Lake Braddock laying an egg like usual. SOCO not looking particularly great either. Maybe rumors about the demise of the Concorde are a bit premature....

Should be a great game. South county hs better bring more stands in. Seating for away teams suck. Thought Robinson might pull it out but play action doesn't work in the last minute. Qb takes back to back sacks on last two plays of the game.

Can't believe I'm saying this but Westfield will be representing the Northern Region in the State Final.

If Robinson's defense could hold the SoCo offense to two TDs, then I think Westfield is going to dominate the Stallions.

I understand a normal game week when their are 50 plus games being played across the Region that the Talent pool for referees is a little slim, however if the Vhsl is Going to Run the same Garbage out for a state qtr final or Semi final game, some one needs to be fired. Horrendous officiating Vhsl should be ashamed!

Wow... just amazing... soco is just soo lucky and overrated that they lucked themselves to 13 straight wins. Unheard of! They even managed to win by accident against 7 teams that made the playoffs, a 9 win team with 'smothering o and d lines who will control the clock with their crushing run game', an 11 win team that has 5 million d1 players, and, oh yeah, a 12 win team lost to them too. Must be the worst 13-0 team in history! It's crazy how formidable all the other teams are that still end up losing the game.. surely nothing we can give soco any credit for..

LB was outcoached for certain. Did not even attempt to roll a safety over to help on the old WR. If he was WR all year, WF could have put up 40 every game. With a good QB, he is very tough to stop.

Horrible offense from LB.....short out, medium-in right in front of safety...wow.

Hats off to WF...well executed plan...very few mistakes.

It's a shame that Robinson gets no respect. They are a very good football team that lost to another very good team.

It was a very good game that really could of went either way. In the end SoCo did what they needed to to get the job done, Being a SoCo fan, I'm pleased they did.

Look out for Robo next year since they are a fairly young team that is very well coached.

Robinson is about as old a team as you see in High school these days!

They have about 3 or 4 underclassman who contribute...

JV sucked as well.

This is as close as they get until this year's freshman become seniors!

Last year's JV team was undefeated. They have the Sophmore secondary guys coming back. 33 is back, 22 will be a RB, 20 will be a RB and Sophmore 21 will be a RB. RT will be a senior. Several guys were rotating in. Staff is solid now and another year with Neff as D coordinator.

Robinson started 11 seniors, 8 juniors, and 3 sophomores in the playoff game. They will return 6 starters on defense and 5 on offense. That's not an old man football team by any measure. It appears to me that they've got things moving in the right direction now after several years of average results. Kids love the staff and the program.

Robinson old, really? I don't think so - 2 all conference LBs (1 1st team #44 & 1 2nd team #51) plus an 1st team all conference OL #71 are all 3 Juniors. QB is coming back. In truth they are losing about 4 key players on both sides of the ball but have some good talent in the JR and soph classes that will fill those holes nicely.

So, anyone that says Robinson is old, doesn't have a clue...

Well, Robinson hung in there and nearly pulled off the upset. SoCo defense gave up a lot of yardage - but almost all on the ground - not Westfield's forte.

Did not see Westfield putting in that performance - without question their most complete game of the season on both sides of the ball. #17 did a nice job at QB and #10 at WR was a dominant force - offensive coaching finally made some major changes that were sorely needed. Hat tip to coaches - they are usually too conservative to make a change like that.

Lake Braddock the only team I had not seen this year but I have to admit I was expecting a lot more from their offense from what I had heard all year. Their defense was not bad - they did keep Westfield from capitalizing on a lot of their great field position - it certainly could have been and probably should have been an even more lopsided score.

So off to the regional finals. Gotta like the way Westfield is coming into this game but SoCo will be ready for them. I haven't been doing very good on my predictions so I will pass for the moment. Westfield's defense has 10 interceptions in their first 3 playoff games and they are even harder to run on. So how will SoCo attack them and what would be your strategy? SoCo WR #9 had a monster game against Westfield in the regular season matchup. More of the same?

