This is also a free class paid for by the County. Others have to pay to go take it elsewhere, so a free ride to a paramedic license is a big deal. The other volunteers who wouldn't fuck their way into the program will now have to drop thousands of dollars out of pocket.

Tick is a derogatory term some career staff use to describe volunteers. A tick is a parasite that feeds off of other animals. In some people's minds, the volunteers feed off of the system. I personally never used that term. It is I believe a term local to Fairfax. Other systems use derogatory terms such as squirrels, dingers, meat whippers etc. Unecessary derogatory terms in my opinion.

That's impossible, volunteers can't just show up and rise at a career station. Well, they can when they're screwing the crew on the medic unit while they're on duty. I thought she only did that at 27.

Getting elected to the board of any VFD is simple. Most people don't want it, and it's a matter of who doesn't want it the most, unless you have low self-esteem and need to validate your place in the organization. Years of waitressing helps as does the willingness of having a sexual encounter with all male members of the VFD and the career staff within the station.

Also, as far as VFD's go, a waitress is probably as qualified to make decisions on building fire and ems apparatus as an accountant, plumber, carpenter, painter, govt contractor, IT specialist etc. etc
