All you people who hate people who are in the SNAP program should realize, you, not them are the problem, you lay off people (like me) that had a great job, but, the cut backs caused me to get help. Sure, I work, I am using food stamps, what would you do if you got laid off!! I rather be working a full time job, but, things just don't work that way. I am 61, while, female, we are suppose to listen to your trash talk about people who really want to work but are refused to?? Wait until you retire, see how much you are going to get on SS, It wont be much, I want to work till I was 70, well, Obama has other ideas, I get 187 a month can you live health on that, I doubt it. I have to supplement it with other places to make ends meet, I also lost my home, I have to live in my car with my 2 cats, could you do that? I doubt it.
Homeless (in my case) was not my first choice, let me work. If you decide that you are so much better, prove it. And hire the people who REALLY want to work, like me.

You have to understand compassionate conservatism. It's the opposite of actual compassion. And actual conservatism.

You speak of people who have more regard for money than for people. Women. Children. The sick. The elderly. They don't care. They want the money ahead of any of those.

Sorry for your predicament, but I must ask, how in the hell can one reach the age of 61 and be in a financial state where a job layoff puts you on the street?

Since I was very young, I pledged to myself that I would be financially secure when I got old. I never made more than $40K in my life, yet was able to pay off a modest house and save nearly $2 million, just by living frugally and not buying shit I didn't need.

Granted, interest on deposits wasn't abolished until recently, and I've been single all my life, which saves a lot of money, especially if you hook up with the wrong guy. (kids were also out of the question, WAY too expensive!)

Social Security can go belly up and I should still be OK, barring a total meltdown of the US economy (which I think there's a 50/50 chance of).

I hope things improve for you.

I have no idea what happened to this woman, but I can easily posit several scenarios where she could wind up like this...

1. Divorce. Haven't been there, but from what I understand it can be incredibly expensive. Women don't seem to come out well financially. Its also possible that she had kids and the guy didn't pay child support.
2. Kids. Children are expensive. Well worth it, but expensive. If you have a child with physical or mental health issues, the costs escalate exponentially - even if you're insured.
3. Mental health problems.
4. Physical health problems - especially with a pre-existing condition prior to the ACA.
5. Bad timing in the real estate market.

There are a million things that can go wrong in anyone's life. Not saying you are, but I try not to judge.

They call themselves "conservatives" and "libertarians", but they are mere corporate feudalists. Not that such feudalism would do them any good. They are all just toy soldiers recruited to the task by a large propaganda network that the feudalists built up over the past few decades.

If you tell people 50 times that debt and spending are bad and that some usurper black Muslim guy from Kenya is trying to use those tools to destroy America, some people will come to believe it. Not from among the brighter half of the population, but down among the dumber half, there will be much fear-based success.

Meanwhile, actual conservatives fully recognize the obligation of society to include and address the needs of ALL of its members. One for you and nineteen for me just doesn't work. Unless you are a feudalist. Feudalists are the real enemy here.

can you maybe stop putting your political thoughts and feelings into posts that have absolutely nothing to do with it? conservatives didn't get the OP fired, it just makes you look like a fool to shill so hard, don't you have any capacity for embarrassment?

Some people just aren't cut out for living in a hollow log and eating wild nuts and berries. Some aren't cut out for telling the truth about their financial situations either.

Interest has not been abolished at all. You simply don't understand what it is or where it comes from.

All this makes you just like at least a dozen other Americans. Most of them live in tiny cabins in the mountains of Montana. You must be an outlier.

> Social Security can go belly up and I should still be OK...

Social Security is presently sitting on a surplus (i.e., extra money) of $2.78 trillion. Those funds exist so as provide benefits to the demographic blip of the baby boomers without having to raise taxes. Barring changes, Once they are gone, the system will revert back to being a pay-as-you-go system (as it was prior to 1983) funded from the most dependable revenue stream in the world -- US payrolls.

Admittedly, electing too many Republicans has quite a history of resulting in total meltdowns, but we look safe enough through 2016 in any case.

It's you who should be embarrassed. The OP's story is inextricably linked to conditions that came from and are being furthered by those calling themselves conservatives. Are you aware of nothing at all here?

Like so many others, that train has gone off the tracks. You've got one-time hotshot contractors taking 30-50% pay cuts just to keep a job. Guess what direction Tuesday will push things in.

The new American Dream - stay single, work in a low paying job your whole life, never travel, never eat out, dont marry, dont have kids and dont get sick.

Tough shit, I started saving for retirement when I was 19 due to someone who talked some sense into me. Worked a hard job with mediocre pay for 35 years but saved all the raises and colas. Now in my late 50's enjoying retirement from some good investments from the money I saved rather than buying toys. Those just starting out , compare the 2 stories and decide how you want to end up. The turtle apparently won this race so cry me a river. You can thank those like me for getting you that snap card.

Well, I do have health insurance (thank you, President Obama!), so I can get sick, although I really hope I don't.

MY American Dream was to get to a place financially where NO corporate son of a bitch in a suit with a brief case has the power to turn my life upside down. I have a job, but if I get laid off or fired, my life won't change one iota.

The satisfaction I get from total financial independence far, far exceeds that of eating out, traveling, kids, fancy houses and cars etc. That's just me though, you are free to go into hock up to your ears trying to keep up with the Joneses if that's YOUR American Dream.

No, if you have health insurance only as a result of ObamaCare, then thank the rest of us taxpayers who are working not only to provide for ourselves, but to subsidize your sorry ass.

What have you done to assure that? Have you started and made successful your own business so that you're not immediately answerable to and dependent on someone else, who may fire you on a whim? You have a job, some of us have careers.

if you're depending on Obama to provide your healthcare, you're not independent by any measure. I call BS!

You don't even understand what Obamacare is. I have a pre-existing condition which rendered me uninsurable. Obamacare put a stop to that. Now I can (and have) purchased a BC/BS health insurance policy on the open market and I pay the full premium. With my investments, I have far too high an income to qualify for a subsidy. My insurance is not costing you a dime. Quit listening to that bullshit on talk radio, it really makes you sound like a moron.

I will carry this policy for four years until I reach age 65 and qualify for Midecare.

And you can stick your "career" up your ass. I could buy and sell you.

You did not get the message: The election results resulted in the Democrat leadership abandoning the fantasies of the past four years.

Dems had the first two years under Obama to pass anything they wanted.
Then four years of shared responsibility with Republicans.
And now a year or so before the 2016 election process starts to either speak nonsense or work on solutions. We'll see what you choose.

bull-o-va gov has a mexican, with accent, controlling food stamps

they are letting illegals walk into building (building next to taj majal, fx co gov center)

the mexican makes sure they all get food stamps - is running food stamp fraud. an dfx co gov not only knows about it. they are doing it to buy votes: with my fucking money

fucking liar. fx city church is not taking donations for food drives: fx city church (which was historic) is NOW a privately owned nursery for raising illegal children given by fx co gov for the purpose - sold by bull-o-va gov

however mexico is a news media bullshitter. building casinos everywhere in mexico. and so is obama gov, mc'mansions and casinos going up at a crazy pace

the fact is the claim of need patently is obviously fake, just criminals threatening others away from the fake money
