Vienna Halloween Parade - Maple Ave. closed
Posted by: 22180 resident ()

It’s a fun event that comes around every fall, the Vienna Halloween Parade. Town organizers want to be sure that residents know about street closures that could affect their evening commute or trip to the grocery store. Here’s what you need to know:

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, Maple Avenue (Route 123 in the Town of Vienna) between East Street and Lawyers Road will be CLOSED from 6:50 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. for the annual Vienna Halloween Parade.

Vienna is a miserable bottle neck every single weekend. Stay away from Vienna unless you have a lot of time to waste.

How the fuck are they allowed to shut down a major artery for stupid shit like homecoming parades and halloween? I would say that the Virginia needs to stop any and all funding to Vienna for roads if they do this shit.

They love to impede private transportation. There must be more speed bumps and no turn signs in Vienna than in some entire states. Now they are even considering roundabouts. http://www.viennava.gov/MediaCenter.aspx?CID=What-is-a-Roundabout-2 Vienna is so sophisticated!

Yes, that's quite a nice place. Not always easy to get reservations though, as having no such thing of their own, hinterlanders can tend to clog up the schedule.

So the hinterlander did Google it, and doesn't know how to use a knife, fork and spoon. By the way, Tim's wife is Joey. Ever met her? Ever had dinner with the two of them?

This is above the level of the elementary school repartee that is your forte, but others will find it edifying:

Quote

Bullshitting, as he notes, is not exactly lying, and bullshit remains bullshit whether it's true or false. The difference lies in the bullshitter's complete disregard for whether what he's saying corresponds to facts in the physical world: he "does not reject the authority of the truth, as the liar does, and oppose himself to it. He pays no attention to it at all. By virtue of this, bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are."

It also doesn't answer either of the questions. It merely continues a desperately contrived quest into trivial matters designed to cover up the fact that you don't know how to use a knife, fork, or spoon.

Joey Hernandez used to send out email updates when the restaurant first opened.

I haven't been in maybe 3 years, but I love the Dr. Pepper ribs. I heard they added wings to their menu that are supposedly sublime.

You really can't expect a whole lot from these hinterlanders. If these brutish clans had ever had a grain of sense, they would have come together and incorporated into towns, thereby having a chance one day to become respectable places to work, live, and play. Instead, they remain mired in clumsy dark-ages ignorance, and the Census Bureau has to come along and designate them as someplace. How dismally backward!

Another step up for Vienna when Chopt opens where Magruders used to be. I know there's one at Dupont Circle, and one at Farragut Square, and also one in Rosslyn. Vienna would be the perfect target for upscale suburban expansion. I think they have like thirty different homemade dressings for your salad or sandwich? Yum, yum, yum! I'll be looking forward to that!

Oh look! The boogie-woogie Google Boy from Company B has gotten another hit. With the aid of clues. And the feebly ducked matter of whether you've ever met her or had dinner with the two of them is a resounding NO!

MOney's tight, eh? Might be better to just stick with Applebee's.

Moron, the menu undergoes continuous change. The short-ribs braised in Dr. Pepper (and a lot of other things) were from 2009. The creme fraiche wings/drummetes are more recent, but don't count on finding them on the menu this evening. They'll probably be on Google forever though, so can't-make-the-grade losers can always enjoy staring at them there. Much cheaper, too!

Agreed. The idea of Mrs. Green's didn't really intrigue me so much, but Chop't seems to have a better (and financially more stable) thing going, so it will be interesting to see how it works out. Magruders was great, but at least we get another unique resource+ out of it. Probably going to cause some more envy out in the designated places, though.

Correct. Herndon may not have a Fresh Market yet, but they have long been a proper and respectable town that, like Vienna, has worked to preserve their small-town feel and ambiance against the crush of high-speed, high-rise development going on around them. Stuck out there along the edge of freaking Loudoun County, it unlikely that Herndon can ever come to have the cosmopolitan cachet of a place like Vienna, but they stand head and shoulders above the lot of these unorganized and ramshackle designated places.

That's really weak. You must be from Centreville or something. Do you know where Centreville is? Does anybody?

As further proof of your dumbness, Herndon has a Sleepy's, a Mattress Warehouse, and a Mattress Discounters. Vienna does not.

