I guess you haven't had to take a carb apart to clean the ethanol gunk out..

At worst, it's still quicker and cheaper to clean a carb once a season than to go driving off to freaking Front Royal just to get a few gallons of lawn mower gas. And of course, most of all this complaining comes from dullards convinced that E10 is some sort of nanny-state contrivance to deprive them of their God-given "Liberty and Freedom". Such odd beliefs these people have.

For small engines mix up an extra heavy dose of Stabil or run the carb dry, add some Stihl Moto-Mix and start engine back up and run it for a minute or 2 to make sure the Moto-Mix is in the carburetor.

Moto-Mix is stupid expensive but it is cheaper and easier than having a piece of power equipment that will not run when you need it.

The main reason I went to Front Royal to get gas was I had bought a new Honda outboard engine for a sailboat and it had to be reliable, I didn't want ethanol causing problems when out in the boat etc..

Ethanol fuel is crap, government idea of the way to save the world, not happening.

Anyway even filling your lawn and garden equipment with non Ethanol fuel and letting it sit for months is not much better than Ethanol fuel anyway, it can still gum up things.

Just run your junk dry use a hefty dose of Stabil or Moto-Mix.

Most fools these days have no tools or skills to take things apart.

Why even take things apart when there are solutions other than worrying about non Ethanol fuels.

FOX News is the province of Montana Mountain Men and idiots afraid that Obama is coming to take away their snow-blowers.

Meanwhile, the use of corn ethanol was easy to implement here and it helps pave the way toward cellulosic ethanol as that technology matures. It meanwhile reduces petroleum-dependency as well as air quality and resulting health care problems and costs for some 75 million Americans. It also eats significantly into the whopping corn subsidies that taxpayers once shelled out annually.

E10 is approved and entirely suitable for use in all late models cars and other light-duty vehicles with no modifications to their engines or fuel systems. E10 has a slightly lower air-to-fuel requirement than pure gasoline. In the unlikely event that your vehicle has the sort of engine that might be affected by that, have the fuel mix adjusted.

E10 is mandated in certain areas where air pollution had been a serious long-term problem. In NoVa, these areas include Alexandria City, Arlington County, Fairfax City and County, Falls Church City, Loudoun County, Manassas and Manassas Park, Prince William County, and Stafford County.

Fauquier County is not on that list. Marshall, Virginia is in Fauquier County and is one-third closer than Front Royal. In fact, you have to drive right past Marshall and its Exxon station to get to Front Royal. You might want to check out the Gulf station over in Beltsville as well. In fact, here is a handy map of where to get E0 around here, courtesy of pure-gas.org.

I can't say if the Ethanol helped to make OPEC drop the prices, but it would be nice to have a station that sells Non Ethanol Fuel. It sucks for Boats and Lawn Equipment.

The problem isn't so much the ethanol, it's the fact that companies that build small engines are still using carburetors. Until they make a small fuel injected lawn mower engine or otherwise, it's going to continue to be a problem.

The standards are slowly changing, E10 was implemented and companies have 10 years to adapt before it bumps up to E15. I expect the cycle to continue to E20, E25, etc.. and continue to advance through our lifetimes until alternative fuels and power sources become more relevant over oil.

I've heard the same from several boat owners that I know. Especially outboards for some reason.

No. We still have air (and lungs) that need to be kept clean. You can just go to Beltsville with your boats and mowers.

Not going to happen anytime soon. Cost and complexity are issues. Fuel injection is just starting to become common in larger single cylinder engines. There are also some areas where a carb just makes more sense, like a 2-stroke weed eater or chainsaw.

Ethanol helps gas and water to blend together. Boats, small engines, motorcycles sit idle more than your main vehicle. Gas and water will separate quickly, shitty ethanol will stay cloudy for about ten minutes. You could buy a bushel of corn for what the additives cost to fight this bullshit libfuel cost. Our livestock need corn not my boat, or small engines.

My understanding is that E10 also goes bad much faster that E0. When I don't have the chance to get to Front Royal, I keep my mower gas for about a month then dump it into my beater Jeep. I do twice that (or more) with E0.

E15 gas is currently offered in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. A North Carolina Sheetz said it would also start issuing that crappy 'gas.'

The EPA has approved E15 for use in 2001-and-newer passenger vehicles but not for motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers and other small engines.

Stay away from the E15 crap.

I would appreciate at least the OPTION of being able to buy ethanol-free gas in Prince William County, even at a modest premium. There is no doubt that ethanol messes up some engines. That is not even debateable. It just does. So why the hell should I have to drive all the way to Front Royal or cross state lines to then insecurely transport over long distances the only stuff that won't bugger up my outboard motor, classic motorcycle or car or lawn equipment by design? It seems to me to be at once dangerous, wasteful and counter-productive, basically burning up a couple-few gallons of junk gas to get the "pure gas." Seriously, why can't there be at least 2 stations per zip code, say, if only for competition's sake, or within such and such distance of an interstate highway, allowed to sell ethanol-free gas? How would that be unreasonable, given the fact that ethanol DOES mess up some engines? Just speaking for myself, like most folks I probably wouldn't be using it for every engine. But for some: sure.

Most ethanol free needs are in the farming communities, so that is why the product is offered in the rural areas. There is not much demand in your area, so to go to the expense of offering ethanol free gasoline is not worth the investment. This is how big business works - Supply and demand.

There is a 20-year-old federal mandate to sell reformulated gas in metropolitan areas. This was based on air quality, not supply and demand. http://www.epa.gov/region4/air/naaqs/reform.htm

The biggest supporters of putting ethanol in gasoline are in the farm lobby. All those Republican corn farmers in the midwest and their agri-business buddies are responsible.

It is the the law as you mentioned - But

Ethanol free gasoline is needed in equipment - Not automobiles that produce the bulk of the pollution.

If there were a real need for ethanol free gasoline in Fairfax or Prince William County there would be stations offering it for sale. So we are to supply and demand.

I have a GM pick-up that can take E85 gasoline, 30 cents cheaper per gallon, but good luck finding it in Northern Virginia.

Supply and demand.

yea running a gas station never ordered the ethanol stickers for the pumps "as law required be on them"

used whatever came out of the truck which is whatever came out of the pipe which already had %n of ethanol. possibly added an additive to certain tanks but not ethanol - that was already in there.

----------------------------------
this is a case of "too lazy to order a sticker" is my bet

here's the math

if ethanol is %10 , then %10 of thousands of gallons requires a separate fueling truck

but we know there's no such thing as an "ethanol truck"

nor have we ever (seen) a tank farm which has separate gas and ethanol holding tanks - it comes from the pipeline into the tanks , and (pigs) separate type (diesel, gas, aircraft)

its' already in there

ok now prove me wrong g-ahead
