We need to talk about how the MAGA Trumpers have subverted patriotism and patriotic symbols for their own divisive purposes. Trump and the GOP have relentlessly equated patriotism with the flag and conservative values. The democrats are communists and anti-American by this logic. This Trump branding exercise was gaining steam until the BLM riots, when the democrats began to regain public opinion: Thank to the BLM protests, it became patriotic to be anti-police, and by extension, anti-US Government.

Fast forward to the MAGA riot at the capitol. Unlike the BLM folks who used their own protest symbols and signs at their events, the Trumpers suborned the American flag, waving it as justification for the belief that they were “patriots” to attack the capitol. People are saying the Trumpers were not shot at by police during the riot just because they were white. Somebody needs to look at whether the police were thrown off by seeing most of the rioters carrying American flags (and Trump campaign flags too). Seeing the flags, it probably didn’t immediately come to their mind that the sitting president’s supporters were trying to overthrow the government as the pushed into the building.

We need to make the American flag again a symbol for all Americans, not Trumpers. Hopefully the dems and the BLM will take note — it’s their flag too, not just for the Trumpers.

But BLM hates America. Why would they want to use the American flag for anything?

Quite true. The American Flag is a symbol of colonialism, repression, racism and foreign interference. Once the real reset is complete the United States will be getting a new flag.

Every member of that maga mob carrying a flag should be strung up in the nearest tree for Desecration our flag. PERIOD

I agree with your perception of the patriotic meaning of the American flag. Trumpers did too much damage, defamed the country's honor. Haha, I remembered now a funny story about a thing for the flag. It is not referred to the topic, but I got amused at getting into such an awkward situation. I wanted to put the American flag in front of my house and ordered a flag. And then my neighbor saw it and also liked it and got it, but in addition, he added a solar flag polar light https://www.amazon.com/Flagpole-Energy-Battery-Illumunation-Vont/dp/B00YBDA7DC/, this one. Then, all the pedestrians looked at his flag day and night because of the fancy illumination, and I remained with my primary flag.
