No, but I saw the police helicopter circling and flying low for the longest time. Then I heard some sirens in the distance.

Fatal Crash in Springfield
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, a pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Millwood Drive. The pedestrian, a 58-year-old, Springfield woman, was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Old Keen Mill Road. A 2007 Nissan Murano, driven by a 56-year-old Springfield man, was traveling westbound on Old Keene Mill Road. The initial investigation indicated that the pedestrian stepped in front of the Nissan and was hit.

The pedestrian was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later. Next of kin has not been notified.

The driver of the Nissan was also transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in non life-threatening condition.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit continue their investigation.

This is the eighth fatal crash in Fairfax County this year; the third involving a pedestrian.

Pedestrian safety is a high priority of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. For information about the Fairfax County Pedestrian Program, go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/pedestrian/.

There's something about those Muranos....if one is not already a fucking asshole, one turns into a fucking asshole as soon as they sit down in one.

You might not be familiar with the location of the accident. It's a high traffic, 45 mph zone with poor visiblity, and frequent jay walking. The type of vehicle had little to do with it. The people that cross there have been getting more and more careless of late, I'm just surprised it's taken this long for someone to be killed.

It's the truth, I can't count how many jay walkers and close calls I've seen at that intersection in the past 20 years.

I have worked with the woman (teacher) that was hit and killed. She was a lovely person. Those that knew her adored her.

I unfortunately came upon this accident right after it happened. People rushed to this woman's aid. It took over 15 mins. from the time I called the accident in (I was not the first 911 call either) for the ambulance to arrive. The fire station is less than one mile from the accident scene.

This stretch of road is very dangerous; poor lighting and cars traveling well over the speed limit.

On Sunday Febuary 13th 2012 they blocked Keene Mill rd and were diverting people onto hillside. There was a section of cars that was stuck in between the incident that happened at the next intersection at the top of the hill and they were all backing up and turning around. Does anyone know what happened?
