Oops another gun nut shoots a family member by accident. Whoopsie... LOL! Gotta love people with their guns!

Authorities say a Virginia deputy sheriff shot his 16-year-old daughter after mistaking her for an intruder, then crashed his car as he rushed her to the hospital.

According to media reports, the teenager was in stable condition at a Winchester hospital.

Capt. Donnie Lang of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a security alarm sounded at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Winchester home of Easton McDonald, a sergeant with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. He says Lang, responding to the alarm, saw the dark shape of a person advancing through the garage door and fired.

Emergency responders took the teenager to the hospital after McDonald crashed into a barricade. McDonald was not injured.

Loudoun sheriff's spokesman Kraig Troxell says McDonald is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

If you are that passionate about guns why wouldn't you want to be on the SWAT team anyways? If you didn't make the grade then you are too stupid to own a gun. And, why not some provision if somebody can prove themselves extraordinarily capable and intelligent, they can own a gun.

This is not an accident.
Why are you defending somebody who shot their child? It wasn't an accident. He shot at something Unidentified and moving or for all we know, he could have been planning to kill his wife. Rule one with a gun...Know WHAT and WHERE you are shooting. He should be fired and jailed PERIOD. With gun possession comes great responsibility. You do not have the right to shoot it at people without being 100% sure you are justified.

Most people who have guns know that it one could possibly misfire or kill a family member. That they might some day committ suicide with their gun and their fine with that.

It goes further, it is the price society pays. Gun shots wound are enormously
expensive with an average of $17,000. About half is paid for by government since most victims don't have insurance. Many gangbangers have been shot numerous times before ending up dead or in prison. Many end up disabled, which we then pay for their expenses for the rest of their life.

Vehicles and their operators cost society more than gun owners. Look at all the people that are on their phones talking and texting. The DWI's cost plenty also.

My Ex wife and some of my kids live a block away. The officer is black and the police car is always sitting outside. He always waved when I went passed his house and he was always outside talking to neighbors... Tragic!!!

Excepts cars serve a useful purpose for the majority of owners, guns do not. 99% of gun owners don't need a gun to live day to day so itis not the same thing. Drunks are a different story since drunks cause problems everywhere, not just behind the wheel. I read that the majority of criminals were drunk and high when they committed the crime.

Teenagers do stuff, you can't control them 100% of the time. My kids did, and so did my wife and I when we were teenagers. It is part of growing up. Drink a few Starbucks coffees at 9pm and you are up for a while. Forall we know, she was sitting in the car with her friends talking about life.

I wouldn't own a gun because I would kill someone breaking into my car, or vandalizing my property. I would be the one who gets fucked in the end. Texas is the only state I would own a gun, love that castle law.

A house without a gun is 85% safer than with a gun. To many accidents and mistakes by gun owners. I don't live in a high crime area. The house was robbed once back in the 70's. A light was turned on and the burglars took off running. No big gun western style shoot out in the house. They wanted to get the fuck away as soon as possible.

The OP story is a prime example. This type of shit happens all the time to gun owners. Sucks that the end up shooting their kids or that guns goes of accidently. But that shit happens, alot!

I am also going to bet the Deputy didn't announce himself and then say he had a gun. He just started blasting.

Because her dad thought she was inside asleep and didn't know she had snuck out.
Again, none of this would have happened if the kid had done what she was suppose to do.

This is an appropriate use of firearms. Security alarm goes off at 3:30am. Someone coming at you through the garage. I agree - no warnings given - shoot first and ask questions later. Who in their right mind would engage in repartee with an unknown residential intruder at 3:30AM?

It's best to have pre-arranged signals with all members of the household to cover just such an event as this. Our family knows how to properly enter if an alarm goes off or if they have to break into the house for any reason. Everyone knows if they don't follow protocols someone could get hurt.

A decent would have turned the gun on himself after realizing what he had done.

The only thing I see here for public comment, assuming the story is true, is whether this person has sufficiently good judgment to hold a job that requires him to carry a gun. The incident itself is simply sad, and my prayers are with both of them.

Well at least he didn't miss?

So, now we can't trust the police with guns. With only the military allowed to have guns, I can't see what could go wrong.

The update so far for the Deputy Easton McDonald incident is that he will face no charges, for the shooting or the car crash.
