Straight back in thr 80s

Does anyone remember Straight drug tratment facility back in the 80s. It was on Backlick rd in Springfield. I spent 5 fucking months there for getting busted in High School 3 times. That place was a nightmare. The counselors were all pieces of shit who used psychological warfare on its kids. They tryed to brainwash us and it really affected kids in a bad way.

Please dont reveal names of past Straight students. My point was how crazy this fucking place was. Yes drugs are bad but dont brainwash people like they did. I would like to find some of those instructors and have a "talk" with them.

I did a 90 day stretch there with a breakfast club wannabe we called hungry man.... The only thing the dude would ever talk about in group was which places had the best types of food. I ended up having a foursome with his mom, colonel sanders and an old dude we called papa john.

I dated a guy in high school who dragged out of school one day by his parents and sent to Straight. That place really screwed with his head, he ended up running away from the program and disappeared for awhile. He is fine now, thank God. I know there is a Facebook group for Straight survivors. Pretty sure the group that ran this place ended up getting in trouble.

Always wondered what that place was. Thanks.

Knew that it was something out of the ordinary since there was never any commercial signage.

It does relate to political memes
Mel Sembler a Reagan dick polisher founded Straight in Florida.
The property developer snake oil salesman quickly cashed in with his Synanon style
peer on peer program.
With his political connections got former Mrs Reagan and Princess D to do a high profile endorsement of the program.
Straight Inc led by Mel opened up shop in multiple states.
The day to day life for clients was filled with direct confrotation by peers in what could be described as mental abuse.
Complete segregation from "outsiders"and "distractions" helped the staff deprogram the clients and reprogram them with Straights belief system.

This all done by teenagers and young adults comitted by courts.
The sadistic and evil types rose to the top to physicall and mentally torment others while recieving praise from the staff members.

Lawsuits came flowing in and when the veil started to be lifted Straight would close shop and move.
You were determined to have a drug problem if your parents had insurance and you were cured when it ran out.
You slept and had dinner at a host home when you were a newcommer you were held by your beltloop during transportation whatched while showering and bathroom.
You stayed in a large room from 9am to9pm five days a week and 9am to when ever "open meeting" was over 12pm-1am.
"open meeting" was their perfect performance showcaseing what your child could be with their help local teachers, cops, doctors, who's who would show up and witness the bad apples turning their shit around and god forbid you fucked up their show.
For a fun read go to this link for more happy clients testimonials.

Uhh. I think your talking about the Texas Prison system, Dont forget to decribe the term.. "Tuneup" as it is used in Texas prisons. Its often done in low income areas too.

Oh and in Jim Morons neighborhood , I heard..some time ago.

Same type of thinking
If they wanted to get to you they would hardly need to imply it, and 200 fuckers looking for brownie points would line up to "get in your face" with some "spit therapy" till you thump one. Which resulted in you being taken down and restrained with kids sitting on your arms and legs.

Before they lost a huge lawsuit (one of many), if you wouldn't pay attention they would put huge clients on each side of you to hold your arms and legs while your seated, someone behind you to hold your head, and another guy with his fingers holding your eyelids open so you couldn't close them. They would do whatever it took to try to make you comply, and eventually even the biggest baddest motherfuckers would comply. There was too many of them to keep up the fight.

Kids ran the place. There were adults (called executive staff) that dealt with the parents, but never dealt with the kids. That seemed to be designed so they could plead ignorance if necessary. You know how kids can be cruel? They were sadistic. The kids that really had problems were treated the worst. They blamed you for all the problems in your family. If something happened when you were ten, it was because you were a dry druggie (WTF?) And the parents loved that because they didn't have to accept responsibility for shit.

They would turn the abused into abusers. Its really amazing how it worked. Your best friend in there would snitch you out to save his own ass, and that was normal. He would believe he was saving your life. They isolated you from all knowledge of the outside world and all you knew was what they told you. After a while all the abuse became normal. They could have you sitting among 200 people and you could feel completely isolated and alone. Many people bullshitted their way through, many more started to believe that place saved their lives (even if they only got high once or twice)

A kid told a story of being raped by the guy who's home he was sent to in there. A staff guy came out and threatened consequences if anyone said anything. Out of 100 people that heard it NOBODY said anything out of fear. That was the effect of the terror that they ran that place with.