No, that's the whole problem. There simply is no "definite" with a CDP -- no place where you can go and say there, now you're inside and now you're not. The boundaries that Census invents and employs are for statistical purposes only. They have no real-world use or meaning at all. Centreville is just a colloquial approximation with no fixed or definite properties at all.

> Hmm. You learn something new every day.

Some might, but if you had, you'd be a whole lot smarter than you are today.

The town of Centreville existed long before a CDP was even a term. Learn some local history

And what about those poor unfortunate souls in unincorporated Vienna?

Here is some more things you can learn, dipshit....

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Inside-a-Notorious-Gangs-Ties-to-Virginia-226839301.html#

"But violence has hit Virginia harder than some may realize. By the early 2000s, Herndon was thrust into the national spotlight for gruesome gang murders."

Way to google, boy. Here's at least one day on which you can say that you actually did learn something. Mark it down. But of course, no one is really talking about 1792. While a few incorporations from that era have survived into modern times, those who are not engaged in typically desperate evasion and escapism here are talking about today -- when what are now actual Towns in Virginia require an actual Charter from the state that Centreville does not have. It also does not therefore have a Town Council, a Mayor, a zoning authority, a public services agency, a police force, or any of the other things that would or might distinguish a proper Town from a mere colloquialism. Centreville might as well be Cabbage Patch for all the difference a simple and uncertain name makes. The contrast to actual Towns like Herndon, Vienna, and Clifton is stark and quite dramatic. Too bad for all the rest.

> And what about those poor unfortunate souls in
> unincorporated Vienna?

Fool! Souls aside, there are no people at all in unincorporated Vienna as there is no such place. All of Vienna is incorporated and those who live in unincorporated areas by definition do not live in it. It's a Boolean thing. There are of course people not at all a part of Vienna who happen to have a mailing address that the US Postal Service has decided to call Vienna for its own reasons and purposes. This means just as much as some Census designation might, i.e., nothing. These people do not vote and cannot hold office in Vienna, they pay no taxes to the Town, and receive no services or benefits from it that they do not pay extra for. They do however like to say that they live in Vienna. It is so much more comforting to be able to say that one lives in an actual Town even when one knows full well that it is not the case.

> Here is some more things you can learn, dipshit....

LOL! This reminds me of a thread some time ago in which some goober-yokel tried to use the alleged circumstances of a petty theft of property in Falls Church from 2010 as evidence that Metro was a conduit for crime. Had to go that far back -- ten solar eclipses now -- to find an outlier to fit his ignorant goober-claim. What a dope. Similarly, Herndon is not gang-turf, but actually a haven, a Town that offers safe, secure, well-maintained neighborhoods that have held back the snarling traffic congestion, the overcrowding, and other consequences of growth and development that have simply swept over so many unincorporated areas of the County. Herndon is an oasis, a green space, a place to come home to where friendly neighbors are part of a nurturing and cooperative municipal environment in which families grow, prosper, and thrive. Small-town America that's all grown up.

By the way, replays of the Vienna Halloween Parade were on public access TV last night. I think they showed it twice. Including of course the Kena Temple Shriners who were indeed zooming back and forth in their little tiny cars again this year. They brought the bagpipers along as well. Such a good time! Only in Vienna and such actual places of course!

Look in a mirror. Besides, substance trumps style (while acknowledging the occasional verisimilitude of your posts). It's off to the Vienna Inn for a Tex Mex omelet with some home fries.

Not sure what these turkey grade-schoolers are gobbling about, but they certainly are tripping over themselves. That's an idiom by the way for those of you who may have trouble keeping up with such things.

And of course "ullshit" does not turn Bold on. Download a manual or something, children.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Edin Ayala-Melgar, 35, of Herndon, Va., was sentenced today to 60 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for making false declarations before the grand jury.

Chyna testified this month that she advocated moving the operation to Northern Virginia, saying Herndon was the most lucrative place she ever worked.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force, with assistance from the Town of Herndon Police Department.

Too many MS13 Gang members

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CHRG-109hhrg29710/html/CHRG-109hhrg29710.htm

Gangs continue to threaten our suburban communities in Dale City, Manassas, Herndon, and even in the bucolic Shenandoah Valley.

