Every time I use the coin laundry I eat at Arthur Treacher's. Never a crowd, but always a steady flow of customers.

AT's will never be McDonald's, but it does have a following.

I like the place, stop in now and then, They take a beating here. Its all frozen food anyway, any fast food seafood, they pull it out of the freezer drop in in the grease. The clam platter is good and now and then I get the fish too. The shrimp I dont bother with , you cant get any decent shrimp for a few dollars, mostly just fried breading which the fish has too but oh well its cheap. The fries are good, just wish they had some good fresh homemade tarter sauce instead of the little bags of premade stuff.

Last time I went there the place was a mess. There was a homeless guy asleep in one of the booths and entire store was filthy. Ragheads behind the counter too.

Yuck! I dont know how it has survived.

Dont worry, the grease they fry in is hot enough to kill off even Ebola.

I've had better and worse fried seafood at Old Towns Fishmarket at 5 times the price.

Do they have the so called hush puppies? I can't find a seafood joint that makes em.

The hush puppies at AT are inedible

It's a CIA front. I went there long time ago and the cashier kept asking me if I was there to pick up the microfish.

Remember to brush after every meal.

Arthurs Treacher's is shit. What happened to the world famous Chesapeake Bay Seafood House? Damn that place had the best seafood and crab feasts. I'm sure mismanagement killed it. Seafood is more popular than ever these days.

What happened to CBSH, I'm sure, is that the price of the premium items tripled out from under them. To continue would have turned it into Arthur Treachers except with an outrageous overhead. End of game.

CBSH was ok, not great. After a few trips you realize everything is cooked in the same pot/fryer/pan because everything tastes the same. The All You Can Eat buffets werent bad for the money.

Chesapeake Bay went under and locations were converted to Chili's. Non-Chinese buffets close in have been dying out for some time.

I went there today, they should give the OP a large free order for all the business. Got a combo 6.99 with tax. Clams, fish two shrimp two hush puppies, It hit the spot. Now Repent Nay Sayers. One thing thats actually good is theres no line, So theres also no food sitting around in a pot thats 3 days old and has got to be sold. They cook each order as customers come, takes a bit longer but it just then cooked. As said its all frozen so what, most fast food is frozen fish, burgers, many others.

Now if you want some really good seafood like the other pic..make it yourself, thats the best way to go.

I used to eat there all the time as a kid. Loved the fish & chips with malt vinegar. I don't go to that Fairfacts location because it is NOT convenient. If it was down the street from me, I would go. Funny you think you are too good for the food. I would say the opposite is true.

I grew up around seafood - fresh off the boats. ATs is the McDonald's of seafood, but I've had much worse. For the price, it's a good deal.

Wow, you guys knocking this place unbelievable. It's fast, decent food for at a very reasonable price. And very different from all the other fast food options. Fried fish and potatoes, what's not to like? Thanks to this thread, I think I'll go by there sometime soon.

I love fried fish. Do they have hush puppies at AT's? This thread is making me hungry. When I get a hankerin I usually head to LJS in Falls Church. The place is dirty and has flies though. Still tastes yummy. Only get my fried fish fix once a year or so.

My first hourly job as a kid was as a fry cook at the LJS in Springfield. Horrible job and pay ($4 per hour I think), but got free food.

Good place to go while washing clothes next door. I have often wondered if they are doing drug deals there since there aren't a lot of people there.

I did a search for locations and their site (dated 2012) states:

"Over the years, the restaurant has built a tremendous customer following by maintaining its core menu, proprietary process and undeniably delicious secret batter diners crave. The concept currently has over 100 locations throughout the eastern portion of the United States with a healthy blend of mall, in-line and freestanding units."

But their locator lists only 15 total, one of which is Lee Hwy. I wonder how many of these places are still in existence.

My girlfriend has a old green and gold AT tee shirt that is about 40 years old - It belonged to her dad. He got the shirt when he worked at the location in Annandale back in the 70's. She wears it around the house braless with a little pair of white shorts. You can almost smell the fish.

Merry Christmas!

Speaking of horrible fast food is Long John Silvers still around? I went to the one in Falls Church 10 years ago and puked for days afterward. The shrimp appeared to be some sort of brine shrimp you would feed to Aquarium fish.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Those that come after us will not know what was. So let us who remember the old ways carry Mr. Treacher's fried cod in our hearts - as cholesterol, if not as memories.

No way that place was anything but a drop point for drugs and human trafficking. Oil hadn't been changed since 1986, but very few rats in the parking lot.

New place sounds gross. Fish and chips and dog tacos. Yuck.