The place was a cult. If you expressed a desire to leave then you were in deep shit. If you ran away they would come and get you. They had a private investigator (Paul Bishop) that would track an escaped kid down, until Paul was busted for child porn in 1985. If you disagreed with a staff member you were in deep shit. Independent thinking was greatly discouraged under penalty of beginning your whole 'program' from scratch. They had songs about how great the place was, and you better sing them.

The name 'Straight Inc' was later changed into 'The Drug Free America Foundation' (using the same tax ID number). The DFAF is extremely influencing (if not the most influential) on the nations drug policy (Nancy Reagan and the first George Bush did commercials for them. Straight was one of Bush's 1000 points of light, even though they had already lost many lawsuits by then) even though they had no clue on how to really help a kid. Their tactics actually caused longterm problems for quite a few clients. Personally, I lost a huge part of me in there. Its like I lost a part of my soul and I never could get it back, even 30 years later. And I'm not unique in that respect.

I'm not going to write a novel, but there is much much more. Books have been written on it, there are many stories on the web.

I'm gonna smoke a fatty now

Nobody got in trouble. When the place got shut down in Springfield, Fairfax DA Robert Horgan was quoted as saying "We just want them gone". That quote is somewhere on the web under an old news article.

The billionaire who started the place raised more money for the RNC than anyone else ever, so you know nobody ever got in trouble. The billionaire was also made ambassador to Austria during part of that time it operated (after losing lawsuits. You know how they dig into nominees histories, they knew and must not have cared. Unless someone has a better explination) and made ambassador to Italy later by Bush Jr. The main people involved were actually rewarded.

Kids as young as 12 weren't allowed to go to school until they were trusted. The FCPS never argued with that and fully knew of the compulsory schooling law being broken at every school

Hell, the ex JEB Stuart principal, Mel Riddle (who won a national school administrator award years later) was the national director of straight for ten years.

A comment above mentions not trading it for nothing. I can't argue another's experiences or outlook, I'd trade it for anything, but the knowledge I gained on how things really work in this country and how money is what really controls the government is priceless

Sometimes you can be completely blind until it happens to you. It really sucked years later when I learned the specifics of history of the place, along with what happened behind the scenes and discovered how everything I have been taught about the equality and freedoms in this country are total bullshit.

i was in the 80's too. even partiers didnt party during the week in fairfax.

in fairfax anyone who wasn't drunk all day could get a paying job and anyone who stayed a few months could get pay enough for rent and food

people didn't like drug addicts even the drug using partiers didn't like drug addicts - even the drug addicts were proud of working and didn't smoke dope during the week or if they did "sneak a hit" were proud of it not effecting their work output

your completely full crap depicting fairfax in the 80's as a bunch of people who did drugs and needed continual government rehab

infact for some/many there was no government rehab. you might die on the streets if you didn't work. it was life or death to not be a "druggie". and that was part of USA's drive of even people who smoked pot on the weekends.

SURVIVAL. in the USA you didn't get a gov job and a siesta if you had a drug problem. YOU DIED.

in the 80's women didn't have cush high paying gov jobs they often had less strenous jobs - and sweat paid in the 80's, engineering aside

they weren't all stuck up with $150,000 "guaranteed pay" gov jobs, own home. they were very approachable if single (approachable, but willing for one guy or not another various).

on a weekend you could call a girl in the 80's, go to the ice rink, turn up the radio. back to work during the week, on the phone all the time.

----------------------

fairfax in obamaland: totally different story. the government is continually try to find a way to deem you "mentally insane" so they, with their $100,000/yr jobs, have you out of the way and no pay, so they can take a bigger peice of pie.