Like all of us, I'm tired of seeing headlines about Fairfax youths being attacked by machetes, or a 17-year-old Herndon youth being shot to death by MS-13 gunmen on bicycles

A group of alleged MS-13 gang members threatened to injure the victim if he did not pay them. Two juveniles were stopped and identified. Juvenile petitions are pending.

A federal judge yesterday sentenced a second member of the Mara Salvatrucha — or MS-13 — street gang to life in prison for his role in the killing of a rival gang member.

U.S. District Judge T. S. Ellis III sentenced Alirio Reyes, 27, of Herndon, to a mandatory life term for murdering Jose Sandoval, 17, a Herndon High School freshman.

http://www.newsweek.com/most-dangerous-gang-america-114579

Only a week later in Herndon, a member of the 18th Street gang was pumped full of .38-caliber bullets, while his female companion, who tried to flee, was shot in the back.

Recent search warrant affidavits culled from Fairfax Circuit Court repeatedly show suspected gang-related activity in all parts of the county, including Chantilly, Centreville, Herndon and especially Reston.

Wow. You're a fucking fag.

When I said I haven't been there in 3 years, it's because I live in the city. I read about the wings in the Northern VA magazine. I guess they are big time now, huh?

But, enjoy your 10 table, shoe store of a restaurant that could operate out of a food truck. They'll never match Komi, Little Serow, Rose's or, fuck, this Applebee's shithole that you speak of.

Are they located in your little Vienna shopping mall? Tell us more about it. Do you bring coupons?

Same old Obsessive desperation as always. You goober-fucks just can't keep up. Herndon is a perfectly lovely suburban community. It's a little further from a lot of the really nice things than some other places, but a gang-haven, it is definitely not. Even badly butthurt dumbfucks ought to know better than that.

Hmmm. Where's the Mattress Warehouse? Herndon has a Sleepy's, a Mattress Warehouse, and a Mattress Discounters. Vienna does not. It has only two of the three. I guess you don't have the snail's intelligence that it would have taken to know the difference.

Vienna simply swamps other locations in terms of outstanding dining opportunities. Mosaic is trying to catch up, but it will be a while before they are able to. More and more it is the case that if you live in this area, there is simply no need to go elsewhere to satisfy an upscale palate.

And those two little hole-in-the-wall neighborhood places at DuPont Circle nearly did burn down over the weekend. Aside from their insurance companies, it wouldn't have mattered much to anyone if they had.

I know that Vienna has Urban Mattress and Savvy Rest and that more than makes up for the recently departed Mattress Warehouse. Your math skills suck too! LOL!

Oh, and Mattress Warehouse only recently closed in Vienna. LOL! I bet you miss it!

SUSPECTED gang-related activity? Let fear push you into establishing an unneeded "gang unit" and you'll get plenty of that WMD-like "suspecting" stuff going on. Get lost in your doofus police-blotter bullshit all you like. The simple fact remains that Herndon is a perfectly wonderful if perhaps too-distant suburban community. Better still once service to/from Herndon-Monroe begins.

Yes. That is how search warrants work. Police officers allege criminal activity in order to get a judge to sign them. Do this too often without substantial success, and there are consequences a police department doesn't want to face.

Is this the first time you've heard of the term search warrant?

There is NOT a Sleepy'S located within the town boundaries of Herndon. Vienna is the undisputed mattress king of towns of NOVA!!!

Everywhere has an Outback, fool. And a CVS as well. But Fredericksburg? Stafford? Seriously? There is nothing there to justify the cost and hassle of getting there. Half the point is that in Vienna, you have many outstanding dining options to choose from that are just a stone's throw away. Two stone's throws and you can add everything at Mosaic and Tysons. And Fairview Park. Unless you have some independent reason to be elsewhere, you simply don't need to go wandering away from Vienna in order to enjoy a nice meal. From many different cuisines. There is no other proximate area that can make so well-grounded a claim.

Each town has two of the three mentioned and Vienna wins with their addition of Urban Mattress and Savvy rest. How urbane is Vienna with classy names like Urban and Savvy to attach to their mattress empire? You go Vienna!!!

So, you didn't look up the term cherry picking. Can't fault me for trying to get you to learn something today. I guess you have come to the realization that you are pretty incapable of learning all that much.

