I am concerned as a taxpayer after this story broke recently that illegal immigrant children could sign up for schools with no valid proof of residency in the school-zone.
This is unfair to tax paying law abiding citizens who live in the county because illegal children can show up at the best schools and cannot be turned down.
Has political correctness played a part in us being unwilling or unable to crack down on illegal nefarious acts by mostly central and south American illegal migrants?

Here is the cost from Reuters:2,799 unaccompanied illegal alien minors are estimated to have enrolled in K-12 public education in Virginia.
While the average annual cost of educating each child in Virginia is approximately $11,062, the costs skyrocket to $19,359 for each unaccompanied illegal alien minor.
Thus, Virginia taxpayers are incurring an additional $54,182,412 annual cost on top of the $1.42 billion they currently pay each year for educating illegal alien children, and the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens.
The total cost of K-12 education for unaccompanied minors spread across 50 states is $761,405,907, yet ten states including Virginia incur the vast majority - 80 percent - of the national costs.

Everything will be alright. FCPS just completed a 20 million dollar 5 story "urban school" in Baily's to help ease the congestion for these poor people. It will be the new model for future urban school buildings so all the illegal youngsters have a place to be while the parents are mowing grass and cleaning hotel rooms during the day. FCPS and the tax payers will provide free lunches and breakfasts and in most cases book bags and pencils to these kids. Its a small price to pay so Americans won't have to get their hands dirty doing such mondane tasks. So rejoice in the fact that the school system has it covered for you and take it easy...

All the illegals I went to school with either dropped out or graduated hs, had kids, and work minimum wage jobs. I knew quite a few illegals in high school, only 1 had planned to go to NVCC. A very small percentage of them actually want to learn English and further their education. I fully support any illegal that does truly want to better their situation, but unfortunately it's not the majority of them that do. It's a vicious cycle, the uneducated ones pop out babies they can't afford and the next gen doesn't know better so if repeats on.

We have at least 16 new non-English speaking children in our elementary school this year. Mostly they sit quietly and don't interfere because they don't understand. Their classmates are very helpful in showing them how to go to restroom, sharpen pencils, etc.
The biggest impact I see is that the guidance counselor and other specialists have no time for the other children because they need to work with the new immigrants.
The PTA wants to do some fundraisers to help out these new families.... backpacks, weekend food, school supplies, etc.

My child had a young Hispanic girl come into his class during the school year last year and couldn't speak a lick of English. The ESOL class was already full and the teacher asked another bi-lingual child to interpret for the girl. Our system is totally screwed up and its only going to get worse. Meanwhile Fairfax County will spend an additional $13 million this year educating illegal children who only speak Spanish.