Congratulations to both teams for representing the Northern Region...from what I have seen, this game is Even...smart play, limited turn overs and limited penalties win this Game. Soco's successes have come when they are able to extend the play and catch the defenses breaking discipline, #9 was an unknown commodity week 2, great numbers however he is no longer a surprise if Westfield does not press him with their best cover corner with safety help over top, they deserve the burn they will surely get. Count on Soco being as unorthodox as they have been all year, every kick should be treated as on-side/fake...no play is over until whistle blows I.e. Double passes, reverse pass, option...Westfield defense must stay disciplined, man-press #9, put a spy on QB and swarm the ball, Db's cannot break coverage until ball has crossed line of scrimmage..offensively max protect, stretch Soco defense with tall wide-out, find lanes and establish a running game, win special teams battle... If Westfield Coaches let their Athletes compete (play calling) they go South...if Soco wins the turn over/penalty battle they head south...Should be a Great game

Robinson's JV team this year went 2-5-1 and lost by more than 20 points to Broad Run, Stone Bridge, and Centreville. Westfield shut them out. Going to be a tough year next year for that dirty ass program!

Maybe the Concorde coaches knew what he was capable of at WR. I think you can make the arguement that Chantilly's QB was the best quarterback, but Scanlon is the most dynamic and important offensive player in the conference.

There are only two ways to end your season with a win --

- Win the Championship
- Don't make the playoffs, but play a creampuff for your last regular season game.

Looks like Langley opted for the latter approach.

How so? I looked at Langley's representatives on the All Conference Six team, and it looks like you are losing 4/5 of your offensive linemen. Is that right?

What was Langley's JV record this year?

Could you post or link the All-Confernce six team? I'd like to see how SL did this year. SL will lose some key contributors such as Kirlew & Grunshie but those are the kind of speed guys that SL consistenly produces. The qb is only a sophmore so he'll be around awhile and Kroll will be back to anchor the line so I think SL is likely to contend again next year.

Langley had a so-so JV team and a 2 win freshman team so combined with losing their senior qb and winning only 3 games this year they are likely to be outside looking in for awhile. Madison had good JV and freshmen teams this year but will lose a lot of senior varsity starters including the qb so they should be good but probably won't go 9-1 again.

I had to look at a couple of places. Inside NOVA.com has a high school sports website. In their Arlington Section, they posted all conference players for W-L and Yorktown. In their Fairfax section, the posted all conference for Langley, McLean and Madison. I guess they don't cover western, central, or southern Fairfax County. Fairfax's football twitter page tweeted the all-conference selections for Fairfax. That means I haven't yet seen South Lakes or Hayfield. Believe me, I've looked.

It's way too early to predict for next year (a lot can happen in the offseason), but I'd have to think, right now, Madison should be the favorite again next year, despite the losses that you mention. I'd have McLean in last place, because their JV team was virtually non-existent, which tells me they really lack depth, but their freshman team had a respectable season. Places 2-7 are anyone's guess.

For this year, if I had to identify the biggest surprise team in Conference 6, it would be your South Lakes team. No one expected them to finish as high as they did. Madison's success was more expected. The two biggest disappointments would have to be Langley and Fairfax.

South County FOOTBALL has been building for this MOMENT for a long time. There is NO WAY they lose this game. It will be a BLOWOUT. Remember what Chad WIGGINS and Tyler LOVE did to Westfield the last couple of years??? That is what Kevin Allen will do to Westfield on SATURDAY!!! Look out because LORTON is headed to CHARLOTTESVILLE!!!!!! Peace OUT.

The 2008 division 5A Regional Final is incorrect. Stone Bridge beat Edison 35-6. Edison was in the region finals 5 years in a row under the great coaching of Vaughn Lewis. I've tried to get the regional program corrected but have been unable.

Westfield (-7.0) @ South County
*Told you all not to sleep on Westfield or the Concorde for that matter! Robinson gave SOCO everything they could handle and Westfield will be too much to handle. Scanlon should have never left the receiver position, It's best for the team to keep him there and that's a boost to the offense to go along with the stellar defense.

Stone Bridge @ Tuscarora (-7.0)

I hardly think moving Scanlon out to WR, running double tight, max protecting, and throwing up fades means SoCo can't handle Westfield's offense. Are they more dynamic? Certainly. But to say that moving one player makes the difference and clearly puts Westfield over the top is a little pre-mature. LB decided the best way to defend Scanlon was to play off man coverage with short stack Mansaray over the top. And Mansaray wasn't even playing true bracket coverage, he stayed MOF and was late coming over to help the whole game. I doubt SoCo will make the same mistake and let Scanlon have a free release off the LOS.

I do like the spread though, expecting a close game that's going to come down to the final quarter!

Allen Pulls his Lame Hamstring early, I really wish he was 100% healthy so there would be no excuses...we shall see.

