What part of Fairfax is most like Manhattan?

In terms of wealth and sophistication, I think either Tysons Corner or Reston Town Center is the equivalent of Manhattan.

None thank God. However if certain urban planners and developers get their way, Tyson's may soon resemble Manhattan.

Are urban planners the ones responsible for "wealth and sophistication"? Maybe understand the question before popping out some pop-tart answer.

The answer still is none. There's nothing here comparable. Now if they'd said wealthy suburban areas surrounding Manhattan, then there might be a few to list.

The traffic on the city side of the Lincoln Tunnel is similar to the traffic in the new-and-improved Tysons Corner.

Which means the traffic on the 495 exits to Tysons, both express and traditional, will soon by like the NJ side of the Lincoln Tunnel.

The current Fairfax policies and programs on low-income housing might be better than those in Manhattan in the 1960s, but I'm not so sure of that.

Road rage per mile of road are about the same.

Train track deaths per mile of track are about the same.

Violent crimes per illegal immigrant are about the same.

NYC cleaned up Times Square. Nothing in Fairfax compares with that.

It's ESOL, moron. I could recommend a tutor, if you'd like. Otherwise, you need to move to New York to help even things out.

If we donated That Reminds Me to Manhattan, it might start to equalize out that pesky "goober" problem.

I do understand the question Seriously. You just didn't like the answer. Some see Manhattan as something to aspire to. Others see it as something to be avoided. I didn't like Manhattan when I visited as a student or when I was posted there early in my career. Subsequent visits indicate some things have improved while other things have gotten worse, so I am definitely in the latter camp.

The real point is if you really like Manhattan, then live in Manhattan. If you like LA then live there. Same with Miami, New Orleans, Dallas and Chicago. Don't try to turn the DC metro area into some poor imitation of the real thing. Let it develop its own personality.

FTR: It's an acronym, comes in various flavors. "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio".

And now we're REALLY off-topic.

No, we're still in Fairfax County, where it's ESOL. It's the rest of heaven and earth that are off-topic in that regard. I shouldn't have to explain all this.

I've heard the conversations before comparing DC to NYC....

"NW is like Manhattan, with Rock Creek Park/Central Park being the divider between the rich part and the hood"

"NE is kind of like Brooklyn, SE is like the Bronx, SW is like Staten Island because no one goes there LOL"

There is really no comparison. NYC is so much more densely populated, the buildings are so much older and so much higher, the blocks are so much shorter, etc. You cannot make a good compare between DC and NYC, if you try to compare NoVa it is even more retarded.

Maybe Tysons is like White Plains and maybe Flushing has a lot of Koreans like Annandale but it's really not similar. At all.

No where. Fairfax and Manhattan has almost nothing in common.

"Sophistication" is in the eye of the beholder. IMO just because you go to a lot of musicals and eat at overpriced restaurants doesn't make you sophisticated.

But in term of straight up wealth maybe Great Falls or Clifton. But then again a lot of people who live in those places would barely qualify as middle class in Manhattan. Those clowns will pay $4000/month for a 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment without blinking an eye.

No part of Fairfax is anything like Manhattan.

Average population

Manhattan @ noon - 250,000 per square mile

Fairfax @ midnight -2,500 per square mile

The question is ignorant.

I'd say Vienna and Reston Town Center. In Vienna, Bazins is a Manhattan quality excellent restaurant, Pure Pasty is a Manhattan quality cheap eat, Vienna Music Exchange is a Manhattan quality record/cd store, and Silva's Patisserie is a Manhattan quality bakery. In Reston, Passion Fish is a Manhattan quality restaurant and Pitango is a Manhattan quality Gelato place. Also, in Reston, World of Beer has a huge selection of beers from all over the world, like the Peculier Pub in Greenwich Village. Unlike the Peculier Pub, which has an old fashioned decor, though, World of Beer has modern decor.

Vienna is like Mayberry, nothing redeeming about Vienna except for the Vienna inn

Reston is full of old white people, maybe comparable to upscale section of long island

Arlington is similar to Hoboken

Nothing around here is like NYC

Nova people don't dress like new Yorkers, nova people have zero sense of individual style
