I AM NEW JEW IN TOWN AND NEED A REAL DELI
Posted by: SAUL GOLDSTEIN ()

Is there any place in this Nazi commonwealth that serves fresh deli meat such as corn beef pastrami, etc.

All I seem to find is Korean sliced blackmarket Boars HEads beef (fromerly known as Rover)

Need a good Jew Deli please.

Go to 15th and I street in DC.

But it sounds like you want a place to buy lunch meat, not a real deli that serves sandwiches. Can't help you there, since that isn't a "real deli".

Yo new guy, I think it's better to drive over to Montgomery, or Baltimore
counties to get what you need. It'll certainly be cheaper!

Nah, Loeb's Deli. It's sort of like a DC version of a Manhattan deli. Sort of.

High Noon sucks. Salads and pasta with a few strange sandwich creations. Of course, if you want to check out all the hot professional 20-something women who work in the golden triangle, that's a good place to go at lunch time.

DC is way too far for me. Live in Chantilly, work in Herndon. Years ago I did construction work and helped renovate what is now the High Noon Cafe. Don't eat there. Trust me. The stuff we found inside that building would turn your stomach.

If you're talking about the rats, they are in practically every building in every city.

The ones in DC appear to be the largest, though. The ones in NYC, at least the ones you see scurrying around in the garbage in the subway stations are normal sized. The ones I've seen in DC are the size of house cats.

I read an article in last Wednesday's Washington Post about Bernie's in Fairfax City, 4328 Chain Bridge Rd. Sounded good, anyone try it? (The former owners of Wagshal"s in NW DC)

I've mentioned this on here before.... it's not in Fairfax, but the Parkway Deli over in Silver Spring is good if you're looking for a Jewish-style deli. They make really good reubens, and probably the best matzoh ball soup I've ever had. They also have kickass breakfast food. You'll also find a pickle bar, which is pretty unique. Prices are reasonable- but beware, the place is always packed. It's definitely worth checking out if you're over that way- it's one of my favorite places in the DC area.

I don't think you're really a Jew, you people who say nazi all the time will live to regret because you diminish the shit those bastards caused.

If you're serious, try DC- Loebs, Wagshals or there are a bunch of spots in Mont County. There's another good place for corned beef on 19th St NW between K and L or M, I don't remember the name.

I've got Jews married into the family, they can keep the matzoh and gefilte, but they can really hook up a Reuben

Isn't Bernies that old place between the critical care place and the GMU field house?

If it's run by the same people who own Wagshalls, it's probably really good. All three Wagshalls stores were the best places to get fresh meat and seafood.

Yeah, Bernie's is at Rt 123 and School St....in the old convenience store (Courthouse Market). They completely redid the place and it's pretty nice inside now (except the floor is still uneven as hell).

I'm no connoisseur, but I think they make an excellent sammich.

And if you like talking hoops, GMU Coach Larranaga is a regular there...and a real nice guy.

I used to buy salmon and steaks for the grill at the Wagshalls on Mass Ave. I don't think they made sandwiches at that store, since there was a shop on the other side of the CVS that appeared to have that market cornered, but their steaks and seafood were top notch. I think the shop down in Potomac and the newer store behind the Defense Mapping Agency made sandwiches, but I rarely ever made it out to either of those shops.

I think the guy that ran the store on Mass ave was the owner's son, so that's probably the guy that opened up Bernies. He was pretty cool. He even gave me the recipe for their soy-ginger marinade that they were selling for like $4 for 6 ounces. Not many proprietors do that, but I guess he was happy enough that I was coming in two or three times a week to buy steaks and seafood. I like locally owned business for that sort of attitude.

(the soy-ginger marinade BTW is really easy, and great on a grilled salmon filet -- soy sauce, fresh ginger, fresh garlic and pineapple juice (or OJ). Basically, it's a variation on teriyaki sauce, without the molasses or brown sugar.)

Hey Saul, you freakin' momzer, try Chutzpah in Fairfax.

Bagel Buddies in Fair Lakes has good bagels and the clientele is reasonably Jewish (by Virginia standards). Try the whitefish salad, boychik.