Scanlon is not Westfield only option, Giving Help over the Top leaves 6-5" Johnson, 6-5" Eckert, 6-3" frimpong and 6-3" Cockrill in single Coverage. with no help..

Allen has coverage responsibility in the spread, and when they are double tight, he's getting doubled.

I hope he has a good Game, I hope he has his best game of the year then John Carrol will finally offer him the London Fletcher Linebacker Scholarship.

South County is expected to win, therefore they have everything to LOSE....

True, Scanlon is not the only option for Westfield but if we're going to go with just their size as the reason then they should have dominated Robinson when they played. But they didn't, they won by a field goal and were a few calls/plays away from loosing that one too.

IMO the play calling is atrocious and makes poor use of the athletes at their disposal. With that amount of size and athleticism across the board they're offense should be averaging 35-40 points a game.

Any one at that game Robinson/Westfield, not taking anything away from Robinson whom I believe was the 3rd best team in the Region, could see the atrociousness of the play calling. Westfield passed the ball easily between the 30's then wanted to be a running team inside the 20's which resulted in turnovers and turnovers on downs repeatedly. Westfield left 14 points on the field as a result of play calling and 17 more from fumble as running back was going in to score and dropped TD Pass and missed field goal. They will need to execute and call plays as good if not better than last week. That Staff has been good at losing the Big game TOO Long, this week it ends.

While I understand your point there is no way #11 and #82 are 6’5” - they would be 6’2” or 6’3” at best. I think they are listed as 6’3”.

Westfield has been a defense-first team all year, which has gotten them through some tough offensive games. They'll have to shut down a Soco team that put up 4 TDs against them the first time around (and that was with a healthy Clancy) and hope that the offense scores enough to win. Was the offensive production in the WF-LB game the new norm, or was it an aberration? Impossible to tell, but the Rehmon to Scanlon connection opened up a running game that has been sporadic all year. Soco will know that's coming and will be prepared for it. Can Rehmon look of his first option and check down? We'll see. I think the focus here should be whether WF can stop a multi-faceted Soco offense that can come at you from many directions.

Good analysis BUT I believe that SC struggles in pass coverage which had been constantly proven i.e. First rd Annandale and LB. If we keep them honest with a little run game we should move the ball easily up the field, there's just too many athletes on this side and we can take 55 out of the game if we force him to cover. See you guys in Charlottesville #dogpound

The difference in the first game between these teams was SOCO ran 71 offensive plays, WF had 43. With the compliment of R. Johnson, H Johnson, and Frimpong, all 3 did not play the first go round, WF has quite a few more weapons on O. If they can sustain drives and keep their D fresh that will go a long way in WF's success. In that first meeting the up-tempo of SOCO's offense definitely wore down WF's D, remember the Bulldogs lead at half, if ever so slightly at 13-12.

Not having Clancy definitely is a big loss but WF's D has stepped it up in his absence. Aiello and Petrillo have particularly raised their game making up for the loss of their injured leader. As a matter of fact, it seems that the entire D is playing better as of late. Also, don't forget in the first game the long TD pass that SOCO got was on a blown coverage. No excuse but the DB that was burned was starting his first game in place of a suspended player. If anyone knows WF's D coordinator they know that his units almost always are well prepared, don't think we'll see any breakdowns tomorrow.

No doubt, SOCO is the most explosive offense in 6A North, maybe in all of the 4 teams remaining in 6A for that matter. They will not be shut down, just don't think that's even doable, they've got just too many quality athletes. WF too has many quality athletes, this time on the offensive side as well. But as the original poster's name states, defense wins games, I don't think there's a doubt that the advantage on D goes to WF.

Should be a great game either way!

This game may reveal whether putting Scanlon back at WR worked just because it was a change or whether Johnson really should have been playing QB all year. I don't think the WR trio of Johnson-Johnson-Frimpong has played all that great this season. James and Eckhert were just as good after they had a few games under their belt.

SOCO cant guard any combo of wideouts we put out there hell in the first game we got a few deep balls on them and they constantly left Clancy open at the TE spot

South County simply has too many PLAYMAKERS for Westfield defense to handle. All this talk about suspended players - ONE mediocre starter on defense did not play in the first game. Now they don’t have CLANCY. Westfield offense better be ready to put at least 35 POINTS to win this game. NOT gonna happen.

Not sure how you can make this statement with a straight face. Robinson's defense help South County and their offensive play makers to two scores and if not for a pick 6 by Kofi Bell the game would have been won by Robinson. Robinson's defense held South County and their vaunted offense to under 200 total yards!

