Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I was reading my daughter's English class syllabua, and it says the lowest grade a student can get its a 53%! Why are they lowering the bar? Do they want to have the school with the most A's? How will that help improved the sol scores? The principal has no idea what she doing. Today they called me and told me to being a changed of shirt for my daughter because she wasn't allowed to wear what she was wearing. anyone know when this lady will be promated ? Aka fired
It's to close the achievement gap for minority students. The bar is totally lowered in every way. Students can retake tests as many times as they want and turn in assignments whenever they want. Homework is no longer given because the students don't do it. These policies are made for students from poor backgrounds to help them "succeed". All it does is hurt kids who already have good academic discipline and lower the standard of their education. Mt. Vernon is nig city. So go figure.

In my Chem212 class a 53% was a solid C grade - it depends on the curve. I dropped the class the first time because I had a 4.0 and got a 60% on the first exam. I was horrified to find out that was a B. The Chem majors laughed - they said in Physical Chem the class average was ~35%. Friggin Chem and Physics classes.

FCPS is just preparing them to fail out of their first year of college by making the m believe they are prepared while keeping themselves out of hot water with the state by losing accredation. Just one of the techniques they employ to make everyone feel good about themselves up to the point they fail out after the second semester of college.
Way to prepare these kids for their future. In the real world your boss won't "give you an F" by yelling or humiliating you. They will just politely tell you in private that you're fired.

Not these kids, they won't. At worst, they'll be 'laid off' or, more likely transferred to become someone else's problem. Don't need those lawsuits.
Schools such as this give FCPS a bad name. The 53% zero defies logic and sets up kids for a rude awaking in real life. It is intellectual dishonesty and parents should protest.
In a number of FCPS high schools, 53% must also be given if the work is never done, even if there is no good excuse for that. (Parents have no way to know what the real situation is unless the teacher attaches an electronic note to the emailed grades.)

They better leave the area to find work and hope their school's rep isn't known. No need to worry about lawsuits because I wouldn't hire them to begin with knowing where they went to school.
We are doomed as a nation, these kids won't have to worry about a job, they will be out with the rest of us trying find tree roots to eat when there is nothing else.
