Back Injury

Can a back injury affect your legs? A few weeks ago I missed the last step and fell on my left hip and my lower back and legs have been in pain. Fell hard like a bag of rocks. Can hardly turn over when sleeping or getting up. Haven't been to a doc yet, just taking Alieve and such.

go to a chiropractor for sure. Go soon and get it straight before it causes you more trouble and takes longer to fix.

What long term affects and what can a chiropractor actually do?

Just sitting can be more painful some days but I can walk fine.
I can turn over much better than last week so maybe it is just inflamed.

Had sciatica once and that was no fun.

Yes, of course it can. You're lucky you didn't break your hip. Hopefully, you just have muscular or ligament damage (not that that's any picnic). But you may well have broken something - even a hairline fracture can can cause a lot of problems. Go to your doctor. Do not diminish your problem and don't let him blow you off. I would think that X-rays at least are in order. This is a pay me now or pay me later situation (ask me how I know).

If you fell into a puddle of AIDS-infected blood, while having open wounds yourself, it may be the cause.

Who the fuck spends time crying about stuff like this? Are you stupid?! What do you gain from "educating" OP? The satisfaction of ranting? Why don't you go pound your fat head into the wall and leave us out of it. Retard yourself.

If I would have broken my hip wouldn't I be in severe pain. When I walk I am ok, but sitting down is somewhat painful but not as bad. Taking it easy.

Yes. You wouldn't be able to get up from your chair without Percocet, if at all. You wouldn't be walking without a lot of pain. Chair sitting and hip pain is common for 60+. The remedy is to walk more.

sounds like you may have a pinched nerve in the back. or maybe you fall caused one of your discs to bulge or bust putting pressure on your spinal cord, like sciatica would...

You should just go to a doctor. If it's a muscle it's totally different than a disc. You don't want to go to a chiropractor if you did anything to a disk as it could cause more damage. Better to be safe not sorry. Lying flat with a back injury is now not a good thing either.

Advil is an NSAID and can inhibit bone growth. When I broke my leg they said not to take that. You should go to a doctor before you make it worse.

If I would have broke my hip I would think I would be in severe pain, which I am not. Seem to be healing slowly so I may hold off on the doctor. Most doctors are just scammers of the insurance industry. Nobody really monitors their practice, and practices.

Some back injuries send a sharp pain down the leg . A compressed disc is one. See a MD.

Hot Poultices may help with the pain. But if its still bothering you , you need to see a real doctor.

FCD,

Your nerves run up and down the super highway of your spinal cord. You did some damage my friend. The term "slipped disk", "Herniated disk" "ruptured disk" are all same thing. I did it to mine 25 years ago in the Army. Finally got ot treatment. First the MRI had to get done showed my disk had ruptured. Think of your disk as a jelly donut. The "jelly" is the fluid that tears through the disk wall and pushes on the nerves that control your legs and arms. There is no pushing it back it. It has to get shaved down to relive the pressure. That was my first surgery. Well, after the disk continued to push on the nerves harder, the second surgery bolted the two disks together to "fuse" the spinal cord. So far, so good. BTW, I had to get 3 sets of cortisone shots prior that did absolutely nothing. Also, the 12 sessions of physical therapy prior to even the MRI my insurance company made me do, did nothing at all.

So, it could be bad or just a jolt that will be okay. If your back and leg hurt long term....like months. Get an MRI

Good free medical advice on FFX underground!!

I'm better now: Great advice and excellent post by you.
Yes, I could have done something to my disk but possibly healing with rest and just easy care.

Think I am slowly getting better as it only hurts mainly when I am sitting. Sleeping at night has been much better than last week. The first week has HELL and I could not turn over or get out of bed without pain. Last few days have been fine with no pain TURNING OVER.

Being that I fell on my left hip and not my tailbone may have been a blessing in disguise. I am not feeling a "sharp pain" down my leg, just a little tingling but minor, I was able to walk a lot yesterday. With the hard fall so lucky I didn't break a shoulder, hip, or arm.

Causeican: I do appreciate all the advice, sincerely do. It is advice I may not find elsewhere. I have some pain but slowly walking and minor stretching may have been helping.

They take awhile to heal since you re-injure it every night when you periodically adjust your sleeping position and have pain.

Since you gave me such a detailed response I wanted to get back to you. My back seems much better, where I can drive with very little pain. Still have some pain in my legs but not unbearable. So, not sure if I did permanent damage or eventually will heal fine on my own. I am sure I did something to the disk but I can get out of bed and roll over in bed with no pain so I hope it will (yes, take time) but over time heal all the way. Reading about the physical therapy you spent all that time on and it didn't help makes me want to stay away from that as well. Doing home exercises slowly.

Glad to hear that it's better.

In regards to PT, just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it might not work for you. My wife had to do PT for her hand and foot once and it really helped her. So, you never know.

Good luck, and try not to fall down, lol!

Try having a friend eat a large amount of chives and urinating on your pelvic region

I would go to my general physician and get checked out. They can refer you to who you need to see.

You probably at least need an x-ray done.

If you have back pain, you should definitely take a course of treatment. For ordinary injections or pills have only a temporary effect.

This injury poses a serious risk because there isn't much soft tissue in the back that can reduce an impact by absorbing it. On the contrary, there is a high risk of damaging your spine and causing irreparable damage to your health. You need to be sure to stay on bed rest. Apply pain relievers, anti-inflammatory ointments. You can use a sports tape to reduce back and leg pain https://dunbarmedical.com/product-category/taping-wrapping-padding/athletic-tape/. If there is a suspicion that the bruise is accompanied by any complication, you should seek the help of a qualified specialist.
