It seems to me from listening (however I quit a while ago) that it was quickly clear it was a fatality (hence no sirens/not a rescue effort), happened behind the Kohls area but b/c it was an Amtrak going eastbound (probably fast) and they don't have a planned stop at Burke Centre VRE, they stopped at Burke Station where someone (not the conductor) had an anxiety attack (not a heart attack).

They also made mention to the dispatcher to be on the lookout for a call from someone reporting a teen missing in the area and later got a call from dispatch that seemed to be what they were waiting for but asked to take that info offline (by phone or text). Now the news has arrived.

Either way, a pretty terrible day for a bunch of people.

Not a funny situation but I did laugh at that lol

In that area, yeah, it wouldn't be so crazy for people to cross in the day. There are paths all over and people cross all the time for lots of reasons. The girl that was hit near target a while back was going over a path that I've pushed a stroller over. It's a 100 yard cut through from the VRE to the target or by road, almost a mile walk. So I know it's trespassing but it's not terribly difficult to do it safely during the day. At night in the other hand, I'd call it unusual.

And yeah, I hope it's not this girl and am personally hoping its a 99 year old hobo, the leader of isis or maybe even...it is the guy a couple posts up.

I happened to be right in that area when the rescue team was coming. There were several firetrucks, a couple of ambulances and several police cars, plus a helicopter overhead. they were at the dead end of sideburn near bonnie brae elementary school. it was pretty crazy and obviously tragic. gosh i pray it isn't the young girl you are talking about. her family has had enough tragedy. she lives near me as well.

I agree that it seems like headphones wouldn't block out the rumble of an train, but the evidence doesn't seem to bear that out. A quick google search showed 4 teen deaths by train just this year so far on the first page of results.

Its the truth. I hated HS for the most part. I survived more than anything. I had a great time in College like night and day. Definitely hang in there and dont buy the bs about HS being all that. This is a tragic accident. She probably never heard the train coming. Trains should have some sort of warning device to let people know they're approaching. Maybe a horn or something. Oh well, at least there was no gun involved, or someone could've gotten hurt!

I haven't talked to her since 1st grade, and I remember her being kind of mean to me, but for some reason this just messed me up. It could have been one of my friends, too. It could have been any one of the people I love, who just one day up and decided to walk in front of a train. The one thing I think that anyone who hears about this can learn is that you need to think about all those things you need to do in life but think you'll never get around to doing, and do them. Well put. I wish I could 'Wonderful Life' kids and show them how valuable they truly are to the people around them and people they will meet in the future -- it's something most won't understand because they temporarily inhabit a world that is ruled by competition, artificial barriers, facades, etc. That changes, rapidly.

As someone who lost their mother too soon -- although not quite as young as Brooke -- it hurts me to think about the pain that caused her. Dealing with that just plain sucks and you have to just remember that your Mom would want you to 1) try to make the most of the time you have and 2) hopefully you'll meet again in a place far better than this. God Bless her, her family and friends.

There are a number of posts here that are clearly cyberbullying and one that is an individual seeking child pornography. If these bother you, report them. Do this by taking a screenshot of offending posts and reporting them to your school staff. There are laws against cyberbullying and it is not difficult for the police to track down ip addresses and identify the bullys (they think they are anonymous, they are misktaken). Do not feed the trolls. They post terrible things because they want to hurt you. Ignore their posts, any response just encourages them.
