Police Protection Fund at it again
Posted by: JayBee ()
Date: March 17, 2009 11:31PM

I got another annoying call from the PPF tonight. If you get these calls, be sure to remind them of the $450,000 Consent Judgement against them courtesy the state of Missouri. Apparently so many Missourians complained about their tactics, they were sued by the Attorney General of Missouri and were prohibited from calling any Missourian for the next two years.

Ask them about their 990 form that they filed with the IRS that says that they brought in 6.887 million and only spent $50,000 to pay widowed police officers wives in 2007. Meanwhile their top executive was paid over $110,000 and one board member got $129,000.

Got any links to those? I've known these deals were scams for years but it's always nice to verify and be able to dissuade the oldsters I know to stay away from these conniving bastards.

The telemarketers for these and the warranty scams are sometimes short-time hires who don't know the full depth of deceit in practice. When I get these rare calls on my cell, I'm usually nicer than I should be and try to tell them that their boss is a con artist and they should really do something better with their life.

Hmm I stole a police protective fund sticker from a guy a few years ago, should I stop displaying it on my car like I made a donation?

you are less likely to get a ticket if you have it displayed, so leave it on.

The trick today is supposed to be one of those thin blue lines. I didn't lnow what they were for years, but a buddy who has one ( and a brother in law in LE) who says he get's of with warnings all the time.

If it's not tax deductible it's not worthy of a donation.

Funny, I was told if you have a Blue Line sticker, and you have no family in law enforcement, it's a guaranteed ticket.

That's my thought too. I might get one if it really helped but if I have to tell a lie when I get pulled over ("My uncle is on Oklahoma Highway Patrol!") I'd feel like a jackass.

The "thin blue line" is a thin blue line on a black background and represents the "thin blue line" that is the small number of those who care (cops) protecting the rst of the world from mob rules.

I saw these things for a few years I thought these things were some gay pride or something weird political that came out of DC or NY. A few years ago a buddy of mine showed up with one and I asked what the heck it was.

Don't we give those guys enough money through speed cams/traps? all they do is take our money. see how quick I hang up on a cop asking for more money. Those are the times we live in

There are paid solicitor not cops. The cops don't make the calls so feel free to do what I do everytime a paid solicitor calls... Interupt them immediately and say "no, thanks" and hang up.

received the PPF in the mail yesterday. I always had a feeling it was a scam. Thanks for the warning. I can find better ways to spend my hard earned money than making the wealthy wealthier.

I got a call yesterday for one of the "charity clothes collector" folks.

What was interesting about this - enough that I actually noticed the unusual wording - was the caller identified himself as "...a for-profit [something like "solicitor"] for Purple Heart". Purple Heart, of course, is not-for-profit. I just thought the new-to-me revelation that the actual solicitors work for a for-profit company was interesting.

Is there a new law on the books or something that required this?

Ask them if you can report a case of harrassment to them, ie some asshole solicitor keeps calling and bothering you.

I tell them I never give money over the phone and ask to be taken off whatever list I am on.

Once in college gave a donation over the phone and then every charity on the planet was calling me. Bastards!

I thought if you donate, you get one of those Police Support stickers. If you put it on your rear window, it will get you out of ticket. Right?

I got a thin blue line sticker in the mail with my state registration a couple years back. Seems kind of useless. But I always laugh when I see people driving like that thin blue line makes them invisible to cops.