Here's another. They aren't hard to find.

http://patch.com/virginia/herndon/police-arrest-six-in-connection-with-armed-invasion-robbery-of-herndon-home

A multi-jurisdictional investigation ensued, of individuals from the Herndon, Berryville and Winchester areas, during which five arrests were initially made.

On Friday afternoon, Herndon Police announced a sixth and final arrest had been made.

The six suspects - four adults and two juveniles - are being charged with robbery, grand larceny, burglary, and gang participation.

LOL! Not even close for the first two. Unless you count the option of driving to Vienna. The high-density smart-growth urban zone along the Ballston Corridor does have a number of excellent dining options. But you typically have to live in a very expensive apartment or condo to be anywhere near them. Kind of a downer in comparison to what you could do in Vienna.

It's actually across a pretty wide Dulles Access and Toll road. You'd have to cross about 12 lanes of pretty fast moving traffic (most times of day). Then, you'd have to go a bit more to get to the Sleepy's

But if you want to include unincorporated areas, fine. We can include the other Sleepy's, Mattress Lion, and the Healthy Back Store all on Leesburg Pike with an unincorporated Vienna addresses. Then there is the second Mattress Discounters on old Gallows with an unincorporated Vienna address.

Speaking of snail's intelligence, why don't you just creep away. You've continued to fail post after post.

You were claiming that driving to Mosaic, Tyson's and Fairview Park as being two stones' (yes, the apostrophe goes AFTER the second "s") away from Vienna. Did you not claim this? Well, all of those places are the same two stones' throws away from the aforementioned places.

As does Clarendon, Courthouse, and will be soon in EFC neighborhood. La Côte D'Or has been there for more than 20 years and is excellent.

McLean has a number of good restaurants as well. Besides, it's not all about restaurants.

There are numerous SFH homes within walking distance to ALL of the areas discussed.

Actually, it is a downer to do it in Vienna compared to the other listed areas.

You must be new here or just got out of a coma. Herndon has had a gang problem going back at least a decade. There are no shortage of news articles over that time that document it. I think the police are doing a decent job of containing it, but to deny its existence is idiotic.

Regardless of what USPS says, those are in Tysons. That's a large and still developing commercial center that you really should have become aware of by now.

No, it is not the other side of the street as you'd still need to travel up another street crossing about 3 more streets. Ask you mom to show you how to read a map.

You have no tests, just idiocy. You lose (again).

> Regardless of what USPS says, those are in Tysons.

Sorry if I take the word of USPS over some uninformed nitwit on Fairfax Underground. I mean, they only deliver the mail. You on the other hand just make up lies and troll around from thread to thread.

You guys should just embrace your little mattress kingdom. Maybe get some signs to put up at the entrance to the town at both ends of 123. Maybe put up a big banner over Maple. "Welcome to Mattresstown, USA!"

A banner over Maple Avenue that says, "Welcome to Mattresstown, USA?"

That's brilliant!

Buffoons stuck in traffic on Maple Avenue will have all the time in the world to think about a replacement mattress!

The Vienna Town Council is in my pocket...I can make this happen!

Is one stone being thrown twice, or are two different stones being thrown once? I doubt you are bright enough to comprehend the question though.

> those places are the same two stones' throws away
> from the aforementioned places.

No, they aren't. Maybe they could compete re one or another, but none can match Vienna on an across-the-board basis. And Vienna of course has quite a head start with its own assortment of dining options anyway.

> As does Clarendon, Courthouse...

These and Virginia Square are PART OF the Ballston Corridor, moron.

Like EFC itself, it's in Arlington of course. I've dined there perhaps half a dozen times, but none of them have stood out. The place is perfectly fine, but it doesn't reach the level of excellent. It's certainly not Chasin' Tails or anything.

> McLean has a number of good restaurants as well.

No, it doesn't. The former Three Pigs bbq joint for instance is not anything to write home about in its latest incarnation. I've been twice so far. One more disappointment, and off the list it goes.

> Besides, it's not all about restaurants.

Sounds like a towel-throwing concession. Did you want to talk instead about grocery stores? Mini-marts? Farmers markets?

> There are numerous SFH homes within walking

Yes, there are, and over-served bar patrons pee in the front yards of them nightly. A scent of urine is a part of the local lifestyle. It lends a bit of urban authenticity.
