FX series "The Americans" needs our help!
Posted by: let's help 'em out! ()

“The Americans,” a dramatic series set in Falls Church during the Reagan Cold War-era, is looking for a little help, possibly from a local business.

Producers for the FX Networks’ show, which begins re-airing in January, are looking for a 1982 (or thereabouts) TV commercial featuring a Falls Church business.

The commercial would air as part of the TV program, a period drama produced by former CIA officer Joe Weisberg. The series centers on two Soviet intelligence agents Elizabeth (actress Keri Russell) and Philip (actor Matthew Rhys) Jennings, who pose as a married couple in order to spy on the American government.

If you know of a local business with a TV commercial that fits the bill, contact the series’ Assistant Post Coordinator Celia Aniskovich at: caniskovich@gmail.com

Mr. Rays hair weave would get a lot of local laughs too, Silver Spring based company, may be a little inside baseball for some, but DC lifers will get it.

If you really need Falls Church, try to find an old Don Beyer Volvo ad.

At about 1:50, there is a Holiday Spas commercial. At the end, there is a good one for Pimlico.

Mr. Ray's Hair Weave immediately came to my mind too, as well as Jhoon Rhee Karate ("Nobody bodders me!") and of course those big sales of men's, women's, and children's clothes at Morton's, Morton's, Morton's!

Great show. They already did Jhoon Rhee last season.

Don't think this is for. '82 but it's close:

The Ourisman Chevrolet girl singing their jingle would be a very good one!

From back in the day, I remember those commercials for "Lee Press-On Nails" ("Oh, darn, I just broke a nail!")

The last one I want to nominate, I don't even remember what the product even *was.* But they showed a man in a tuxedo painting a ceiling with the unforgettable VO: "No drips. No drops. IN A TUXEDO!"

Just thought of something else. Popiel products were always on the airwaves. The "Popiel Pocket Fisherman," etc.

Yeah but I think they're looking for a local business.

Falls Church during the Reagan Cold War-era

had few illegals (diplomats excluded)

Star Wars was in the theaters no real wars going on.

Russia was working with the USA to build the space program.

-------------------------
so i want to see your history of it?

no, i don't

earlier there had been a cold war - not then - no string of missing subs or near nuclear meltdowns of russian subs right of the eastern board, durign Reagan

Looks like everyone loves the Jhoon Rhee commercials but as they already have used that one, my vote is for the Ourisman Chevrolet girl, Mr. Ray's Hair Weave, or Morton's. Or Carvel, with their stupid Santa or Whale, depending on what direction the mold for it was pointing.

Cold War was still on back then. It lasted from 1947-1991, you eejit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War

Yes, there were fewer illegals (but still a lot), there were the boat people and even suburban streets were flooded with those who were "homeless by choice" as mental health facilities were being closed down. When are people going to stop worshipping and idealizing Reagan?

Reagan had little to do with the mentally ill being released. That's a myth.

It was primarily a result of the mental health community and civil libertarians pushing to have them closed because of poor conditions and abuse in public institutions and for passage of CRIPA.

That's how Geraldo became well known after his report on Willowbrook.

oh I saw a documentary about that documentary. Some place in Staten Island, I think. Some of those ruins of that facility are still there in the woods! Yep, Geraldo exposed them, and it helped his early career as an expose' journalist.
