Reston Rank #10 on Money Magazines Top 50 Best Places to Live

Reston was the first modern planned community in the country, and the vision of its founder (who still lives there) has held up beautifully. The city is made up of five woodsy “villages,” which encompass a range of lakes, pools, shopping areas, golf courses, and more.

Fifty-five miles of paths wind through these communities, ensuring that most homes are within a half-mile walk of a village center. The city’s de facto downtown is the lively if generic Reston Town Center mall, which has the usual assortment of shops and eateries, plus a pavilion that hosts concerts and, in winter, ice-skating.

The headquarters of ComScore and Rolls-Royce North America are also located in Town Center, along with a Google office. Traffic in the area can be brutal, but things are looking up for folks who don’t work in town: An extension of the D.C. Metro opened in July, and it whisks Restonians to the center of Washington in a speedy 40 minutes.

look on google maps, you see rich luxury urban sprawl by gov workers all across america - ie esp in CA and colorado

look closer to see the playgrounds for the rich, casinos etc. you'll need a plane

----------------------
they are the worst places to live if you aren't rich and politically connected

many rich people are extremely cheap and treat others like dirt. and the politically rich are the kinds that pay police well to keep the town in fear while they rape the town

--------------------
best places to be if your a criminal

worst places to be if your trying to sweat for a living

Perfect place for lobotomized compliant Federal government workers and contractors.

Only surpassed in mind-numbing bland nothingness by Ashburn and surroundings.

Now drink your Soma.

It is nice. Lots of lakes and 20 community pools for Reston residents, plus golf courses and tennis courts.

Now with the metro all the real estate agents are upping the price of house in Reston by an automatic $20,000.

heard that the new walking dead spinoff will be based and shot there.

Keep your eye out for the casting call ads in the Post.

There was a reason they called that place Deadston in the 70's

Lots of crime around the black-infested subsidized housing units. No one in their right mind would send their kids to the local high school. Too ghetto. Black culture ruins everything. Might as well live in the jungles of Africa.

Really? You certainly can't see that from the South Lakes Cheerleaders. Doesn't look like a ghetto high school to me?

Reston is hardly a shithole, and someplace in the vicinity seems to make the top ten just about every year. Our neighbors Bowie, Rockville, and Columbia/Ellicott City made the list this year, but I was a bit surprised to see Dale City at #37. Times have changed...

Typical dumbfuck. It's the downscale low-IQ goobers always whining about how other folks have so many nicer cars than they do. And calling a place like Reston a shithole. You people are s-o-o-o-o-o-o dissatisfied with your own circumstances. What a sorry way to go through life. Losers is what we call you, but you are right to pity yourselves.

The apes run wild in Reston. Not a good place to live if you have any appreciation for civilization.

Yeah, Reston is great. If you are a wine-o soccer mom who likes to get fucked by her boss on the weekends to try and get a promotion while the alcoholic dad is hammered watching football.

How can you say it sucks? It has the Reston Town Center! As well as the Reston Town Center, and Reston Town Center. And, don't forget, there is also the Reston Town Center! Plenty of places for my family to get fat

I'm very sorry you are from Reston. My condolences go out to you. If you ever need anything I am here for you. Don't hesitate to call me, even if it is just to talk. It must be awful what you are going through right now living in that hell on either called "Reston"

"Civilization" being a beat-up old truck with NRA and NASCAR stickers and a gun-rack. Such a dismally failed clan, these hog-caller hicks and hayseeds.

As you might imagine, I have significant business interests in Reston. That would not be the case if the demographics and peripherals were not so strong. Money talks, dude. But not to you.

That's funny. I've probably owned more BMWs over the years than you've owned cars. Still have one but it's nothing that you'd appreciate. But I'm not a big enough dickhead to gauge my neighborhood by the number of BMWs. That's just plain sad man. Especially since they're about as rare as Camrys around here.

These days BMWs primarily are sold to what are known as aspirational buyers. That's a nicer marketing-speak way of saying wannabes. The vast majority are leased. Large numbers of which by people who wouldn't have them otherwise.

I never knew Reston was really expensive compared to the rest of Fairfax County, not counting the illegal infested areas, I know those are much cheaper like Route 1 or 7 corners.

I commute from Reston to downtown DC every day. Walk/bus/metro/walk. 1 hour door-to-door. It could not be easier.

The commute from Vienna can't be much shorter.
