Cops All Over the Reston Town Center Tonight parking lot? 7:40pm? Roped Off Area

It looked to me like there may have been a traffic stop of a an older silver or compact car. They had the garage still open so I'm guessing it was some incident between the car and the officer who pulled it over.

The taped off area seems to indicate they trying to save evidence that area. Not sure why they would be taking pictures.

Probably a jumper. Fingers crossed, it was GerryManderer2.

Police Investigating Death at Reston Town Center

Fairfax County Police are investigating the death of a Reston resident who was found dead in a grassy area next to a Reston Town Center parking garage about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Lucy Caldwell said the victim has been identified as a 55-year-old Reston resident, but police will not be releasing her identity.

The victim was found near the garage on Explorer Street. Her death may have been a suicide by jumping off the garage.

Police believe there was no foul play involved. The county medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, Caldwell said.

Possibly. she did live in Reston though.

Jumping from a 5 story parking lot seems pretty risky. What if you just paralyzed yourself. That would suck.

Kind of hard to get feedback from the ones who succeed, but among near misses, it is about universal (among those not dealing with terminal illnesses) to hear that the attempt was a rash and impulsive act taken under stress, and that they are so happy to have failed and still have the rest of their lives to look forward to. Suicide after all is a long-term answer to short-term problems. It is almost always a bad, bad, bad idea.

They say people get depressed around the major holidays.

There is a homeless and drug shelter right across the street from the Town Center. Maybe it was somebody how was living there.

I just wanted to add that I know "the jumper". She's the mother of a friend of my niece and someone I exchange greetings with at the gym. She was very fit and petite and could easily have been mistaken for someone much younger from at distance at night. I'm so sorry for her family and friends and hope this thread returns to a more dignified path.

No. there won't likely be. When it is a suicide, police almost never release name or anything else out of respect for the family. We usually don't report on suicides, either, unless they are in a really public place like this one.
