Are you sure she just doesn't want some attention? After seeing how much attention Hannah has gotten I feel like a lot of people will suddenly go "missing"

Hopefully this isn't related to the stoppage of rail traffic north of Manassas Park this afternoon.

Are you completely heartless? Please ask yourself why you would make this kind of a comment. Are you lacking in attention yourself? Something is not right with you and I hope you can get some help.

The Virginia Railway Express’s Manassas Line tracks are shut down south of Burke Center while police investigate a death this morning.

A Fairfax County police spokeswoman said that police do not suspect foul play at this time, but officers said that the investigation, which according to a dispatcher began about 11 a.m., would likely last through the end of the evening rush hour.

Buses will bring riders who need to travel past Burke Center to the three remaining stops on the Manassas Line. When the 327 train arrived at Burke Center about 4:40 p.m., the railway said that two buses were available to ferry riders, and six more were on their way to the station.

The VRE said that passengers who plan to have others pick them up at the station may want to disembark at an earlier stop, since Burke Center’s parking lot will be unusually crowded today.

Trains that were south of Burke Center when police asked the VRE to shut down the tracks at about 2:30 p.m. could not return to the beginning of the line at Union Station. Therefore,VRE canceled the trains that normally depart from Union Station at 4:25 and 6:10. The 5:05, 5:30, and 6:50 trains from Union Station were scheduled to depart as usual.

VRE riders can also use their tickets or passes to take the Metro today.

The VRE and police officers in Fairfax City and Fairfax County declined to provide information about the death that caused the tracks to close. A county police dispatcher said that “it’s going to be a long-running incident,” and a VRE spokesman said “it’s a safe bet that it’ll go through rush hour.”

Even though you seem to have a grasp of social media, I'm sure you haven't beat, pardon the pun, your 30 second premature problem, stud, or conquered your illiterate, crude, and pig like ways of expressing yourself- god how awful you must stink and I bet your oral hygiene would send any first world dentist running for the hills. Yeah, doesn't seem to have hit the news yet. Hyper-local (Patch, Fairfax Times, etc) news outlets usually work 9-5 and this broke about 8pm. I wouldn't expect to see anything until tomorrow.

But she's a friend-of-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend on Facebook, and I'm hearing it from multiple sources. I believe it.

Her parents, sister, friends, and even total strangers are now grieving her loss. She did not go missing for attention, and stop posting sexual comments. The community is grieving.

Why would someone as attractive and seemingly popular as this girl get bullied and by who?

Maybe Im too old to understand, but this whole bullying thing is like a foreign language to me. I just dont get it. We had bullys when I was in school and if you stood up to them JUST ONCE they would never bother you again because most of them were cowards.

From what I can tell, a girl named Cara died back in May, committing suicide because she was bullied over being a fan of a particular band. That band's community kind of rallied around her. Now they're seeing the same hastag they used applied to Cara Golias and reacting to the death of the other girl in May.

I think people are just assuming it's bullying, none of her close friends are tweeting anything about bullying. Also that's easier said than done with the standing up to others part for some people.

It's not clear that Cara Golias was bullied. But in any case, bullies victimize because of their own problems, and they victimize whoever will let them get away with it, to feel better about themselves. It's not unlike domestic abuse. They learn how to tell who will not fight back and pick on them to feel better about themselves, to give themselves a sense of power, often because they feel powerless due to their family situation.

Sad. Sick. Wrong. But...reality.

Youre an asshole and you dont know what youre talking about so STFU

First of all, a 16 yr old girl isnt going to have any life insurance.

Insurance has a waiting period for suicide to prevent people from buying a policy and then offing themselves. Genrally 2 years I think.

Plus 1.

As someone who lost a brother to suicide who was a Woodson grad years ago (not that necessarily answers the trend, but worth mentioning) and also a close friend, anytime I hear about someone in such a dark, lonely place that does this, I can only imagine 4 things that would exacerbate such a sad viewpoint on life.

- Broken immediate family, either by divorce or death while victim is a teen;

- Drug use combined with no one to do drugs with (you may laugh, but drugs eventually lead to withdrawal from others, for better or worse. Not talking about weed here either, typically the 1st tier stuff).

- The above is much worse if you put all of your eggs into a relationship basket and this person leaves you while you are in this state of mind. You've already reached the point where your social network is cut off, but are too underdeveloped when it comes to confidence to rebuild. This is usually the case whether or not drugs are involved. Relationships are isolating and should be reserved for folks that have "lived" life.

- Social media. Yes, things said either on Facebook, Twitter, here, it doesn't really matter, can affect the undeveloped mind. Most teens are overwhelmed with societal pressures to conform to whatever standards are laid out in front of them; either by parents, teachers, friends, or even coaches. Failure to conform creates an internal feeling of failure, which is an irrational way to think. Not everyone can be the next superstar athlete or popular kid, and that's ok. It's best to love who you are, appreciate what you have now, and quit worrying about what others think of you because, unless you are a public figure, it doesn't really matter. The only exception is if the victim if overly vain or narcissistic.

RIP girl. As a father of a beautiful 2 year old daughter, I will try my best to let her not go down that path my little brother did.

I met Cara Golias about 7 months ago, along with her family. They are incredibly sweet people and do not deserve to be going through this. This is the worst thing that can happen to a family. You people need to have some respect and stop bullying on this feed. After all, if Cara really did commit suicide after being bullied, you all are just adding to the problem. Its people like a lot of you that make me sick.

Please keep that family in your prayers, this is a rough time for everyone.

She goes missing on Sunday, no one has heard from her since.

She is then broadcasted as missing and then literally minutes later jumps in front of a train..?

