Stuck in traffic on Sleepy Hollow Rd. and Columbia Pike due to a police standoff. Saw a few cops with AR-15s pointed at a house. Heard them say over a bullhorn, "Come out with your hands up!"

Weird, I saw the heli hovering over the Annandale hs area for 10 minutes with his spot light on.

Columbia pike still blocked off from Mason District Park to Sleepy Hollow Road at 8:46pm in Annandale. Supposed hostage situation continues.

Bomb squad trucks were there but now moved. Motorcycle cop still there forcing westbound traffic to turn around at entrance Mason District park. Still maintaining some kind of perimeter but nobody with drawn weapons seen. No helicopters.

Ok, they are now down to one bicycle cop with his mace can out of his holster. They will probably resolve this within the hour.

The ( M&T ? ) Branch over in the shopping center across from Annadale High next to the CVS and the H-Mart was taped off last Friday about 12:00 PM with maybe 5 or 6 Black and Whites parked out front. Didn't see it show up in the news. Maybe they tracked down who did it.

Black and whites... so Alexandria cops showed up? They're more like white and blacks.

Around 11:00 there were police cars in front of Dice Burger (where the main Annandale shopping strip is) blocking off NE-bound Columbia Pike. Don't know where the problem was exactly, but it might have been closed as far up as the park (near the nursing home). Police say it was a "barricade situation".

There was a TV crew doing a report from the Fritzbees parking lot. Police were gone shortly thereafter.

At 6:30 PM I got the text alert:

WB Columbia Pike @ Sleepy Hollow Rd & EB Columbia Pike @ Rose lane closed due to Police activity. Motorist should avoid area if possible.

ANNANDALE, Va. (WJLA) – Fairfax County Police were on the scene Monday night of an apparent domestic hostage situation that shut down a major road.

The home where the domestic situation was happening sits right on Columbia Pike. A little less than a half mile of the pike near the home was shut down.

Columbia Pike was closed from Sleepy Hollow Road to the Golden Living Center across from Mason District Park.

Police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell says the situation started around 4:45pm Monday afternoon.

Caldwell says a woman was in the home with her estranged boyfriend. She called her family and said she felt unsafe and wanted to leave, but he would not allow her to. The family then called police, who responded and eventually shut down the road.

Police were not sure if the estranged boyfriend was armed. They say both he and the woman are in their 30s.

Police were asking neighbors on the street to stay inside their homes as a precaution.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Fairfax County Police tweeted that the situation had been resolved.

Both the woman and her estranged boyfriend are in custody. There are warrants on the man, who will face charges. It is unclear whether the woman will face any charges in the case.

Estranged used in place of ex generally means seperation on worse than usual terms.

Busy day on Columbia Pike yesterday, hostage standoff, pedestrian killed, and driving home I passed about a dozen fire trucks heading from Bailey's towards Arlington. Even saw cops at Culmore, but that's just a normal Monday there.

The Annandale video pretty funny. Remove the part about getting F'd and you'd get more hits. Hey if it's that bad must be prime for redevelopment and housing prices should skyrocket!
