She was a senior. There was also a suicide of a rising senior at Marshall over the summer.

At least, it wasn't that dreaded lung disease.

How is this a suicide? There have been no reports as to the nature of the death. Regardless my prayers are with her family and friends. God bless you all...

Emma Clark, a South Lakes senior, was tragically and definitely lost to suicide. However, it is (very understandably) just not being broadcast by the family in their remembrance of her.

I'm not sure that you know how FCPS and FFXCO Police report on deaths of people, but when it is a suicide they do not come right out and say that to protect/respect the families involved. It truly is no ones business how this child died, she's gone and now the dealing with the aftermath has to begin. For the school, community and more importantly her family

Just because an idiot up above says it was a suicide does not make it so. Is it more likely at her age that it was? Yes, but until it is confirmed, please people do not assume anything. That makes it worse for the family and friends for total strangers assuming their daughter committed suicide if that were not the case. I had a friend who dropped dead years ago at the age of 21 from a heart defect that the Drs never found. She was a track runner and ate well, was in perfect health and then within 2 seconds she was dead...that was not a suicide and this young girls death may not be either. Lets wait to see if the official death gets reported before listening to someone who assumes and has no problem spewing their own thoughts as fact on here.. respect for her family would be nice, no matter how she died. I pray for her family and friends as well as school mates as I know at this young age, nobody ever thinks it will happen. So sad for everyone who knew her.

I cannot imagine the pain that is being felt by her family and friends...I am so sorry for your loss....More (realistic) programs for depression and bullying need to put in place or another tragedy like this will happen again....The pressure of these school assisted programs deter actual sufferers from partaking...I realize there are guidelines, but no rule should equal a death...School is supposed to make young people more realized people....and the select few who get to have that experience are lucky. Anyone who bullied Emma should feel more than bad...South Lakes High School should feel very bad...because you're not doing your job....People are going to die....but as someone who went to south lakes, I knew before the end of the first quarter of classes that I hated it and wanted to die....but there was no resource for me.... I knew Emma....and I wish something or someone could've stopped this from happening...I miss you and so does everyone else Emma.

The mental health services in NOVA suck.

Mobile crisis unit has ONE vehicle. Yes, one for 1.1 million residents. But we have 90 fucking turf fields.

Until taxpayers start caring about this neglected system, more kids will die.

Everyone is do quick to blame the school system. this is the first suicide at South Lakes in quite some time. Tragic what happened, but more than likely a mental health issue. And let's not forget to look at the home life, in a lot of cases that is the case instead of the schooling.

I cannot comment if this was about bullying but I do know from my own experience SLHS admin could care less about bullying, its a very blame the bullied mentality. the teachers are better but od not go see your admin or counselor.

Not surprised it happened in SL. That place has black energy all around it, a very bad place. I would home school before I ever sent my kid there. I went there years ago, I know how that place really is.

If she was depressed, there likely could have been something behind it. Whether it be at school or home. I am not blaming the parents for this, nor suggesting this is the case, but we can't rule out her home life didn't trigger the incident and we are quick to blame the school, where a suicide hasn't happened in recent memory.

I agree how can you blame the parents? Do you really think that they would have let their precious daughter die? How utterly ridiculous and heartless that you can make such a comment. There has been mention of some bullying I believe some not so pleasant girls may not have helped. For you to blame the parents is unforgivable. Clearly you don't have children. Both school and teenage years are difficult SLHS is not a bad school FCPS system needs to do more to help their students through these times. Such a stigma is put on mental health or not fitting in that is a lot for anyone to deal with.

I pray for Emma's family snd their sweet angel Emma in heaven. To all you idiots that want to blame them maybe you should walk in their shoes first!!

Funeral -


Family and friends will gather in Reston Wednesday to say goodbye to South Lakes High senior Emma Bailey Clark who died unexpectedly last week, on Wednesday. Friends and acquaintances took to social media after news of her death spread, using the hash tag #RIPEmma and #SeahawkStrong on Twitter to express their feelings and support. Students also wore green Friday to honor Emma and gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. The funeral home is located at 721 Elden St.

Emma’s funeral will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston. The church is located at 11900 Lawyers Road. Rev. Thomas E. Murphy, Pastor, will officiate.

Emma had just turned 17 earlier this month, on Sept. 12. She is survived by her parents, Christine Elizabeth and Leonard Andrew Clark; her maternal grandparents Kathleen and Michael Lovell and Paul and Katherine Scullion; her beloved brothers Andrew (Amanda), Andrew, Dylan and Ethan; her devoted sister Laura; her nephew Bode Michael; her niece Marley Lynn and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Emma Clark’s obituary from Adams-Green reads:

She was a beautiful young lady, inside and out, who had a love for her family that exceeded all. A daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, aunt and cousin, all of which she was proud to be. A typical teenager, she loved her softball, her music, her sweatshirts and yoga pants, her dogs and, most of all, being with her friends.

Do you really know how that place is now? After the whole renovation the entire place changed. people started to see the school differently and the whole "south lakes is ghetto" mentality has completely disappeared. SL has a great energy and bond between everyone (#seahawkstrong) everyone cares about every student in that building.