"sorry your mentally ill, i'll have to send armed police to your home to seize you, and double my pay again"

fairfax during liberal rule. facist rule.

the women: are terrified to date a worker "that sweats for a living" even post on their dating wishes "not to contact them" (unless your set up with a high pay job which in fx co is %99.99 government driven)

fairfax in obamaland: illegals running around fairfax in luxury asian cars with allot of cash and new housing: all of it through government liberal counterfeited moneys, handed out politically.

in fairfax obamaland: i'm in line getting shoe laces for work boots and i have a rich young nigga with a sexy woman you know he's fucking pointing his finger at my head behind me saying "BOOM!" (i turned around just in time to see the finger)

You're thinking of AIDS patients. Everyone born after WWII did dope in the 70a and 80s. Pot, hash, shroooms, mescaline, acid, blah, blah, blah. People who DIDN'T do drugs were people you COULDN'T trust.

If the political cronies weren't so blinded by Mel Semblers fat purse they might have seen the proof that that foundations tactics were, and still are doomed to failure. DFAF and straight just spit out bullshit propaganda (straight especially, they only dealt with naive teens and they told outrageous lies that most of the kids knew were bs but were scared to speak up on).
Kids know when your bullshitting them. I'm not glorifying drugs, but marijuana is not harmful in moderation. But when kids discover they've been lied to about that then they figure that they've been lied to about coke, pills, meth, and everything else that carries serious harm. Kind of like the BLM thing, there's some truth in that (except all lives matter, the BLM title is racist), but the media throws in so much bullshit on that subject that many of us start to look at that whole movement as a joke.

Henro, One of my best friends and I only have 2 BEST friends, besides my wife, was locked up in the Florida facility until they moved him to Backlick Road.

He told me all the Horror stories he experienced. A punishment called the Peanut Butter diet, where the person would have to stand all day without sitting down in a booth and was allowed only 2 spoonfulls of peanut butter a day, plus water .. And they had to stand there NAKED .. buck naked. I think I recall that they couldn't even leave to use the bathroom so they would just defecate and urinate right there while standing up.

He also told me he knew one girl who while during this punishment, was repeatedly raped by a "counselor", who actually was simply a teenager who had "graduated" through all the levels of the place ... If you graduated, you became eligible to impose the same abuse you went through, on others trying to "graduate".

Also, of those who were locked up in those Straight places, several or more have since committed suicide. One local girl from Northern VA area sued and was awarded something like 4 million dollars .. but this was years ago.

I speak out here, because of how much this effected my friend .. When he finally returned to public school, he was paranoid because of the brainwashing that went on and was scared to talk to or look at anyone during the school day.

A Real Hell on earth, that place was.

Shout back to Jungleboogy (BM) hope all is well.

Sharky8

Florida had two places Saint Pete and Sarasota, and as Springfield was hell to me it was much more violent down South.

With the PB diet you refer to was called "Consequences" which was their way of forcing compliance to rules. We spent a half hour every day going over rules.
Rules rap was after lunch.

You had nothing in the program except your clothes and there were very little if any creature comforts if you were lucky you might get some Lifesavers.
Staff members had to get creative (masochistic) with way to make a "misbehavers" dismal life worse so they came up with

"CONSEQUENCES"

Here are some of the fun ones I had

no looking in the mirror
7 stroke with hair brush
30 second cold shower
PB diet/water (straight fed lunch only, host family fed you breakfast, dinner )
Frozen on day Three
Assigned seat 2nd row 2nd seat

Still cant eat Peanut Butter

Aaah
Good times!

Alls good henro. Hope its all good with you too

Remember guys raps? And super sadist Dean always being the one to lead the meetings when he asked about sexual experiences, and he'd be trying to get people to talk about gay shit and beastiallity? Then calling them faggots. I never heard of that shit, except as a joke, before I went in there

Later, upon learning he was a fag (which I heard rumors of years ago) I wondered if he used that info to get fired up before going in the staff bathroom and getting familiar with the toilet plunger handle

I also had the same consequences too. We were both determined to never finish that place. And didn't

And the standard reply to someone complaining about how fucked up it was "At least you weren't in St Pete, its so much nicer here"
I heard a lot about it and still can't imagine how insane it was down there

My fav was when Kent kept talking about spanking his monkey and "Falling to his weakness" and then told Senior Staffer Barbra he was thinking of her.
The girls side erupted.