Robinson's one dimensional offense ran for almost 300 yards on this supposedly brilliant defense. If it weren't for the terrible offensive play calling inside the red zone by Robinson's coach, SoCo would be sitting at home this weekend.

Not that Westfield needs any help, but Robinson gave them the blueprint on how to stop this high powered offense and unlike Robinson, Westfield won't be one dimensional on offense.

I'm normally a Westfield hater, but I'll swallow my pride and root for them this one weekend to put an end to the over hyped South County Stallions.

I predict a 27 - 20 victory by Westfield.

Might be a blueprint, but they still have to stop it. I'm sure SC hasn't made any adjustments for the Westfield game, and are going to come in looking that same. Stop generalizing, and get some facts!! SC's offense will be ready to go, and they got a pretty good blueprint on how to school against Westfield week two.

Also, they had 250 yards of offense against Robinson!

What's WF done that makes them so dynamic this year? Explain to me why people seem to thing SC won't be prepared, and WF won't see the same team, only better, than the team they lost to week two?

SC is as dynamic as it gets as this years in the state, and they've worked hard and beat some pretty solid teams throughout the year. Robinson, played everyone they met this year tough, so how is it such a surprise they did it to SC? Robinson also has one of the best, if not the best DC in the state, so still not sure why it's so shocking.

Getting to this point undefeated, beating a team with a ton of momentum, and a pretty solid win streak in the region semifinal game is no joke. Maybe they took the wind out of LB's sails in week ten in order to WF to coming in a beat them up...

I get WF has tradition, but there is a pretty solid tradition of winning going on at SC, and everyone will get a chance to see this Saturday afternoon, in what should be an amazing game. Both teams are deserving, but only one is undefeated, so let the games begin!!

It wasn't a shock to anybody that has seen Robinson play but it was a surprise to the blowhards that think South County is the greatest offensive team that's ever played.

Why the hype is correct, in that SoCo seems to be not getting the appreciation they deserve, especially since they already beat wf once. Westfield Booster, your points are well taken, and the return of the suspended starters will bring a different dimension to WF that wasn't present in the first meeting. They should do better offensively.

The point I was trying to make was that this game will still come down to WF's ability to slow down the Stallions. It can be done (see Robinson), but Petrillo doesn't have Clancy next to him this time. I'm not taking anything away from your comments about Aillo (sp?) or Petrillo (I saw the nice write up on him in the Post and know of him from lacrosse), but with Clancy next to him, SoCo still scored 4 tds. Yes, the wf defense has grown and is exceptionally schemed. However, SoCo has also matured.

In order to win, wf will have to control the ball better than the first go 'round, but really, wf defense will have to hold SoCo to under 20. I don't think that will happen. Too many playmakers, too many offensive sets from which they attack. Defense wins, but WF's vaunted defense will fall short. Final score, 21-14 SoCo.

Either way, should be a great game. Good luck.

In fact I scored 2 TD's on Soco! Had 20 tackles! But wait a minute, I'm not playing. They scored 4 TD's and I had 20 tackles. Who's going to stop them? Hopefully our awesome offense can put up some points without me.

----------------------------------------------------------

Cute, but if you were the real Jack Clancy you'd know he only scored 1 TD against SOCO. But I think you're pretty close in the amount of tackles he had!

Good luck.

----------------------------------------------------

You make some very good points, and in my opinion, the weakness of WF's D tomorrow will be against the inside run game.

I would be surprised if WF scores only 14 but again, as you stated, there might just be too many playmakers on SOCO's offense to stop let alone slow down.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow, should be a great day for hopefully a great game.

inside Run is placing a lot on a Back-up Center...Leo is A lot to move unless the middle triple teams leaving a few Helmets un blocked... the threat is in the yet to be seen, Both teams will have a few Aces up their Sleeve. Who executes best Wins!

You heard it hear first.

The back up Center for SoCo will spend his day diving through the knees of Leo. Taking a page right out of Robinson's playbook and driving the DC from Westfield crazy! Better bring some ice Leo!

Uhm its Here not hear....homophones.... look it up
The Starter wasn't much cant imagine a back-up being better? and as long as another Linemen is touching Leo while your All-Star is Diving at the knees, Leo will take the accompanying 15 yard penalty all day...see He's a team Player with or with out Ice.

Take Stone Bridge. 42-38. The Tusky magic runs out. They won 5 games this year with last possession scores.

I have to agree - I think Stone Bridge can win this one.

