A Nebraska school district has instructed its teachers to stop referring to students by “gendered expressions” such as “boys and girls,” and use “gender inclusive” ones such as “purple penguins” instead.
“Don’t use phrases such as ‘boys and girls,’ ‘you guys,’ ‘ladies and gentlemen,’ and similarly gendered expressions to get kids’ attention,” instructs a training document given to middle-school teachers at the Lincoln Public Schools.
“Create classroom names and then ask all of the ‘purple penguins’ to meet on the rug,” it advises.

School Superintendent's public statement is true: the district is not "mandating" this. What he left out is that (a) the reports are true that this material was given to the teachers (b) it is a "suggestion" from the school administration.
So, teachers don't have to abide by this non-mandating instruction from their bosses, but they will certainly be watched to see if they follow it or not.
Typical liberal lying and double speak.

Apparently, the teachers themselves were looking for some direction on this sensitive issue. Transgendered people are not going away, no matter how uncomfortable they make you (or me, for that matter). The suicide rate is disturbingly high among gay teens; I can only imagine what it might be for the transgendered. Would it really kill you people to show some compassion and understanding?

Sounds like Joel has distributed this material to everyone, not just a few members of his staff.
Joel also said "We’re doing the right thing.”, which means you better get in line with this absurd transgender policy or you will be doing the "wrong" thing.

Transvestite is an outdated term that refers to men who dress as women.Transgender refers to individuals that believe their true gender to be different than the gender assigned to them at birth due to genitalia. Put another way, they feel they are trapped in the body of the opposite gender. The term includes both biological males and biological females. Often times, transgender individuals will take hormones (testosterone or estrogen) to help their bodies develop into the gender they feel they really are. What has been occurring more recently is young children are living as the opposite gender and the schools are having to adapt.
