception of TJ. It is somewhat below the radar but if you have the pulse of your local school(s) chances are you will be aware that there may be Border Kids are your local school.

Will be interesting to see if these kids somehow alter the stats of test scores and so forth at some of the schools.

Just what FCPS needs along with the shift to late start next year. I have no problem about helping out, but when and where will all the money be coming from.

We all pick up a share of the costs to educate all the kids in the county, no matter how they got here. I don't have any kids in FCPS at all, and I still pay many thousands of dollars in real estate taxes every year. That's my share.

These kids have moved into local households with household approval. Same way babies get here. We all end up paying for them as well.

It's unfortunate that we have such a large sewer-grade corps of selfish ignorant racist assholes in this county.

BUT here is the issue, FCPS has a 2.3 Billion dollar budget. This is 5% of the size of entire state of VA's budget!! This is just for a single school district in the state.

I pay taxes, I have kids in school here, but I have to think there is PENTLY of places for improvement in the FCPS budget, but at the same time the total infrastructure is again and in dire need of replacement.

There is some major disconnect with how FCPS has been run over the years. My kids go to a school that is 50 years old with 50 year old bathrooms, I do not know ANYONE that lives in a house with 50 year old bathrooms and has not had a major renovation.

Tysons Corner is current the 12 largest business District in the country and is likely moving toward the 10th, where/what are these businesses contributing to the county other than traffic.

Where and when will the money show up? What happens if it doesn't?

Two ways to solve the problem, throw more money in the fire or quench the flames.

A few smart folks could sit down and make some major adjustments and clearly make things much better for FCPS, the students and the tax payers.

Send Peggy Fox to Lynbrook. They have at least 18 orphans.

What sort of off-the-wall metric is that? Funding for FCPS should be tied to what's necessary here, not to whatever is happening in freaking Danville or some other god-forsaken location. The prosperity of Fairfax County has been built and is anchored on the quality of our pubic schools. Without high marks there, the sorts of people and businesses that have driven and supported our economy will no longer be as interested in coming here or remaining here. The county transfer to FCPS is currently just above 50%. It should be closer to 60%. Pay now or pay much more later. This is the sort of decision that dummies frequently botch completely.

The disconnect is between you and reality. Do some research. There is a regular process of school expansion and renovation that is always ongoing. The county grows and its people move around. Do you think this sort of thing escapes the notice of FCPS? Do you think that they are not planning decades in advance for these very things?

Are you unaware of business property taxes? The rate is $1.215 per $100 of assessed value. Did you think you were the only one paying such things? Then we could talk about sales and use taxes, BPOL fees and taxes, and we ought to be able to talk about meals taxes, but for no coherent reason at all, the bird-brained magpies don't seem to like those very much.

Sounds like what we really need is a Meals Tax.