However, Tuscarora QB is a special kid, a winner. If they have the ball last and need to score, he will find a way to get it done.

Should be as exciting, if not more than Westfield/South County.

South County opening in 2005 was built on the exact same model as Westfield which opened in 2000. Westfield had an addition to the original structure which accounts for the one small difference.

Westfield's first principal - Dale Rumberger was also South County's first principal. Rumberger was also the interim principal early this school year at Westfield after the departure of Principal Thomas.

Westfield was originally dubbed West County high school until the Westfield name was officially selected. This could have been West County vs. South County...

Wow, Stone Bridge just pounded Tuscarora 54-41, didn't see that coming. The Bulldogs offense pushed Tuscarora around for most of the night. Tuscarora also blew a few red zone opportunities.

Also, does anyone in 5A North play D. Scores this post season looked more like basketball not football.

I was at the game tonight, SB went down the field 80 yards in 5 plays in the 2nd quarter like they were playing a JV team? Tuscarora had no answer for SB offense. These Div. 5 teams can not play any pass defense at all? 3 games played and gave up 200 pts????

NOT Good.....

How can you seriously criticize the 5A North teams? Both regional finalists were from Loudoun.

Yes, they give up a lot of points, but everyone has trouble stopping their offenses.

Did you see how the 5A schools from Loudoun did against the 6A schools from Fairfax and Arlington this year?

Tuscarora beat Hayfield 40-14, Oakton 28-14, Centreville 49-42, Herndon 70-28 and Edison 34-6.

Broad Run beat Wakefield (Conference 13 Champs at 8-2) 40-6, Langley 45-21, Centreville 56-21, Yorktown 51-3, Oakton 28-21 and lost to Robinson 31-20.

Stone Bridge beat McLean 42-6, lost to Madison 35-24, beat Chantilly 42-28, lost to Westfield 28-7 (game was tied when Stone Bridge QB went out for the game with an injury), beat West Springfield 41-10, and lost to Robinson 27-20 (quarterback still out).

Hell, even Briar Woods, in their worst season in recent memory, who finished last in their District, beat Chantilly!

Not good? Goal is to score more points that your opponent. These results speak volumes.

And Tilly Tittansw - who are you touting as so damn good?

Face it - Loudoun D5 schools are strong as hell.

The majority of those teams from Fairfax and Arlington were mediocre to poor. When the Loudon teams we saw touted as the top teams competed against the top Fairfax County teams I'm pretty sure the results were not as impressive. Briar Woods and Stone Bridge were beat by Westfield a combined 64-7. Yes SB's QB went out and WF was missing 5 offensive starters. Also, last time I checked SB's QB didn't play D just like the 5A teams from Loudon.

Tuscarora, a very good team, beat:
average Hayfield 40-14
average Oakton 28-14
below average Centreville 49-42
bad Herndon 70-28
horrible Edison 34-6

Broad Run, another very good team:
a below average Wakefield (Conference 13 Champs at 8-2-COnf 13? really?) 40-6
bad Langley 45-21
below average Centreville 56-21
bad Yorktown 51-3
average Oakton 28-21
and lost to a very good Robinson 31-20

Stone Bridge beat:
average McLean 42-6
lost to a good Madison 35-24 (first game of the year)
average Chantilly 42-28
lost to a very good Westfield 28-7 (game was tied when Stone Bridge QB went out for the game with an injury; WF without the suspended starters-a wash at least)
average and unpredictable West Springfield 41-10
lost to a very good Robinson 27-20 (quarterback still out).

Hell, even Briar Woods, in their worst season in recent memory, who finished last in their District, beat (average) Chantilly! And got waxed by Westfield.

If you know anything about the history of this area and the relative strength of the Loudon and Fairfax county teams, Loudon won the games they should have and split the better matchups 7-7. And that is not taking into consideration that the Concorde is, overall, a bit down this year and the Loudon schools did not really play SC and LB.

Conference 14 is very good. But I would not rank ANY of the Loudoun 5A North teams over ANY of the final 4 in 6A North (SC, WF, LB, ROB).

The last 3, 5A playoff games:
63-49
54-41
50-49

306 points??? play some defense my MAN. The last play of the half last night was a replay of the Lions vs. packers game. Knock the ball down.

Last weeks 6A Games:
20-15
31-7
Total 73 That is a long way from 306 with the Championship game today. Play some defense when you come to Fairfax County next season.

BTW- not a Charger backer
