Anybody know where I can buy Ballantine IPA in Virginia?

I believe it is only available in the northeast at this point. As you've probably already seen, it's available at the Below Deck Bottle Shop in Conshohocken, PA. That's 2.5-plus hours from here if you drive like a sane person.

Yeah, everybody's a beer snob these days. For me, if it's not Schloss Eggenberg, it's crap. Okay, maybe a cold Warsteiner would be okay too. But Pabst already produces some 70 beers, and they own but don't produce about 70 more. Ballantine IPA -- a near legend in its time -- was one of those. Brewers at Pabst wanted to bring it back, but the original recipe was lost, so they tried to recreate it from sketchy reports and a few people who been around and drunk the stuff 45 years ago. They feel like they've got something close, so we'll see what people think.

I agree -- where do you find Schloss Eggenberg? I used to get it all the time at either Whole Foods or Wegmans. But neither seem to carry it anymore.

Check Total Wine there are a few locations around Fairfax. They should have that plus an assortment of other fine brews.

Sea Pearl in the Mosaic District has Eggenberg on tap. I don't know what type it is though. Crisp, clean, refreshing. Medium gold color, not brown.

It is funny seeing all these urine-drinkers thinking that the crappiest of old-name beers are now hot. Pabst? Schlitz? Rolling Rock? How stupid would you have to be to drink that horse piss? Stupid enough to vote for Obama twice?

Agreed. For way less than 2 bucks a six pack, I can remember buying Schlitz, Ballantine, Rolling Rock, Piel's and Wiedemann's (sp) when we need to go quantity, not quality.

Those are today the names of holding companies. Do you know what that means?
