FIOS

I know some verizon fios guys have been on this board in the past.

Any idea when FIOS will be available in the Fox Mill area?
Or, is there any kind of rollout schedule we can take a peek at?

i called verison myself about FIOS and the bottom line is that they dont know when it will be in certain areas. i guess they just use a spinner to decide where to work next. what they did tell me is that when it comes to your area, there will be commecials galore for it on tv.

My buddy just a few miles away has had FIOS for almost a year now.
I've drawn up several plans on how to kill him and assume his identity so that I can move into his place and abscond his bandwidth.
Unfortunately, my plot is always foiled by some do goodin' kids in a vw bus.....

Why not just set up a few wifi routers with hidden ssid's, and then volunteer to watch his house when he goes on vacation, and when you're over, hard wire them to his net through the walls, stash away the routers where he won't look, and buy the house next door so you can set up a leach lan? Then run 15-20 torrents at a time, per pc, as well as p2p and ftp. Make sure you max that shit.

Of course if you bought the house next door you could probably just get your own damned fios.

They already drive the Verizon Fios H3 around the herndon/reston area every weekend. The most annoying advertising they do though, is deliver all of their service lineup ads via FedEx-ground. It's to make you think you received something important, you open the letter mailer and BAM... an add for their TV/PVR service.... What a waste of money. When it is available in your neighborhood, they will put door tags on your house informing you. It took them 4 months to make it available, even after they world war II trenched my back yard to install the lines.

I remember reading something online that they had a region rollout scheduled. They were trying to hit north of the toll road first, then western Fairfax, then beltway area. I've never seen any type of schedule for it though. I also doubt it's true, as I believe it's available in falls church now.

But kill me? Just because I have a fiber optic pipe of golden porn/music/movie filled bliss into my house?? Just because I average 11.2 megabits per second??? That's not friendly.

I have had FiOS for at least a year now and their TV service for 6 months. I have EVERY possible pay channel available and I am still saving 30 bucks a month over COX where I had only HBO and Showtime. I mean I have at least 50+ pay channels and a lot of ones COX or Comcast dont even carry. They will not be advertising this stuff on TV anytime soon either. They are SWAMPED getting people hooked in the areas they do have it. I moved and they now offer the $130 15Mbps down / % Mbps up for 55 bucks if you sign up for a year. Let me tell ya, it is the frickin BOMB!

I don't want to do anything illegal like possess explosives, I just want to download torrents as quickly as possible. That 1080i porn comes in huge files.

I live in a condensed little isolated neighborhood with about 60 homes, that they fios'd up 2 months ago.
It took them damn near 8 months since they first began digging to make fios officially available.
Now I'm not so sure its worth it. I checked out my neighbor who signed up immediately, and he's paying the $55/month connection, and his dowload speeds are like 600kb/s - 1mb/s compared to my simple dsl speeds of 150-400kb/s.
That's a nice increase, but it's not that great. The TV service might be good, but I don't watch TV.

600k to 1mb?
Thats ridiculously slow for fiber. Cox gets me ~5mb consistent at the moment, except for when it completely craps the bed, which is more and more often as of late.

Your neighbor should contact the FIOS service techs to see where the problem is - obviously, there is one with speeds like that.

One of my relatives tried to order DSL a few years back however, they were at the Central Office Boundary (too far away). They went on to order a Cable modem and had it hooked up to their new computer - sort of... The "cable tech handed me about 50 ft. of coax advising me to run the line myself, as it was "custom work." After a few calls, we got an "expert" out to connect the line to the cable splitter.

For the time they had the cable modem, it was slow and sometimes seemed to "lock up" in the midst of surfing the internet. Re-setting the (power) to the modem generally worked however, speeds were still much slower than my DSL.
Complaints to the cable company all were a waste - a new computer is needed, trouble is your machine.

In early 2006, I heard the Central Office for their area was going to get Verizon TV along with the FIOS services - a line by line comparison showed a savings of at least $2.00 per month over what was had before. However, as mentioned above, FIOS TV has SO MANY more stations to watch!

Also, that slow computer runs so fast now - nothing else was changed aside from going from the cable modem to FIOS 5MB svc. Hmmm... I think the trouble was on the cable company's end :(

i dont understand what is taking them so long. seriously, if you wanted to steal all of cox's customers, just pay a huge contractor to get all the fiber installed fast and launch a MASSIVE commercial campain on Cox cable for a while.

im am getting completely screwed as i dont even get the channels i want on Cox because "you only get the digital tier" and they are all on the analog tier. what a surprise, all the channel worth watching are on the analog teir and i MUST pay a LOT MORE to get the analog tier and i cant drop the digital tier. fucking rat bastards.

That's weird...usually the analog tier is included with the digital tier. They don't sell the digital tier separately that I know of.

What happens when you plug the cable directly into your cable-ready TV and start flipping through channels? Unless they're filtering out the analog channels (possible but doubtful), you'll get them.

i think i got them backwards. i get analog and not digital. in anycase, they are screwing me simply because they can.

Go back to feeding chickens and milking cows in W. VA, Gravis.
You can go marry your own cousin and/or sister over yonder, which should make you happy with regards to your outlook on people outside your own gene pool.

How you are able to operate anything beyond a plow is surprising enough, let alone determine the differences between analog from digital.

I find it funny you should make a joke about him only being able to operate a plow...

I bet you never have and would fuck it up for weeks on end until someone showed you how to do it correctly.

So until you have actually operated a field plow, shut the fuck up and go back to masturbating to kid porn, you lurker coward.

In all earnesty, I have never professed any expertise in plowing. Yet, you have risen to the cause of accusing me on my lack of experience on such a matter, such being a one-sided argument. Such being a foolish cause for an argument.

On the same subject of expertise, may it please you to know that I need not one to declare that your reading comprehension is quite lacking.

On the relevantly different subject of plowing, if you yourself--someone acutely sensitive to plow culture and the necessity of a proper plowing instructor--could teach me anything on plowing, I'd be much obliged, as I know nothing about it, being the urbanely-reared, metropolitan individual that I am.

Gravis on the other hand is an inward-looking buffoon trying to live in a diverse metropolitan area, while bemoaning the lack of uniformity among the residents. I suggested he take to the plowing areas of the world which are less densely populated. There he may find less of the types of people which seem to bring harm to Gravis' mental health.

I do love all the morons who post here and make me feel like a genius in camparison.

Gravis is a software guy.

The difference between analog and digital is a hardware problem.

portable record player = awesome idea

it could be like a backpack, a record storage compartment in the back side and some mind of laptop cd tray style- record playing device. Hold the record in a solid position and use a specially attached stylus and cartridge.

I think it would be smart to get it everywhere ASAP, esp in those communities that have their cable done through independant companies via the HOA. They blow ass, and would be GLAD to pay someone to not pay internet to the same fuck ups they are contracted to for 30+ years for cable.

There is a record player (dunno if they're still made) which uses a laser to track the grooves.

A laser pickup would lend itself well to portability, I think.

As far as digital cable goes, I don't have it...I don't watch that much TV and what I do watch is on analog. I did have it at one point but all I really used it for was the Music Choice channels and when I got Sirius I decided that I could get my 80s music fix off of Sirius :)
