The majority of workers at the IRS are certified assholes that do not have a clue what they are doing. They make up a bunch of bullshit, some officials sign it, and then they cross their fingers that no one hires an attorney that knows his shit to kick their fat dimpled asses right out of the court room door. The whole place is a corrupt fucking joke!

^^^^This simply is not true. The IRS has been kept on a tight leash for at least 30 years. When they are allowed to do their job, IRS officers still do very well on the civil side. BTW by IRS officers I don't mean the customer service people you talk to after being on hold for 90 minutes. The lack of success on the criminal side is because of the reluctance of IRS-CI to take referrals, and the even greater reluctance of prosecutors to take cases for potential prosecution.
Before the IRS was gutted it was not unusual for the IRS to work with prosecutors in criminal investigations. Throwing in a tax fraud charge allowed prosecutors to bring in evidence that might not otherwise be considered relevant. Plus throwing in tax charges would allow prosecutors to lean on people that might not be connected with the criminal activity.
Talk to some old time IRS employees and you will get some interesting stories.