Remember the WEI Warrior song?

I don't remember that song

Kent was one of those head games guys. Super paranoid. He was my 'old comer' when that kid got raped, he told me that night how fucked up that was, then reported himself the next day and got in deep shit

You me and I C stayed at Kents house in annandale during a snowstorm. I reckon they didn't want us troublemakers to have an escape opportunity on a long drive in the snow. I thought for weeks after that it was a missed opportunity for escape if we all tried against Kent and Big fat Roger. One could maybe get away. But I know I wasn't real bold, just stubborn and ignorant

I had a friend in there in the mid 80's that called me to deliver him some acid. Bet he would've had a fun trip in that place.

Didn't happen. Nobody could handle that or think they could possibly get away with it

WEI Warrior was something about a zombie baby don't remember the start but the line "stabbed the knife in the baby's head the more I stabbed the more it bled
WEI WEI WARIOR"
With the stabbing hand gestures

We had to stop it in the line up of songs because Barbra B had like 20 abortions and cried when we sang it.

9 to 9 feeling fine
I am Straight I am Invincible

I loved Country Roads except we couldn't sing the word Moonshine
I forgot what we substituted shine with.

Hardhead, was Kent the defiler or witnessed it????

I too was passive about fucking up a host family and "copping out" that way
I regret not getting the intense rush of hitting the door and going for it.
I hate running and my 240lb frame was less than Ideal for long distance.

The Two most brutal "Cop Outs" were Brent A choking Matt B with his night robe belt that made it through search group. Matt bled through his eyes ears and nose. His pretty Blue eyes were rust colored for over a year. The repercussions to Brent were brutal and relentless. I admit I crossed the line and fucked him up in some "Bathroom Therapy" and not just Spit. They sent him to My house and me as his old comer. Did not sleep much with him there.

The second was Chris S Taking the whole Family hostage during breakfast with a butter knife.
He held it to a siblings throat and demanded cash and car keys.

Remember this set up

Boring rap going on
Silently staffers bring in an old face
Person "sharing" finishes up
Whole group shouts "love you -------"
Senior staff member asks
"how many people remember so and so"
Crowd ERUPTS
(poor victim standing with paints pulled tight because they have a hand holding the back of there paints up)

Henro, Kent only expressed to me what he thought about what we heard in group. He shared his feelings like he was taught to do by them and got in trouble for it. Steve R was the defiler. Before he went in there he raped his two year old brother many times and fucked his sister Jackie a lot. She ended up getting knocked up in the Hardee's bathroom on 5th phase. A weird family with a super hardass dad.

I also had a hard time with acting out in someone's home. Something about respecting a family, even though some didn't deserve respect. I think most felt that way.

I remember Brent choking Matt with the bathrobe belt. Matt almost died and spent a week in the hospital. That was brutal

I don't remember the Chris S. thing. Was it the Chris that you knew before going in there? If so, even though that was evil, it gives me a little respect for him. I hated that suck up kid back then

Steve M. (RIP) smashing through Eric O's sliding glass door to escape, Eric Mc doing the same at Steve B's house.

You grabbing Chris W by the neck and choking him, and the sheer terror in his eyes (He would have been on my list too if I had any size) Priceless

Big old Ralph T being on staff and getting fired for being descriptive about about wanting to stick his face in some girls tits, with comedic sound effects, while leading a guys rap. Hillarious

The stabbing motion in that warrior song seems familiar. A lot of my first year, all on first phase, is blurry. Could have been a trauma thing.

Me coming back after leaving for the 4th or 5th time, Dean saying "how many people remember ....." And him chewing out the whole group because nobody yelled at me. And still, nobody yelled at me.

Running into Dean after leaving the final time, while I was with a couple 'copout' friends, him asking how they were doing and him looking at me like he was scared of me. That was a confusing reaction with him being much bigger than me.

This thread reminds me of how much fun we had with those drunk and stoned little tramps.

They were all to eager to peal off those skin tight Calvin Klein jeans, and open their skinny legs to show that hairy pussy.
