it's typically only fed to inmates with disciplinary problems. like fighting with prison staff. they'll put you on the loaf for a few weeks until you realize you're gonna have to deal with eating that crap if you don't settle down.

These people are locked up because they got in trouble with the law. We have to provide basic humanitarian services because supposedly we are a civilized society. But, that doesn't mean that they have to be offered Maggiano's while they are in jail.

They are offered the loaf. A cheap way to feed them and provide protein and calories.

If they don't like the food in jail, then don't break the law. Very simple.