Why so much time between the missing and the death and why after its made public did she kill herself?

Fairfax County Public Schools has "lost" two young girls in the past week. One death is still unconfirmed (Clark of South Lakes High School), and the other has a cause of death that has not been released (Golias of Fairfax High).
I feel as though students and adults alike are putting too much faith in social media, and spreading rumors of these deaths, portraying them both to be suicides, when that has not been confirmed for either case.

Another thing about the deaths(?) of these two girls -- is anyone surprised that the white, "popular" girl gets WAY more publicity than the PoC (person of color), perhaps less-popular girl?

Not sure if the lack of publicity surrounding Clark's death is out of respect for the family or just because people don't care as much unless a young girl (who should not be sexualized by older people, in the first place, as seen on this thread) is "sexy" or "hot."

To be perfectly honest, anyone who comes to FU to grieve a death or looking for compassion has a few screws loose. It's not like this is the first time this has happened. Maybe you people should revert back to old days and pick up a phone and call someone or, God forbid, speak to someone in person if you remember how.

I agree. I come here for information, not grieving. But some people don't know this place, so I'm trying to help them not get offended and pissed off when they *are* grieving.

You understand that their sole objective is to piss you off right?

They win/you lose by acknowledging it.

You win/they lose by ignoring it.

Thus is the game.

I am done with all of these hate comments, made up stories and the dehumanization of Cara. You all may find it hilarious and "Oh lets talk shit about this girl." NO. STFU. AND IF YOU HAVE NOTHING INTELLIGENT TO SAY OR YOUR NOT PAYING HER RESPECTS THEN HIT THE DAMN ROAD. Who cares how she died. Its how she lived. How she is now. That shes in a better place. Shes with GOD. Let her be and let her hear the prayers of her loved ones. Thank you.

Again, Tyra, don't respond to it. You sound like a nice and good person. Don't get dragged into this. Fairfax Underground has a certain number of terrible people here. You won't cahnge them. Just ignore them, because responding only encourages them.

Was she bullied too? ? What the heck is wrong with the kids?? Maybe some of these assholes doing to bullying need to get a nice strong ass kicking?? I know if I was at Fairfax the kids doing this would be hurting right now....and in the hospital..

Was she being molested by a male relative? That is sadly all too common a reason for suicides among girls.

RIP, I wonder what would drive such a pretty girl to kill herself.

Most of the tweets are pointing towards suicide, and something about a one direction fandom. A couple are saying she was just lost in the woods.. I doubt that though.

That's a possibility if she was maybe tripping on some acid, dmt, shrooms, or other drugs.

WOW! You really showed your level of intellect with that one! Statistically speaking, IF it were a homicide... It's more likely to be a white male! But thanks for playing, loser!

Police have confirmed that the body found was that of Cara. Foul play has been ruled out, which leads me to believe this was either an obvious suicide, or clearly an accident, and that they have evidence to support it. (eg. a note she left. or a witness account of the train conductor seeing her running across the bridge or trying to get off the tracks.)

Fairfax City Teen Found Deceased

Sully Police District – Fairfax County Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Cara Lynn Golias,16 of Fairfax City. After an extensive search, Golias was found near the railroad bridge trestle in the 13200 block of Yates Ford Road in the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park at around 1 p.m. on Monday, September 29.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, however detectives do not suspect any criminal activity nor public safety threat involved.

I wouldn't rule out that a train done snucked up on her. WUSA is also reporting that she was found near the trestle, presumably the one over Bull Run and near the golf course.

If you've ever tried to cross there, DON'T. There's no where to run if you get caught in the middle.

Unfortunately DC is all about keeping up with the Jones and kids with social media has unintended consequences. Parents, talk to your kids, don't put them on a pedestal. Kids, talk to your parents about the issues that bother you. Communication is a lost form and we all hide behind it with social media.

What "statistics" do you look at? FBI crime statistics say black males are not only more likely to be the perpetrator of a murder but also the victim. So sad what the community is doing to themselves.

I've been under that trestle a hundred times and on it (accidentally) once. It is much longer than it looks, completely open between the tracks (so you can't run), and the water below is fairly shallow (so jumping is not really an option...some kids tried that and one broke their back). If she was on the trestle and either unwilling or unable to move, there is little she could have done to escape the train.

Also consider this: If she left Manassas Park Middle School and headed east (some said for Hemlock Park) the path of least resistance is along the tracks. She would have had to cross the trestle.

Fire/Rescue staging area was at the golf course, and rail traffic was halted because they also had to cross the trestle to get the scene.

A northbound train could have come up behind her and not even see her because of limited sight distance or the engineer and conductor weren't paying 100% attention. Were there northbound trains on that section of track that on early Sunday afternoon? I don't know, but don't jump to the conclusion that it was suicide.

It certainly doesn't help that the there are two Caras under the hashtag #RIPCara. One was a One Direction fan who took her own life back in May, the other is Cara Golias.

A 6 ft, thin beautiful girl in my high school committed suicide years ago. Guys and girls alike didn't treat her very well. She was a very sweet and sensitive girl. Maybe would of been better off modeling in NYC than in high school with a bunch of jealous, nasty jerks.

Every teenager I see is wearing headphones or ear buds these days. It seems they cant go 5 minutes without listening to their dopey music. Everything teenagers do nowadays is designed to tune out the real world. We raised a generation of social media misfits. I have seen multiple teens at restaurants sitting at a table and every one of them is obsessed with their smart phone instead of each other. Its really sad to watch.

Earbuds can't block out a train whistle and the vibrations that the train itself causes. Someone tried to use that excuse on here a while back to defend a girl who died in a similar fashion, further up the tracks. Turns out she just was retahded.
