How about a REAL community forum?
Posted by: Tired of the B.S. ()
Date: October 23, 2014 05:27PM

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been looking for an onilne community forum where good neighbors can actually come together and discuss important topics. When I first discovered Fairfax Underground, I thought this might be it. Unfortunately I've found it to be full of juveniles and racists with little interest in actually being participating members of the local community.

So now I've discovered Nextdoor.com. It is NOT anonymous, so anyone who is interested in continuing the spewing of racist crap need not bother. However, it is a well structured board where people can actively engage with one another on topics that really matter to their neighbors. Right now its small and needs active participants, but it has potential.

For those of you who feel the same way I do, I encourage you to join. I'd love to have your assistance in building an actual community throughout Fairfax.

Try looking for community and neighbors somewhere other than the internet.

I kind of like the anonymity since there are so many assholes out there. There are advantages to both. I just put up with the racists, the vulgar stuff, etc. I LMAO at some of this.

Well, I just tried nextdoor.com. You have to sign up first, identifying your name, address, email, describing your neighborhood, identifying how many neighbors would be willing to recruit, etc. You can't even browse without doing this. No thanks.

Just tried to get past the second screen. The additional information is NOT optional (came back highlighted in red for required input). Maybe you know something that I don't.

FYI If you're looking for serious discussions and users who care about important issues, head over to the Off-Topic forum. That's where the mature topics are engaged by people who show respect and are constructive. It's great example of a helpful, enlightening online community.

I think he wants one of the more PC forums like city-data where the racists hide behind discussion of things like school test scores and use terms like "transitioning neighborhoods" instead of just coming right out and saying spics and niggers.

Oh, well, then he can have at pretty much the ENTIRE rest of the Internet where we speak in euphemisms to not have to speak the plain ugly truth.

Besides, how many conversations are we going to have about neighborhoods. Seems the only one on this website that gets any traction is Vienna for some reason. Sure Reston or Burke once in a while, but that's about it.

How about having the ability to mention someone of color without referring to them as "mud people"? Being able to discuss the Springfield Town Center without having to jump to the "MS-13" concept? Realizing that not every hispanic person is illegal? Have people offer differing opinions without resulting to calling them a faggot? Understanding that minorities are not inferior? And that women are not whores and have a higher purpose than just sex?

Just a few thoughts...

But niggers gotta nig... we just call then on it,

Springfield Mall was destroyed by the presence of gang activity, and Springfield Town Center will soon be over run by the same utes.
Most Hispanics are illegal.
Minorities are not what built this country, but they're doing all they can to destroy it.

From wiki:

Business model

Nextdoor is currently venture capital funded.[5] Nextdoor also hopes to facilitate exchange of goods and services in a manner similar to Craigslist. They believe, however, that users will be more comfortable trusting other verified users than they would trusting sellers on Craigslist.[6] Recommendations of area resources are also provided. Chenda Ngak of CBS News has compared the site to a "College Bulletin Board".[2]

Before registering an account, prospective users verify their home address. Verification methods include providing a credit card or confirming a code mailed or phoned to the prospective user. Nextdoor provides registered users with a list of neighbors who have also registered (users are required to provide their real name).[2] Nextdoor allows users to see which nearby residents are registered on the site, and to send postcards advertising the site to non-registered neighbors.[7] Nick Wingfield of The New York Times worried that the site may "be used to publicly shame" neighbors or lead to "snarky messages" between residents. Nextdoor leadership has maintained that the presence of real names helps maintain civil behavior among users.[8]

Nextdoor was co-founded by Nirav Tolia, who based the company in San Francisco, California.[9] Tolia had previously helped start Epinions. Early investors include Benchmark Capital, Shasta Ventures, and Rich Barton. As of October 2011, Nextdoor had 22 employees.[4] In July 2012, NextDoor raised $18.6M in venture capital funding.[10] Dan Clancy (ex Google) joined Nextdoor in February 2014.

The CEO of Nextdoor, a social network designed to help neighbors connect with each other and police, was charged Wednesday with felony hit-and-run for allegedly fleeing a crash on Highway 101 in Brisbane that left a woman injured.

Nirav Tolia, 42, is also facing a civil lawsuit accusing him of negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress in the crash last year that injured Patrice Motley of San Francisco.

"It's ironic that the CEO of a company that is holding itself out as trying to promote neighborliness, crime watch and things like that flees the scene of an accident that he caused and doesn't bother to call 911 or stay around to exchange information or see if he caused any injuries," said Motley's attorney, Joseph Brent.

Tolia is to appear May 29 in San Mateo County Superior Court in the criminal matter. He has not responded to the civil suit, which was filed Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court and seeks unspecified damages.

I didn't see anywhere that was disclosed. I find that incredibly intrusive.

Question:

Is it OK to call a "person of color" a "colored person"?

I ask this because just the other day I exclaimed, "Oh, look, there's a colored person, and was promptly chastised by a hysterical co-worker who screamed, "How dare you call that man a colored person. He is a person of color, you racist homophobic misogynist pig!"

Looks like a good idea, however on home page, its asks for your street address and email address in same place, more information than I care sharing on a public forum and what does company running the form do with your private information. If it only asked your neighborhood or community name and zip code, I would be more open to using it. I guess you can put in another address in your neighborhood and use a junk email address, but I have not read their terms of service about that, nor their privacy policy I will keep it bookmarked until time permits for me to research that more. I do see at the bottom of their home page, it is endorsed by major media and other outlets. Like anything in life before sharing your personal info, need to take to research it. I know my parents signed up for AARP, and opened themselves to a huge slew of time consuming postal junk mail.

I agree there is bad stuff posted on FU, some places and Internet services have it blocked, knowing there is a warning about it using a Verizon Wireless smartphone, but doing best to ignore the bad stuff, but I have learned good things about my community and county in Fairfax Underground that the mainstream media ignores or at best hidden in their websites, as not the stories that increase their advertising revenue. FU definitely not the site you want to have your young children visit and in some cases your teens. As with other sites without anonymity, I try to post here what is respectful of others, but admittedly none of us are perfect and hold our biases or cultural or religious beliefs, on biases rightly because of past experiences where especially our safety or health threatened or wrongly. Each of us has likes and dislikes, we are each different, some like vegetables, some like meat.

If it's such a lame joke, why do liberals call black people, people of color? Is sounds so fake. Like a person trying hard to convince others that he IS NOT A RACIST. Almost like a nervous reaction.

The worst joke is when they refer to blacks in Europe as African Americans. hahahahahaha!

Here's an idea. Call black people, black people. Odd, I know, but give it a try.
