FCPS Administrators shirking duties

This is the most recent advertisement of available FCPS non-instructional positions:
http://careers.fcps.edu/jobops/current.pdf

Notice that 7 different schools are advertising a position for "Dining Room Assistant." We have one of these at my school already. The position amounts to someone doing the dirty-work of managing student behavior during lunches so administrators can keep their hands clean and not have to exercise their crowd control abilities (most admins are horrible at it).

Except admins wouldn't do it anyway - they'd just force teachers or aids to do it.

I certainly don't recall having "dining room assistants" back in the day. Heck, we didn't have a dining room---I believe it was a cafeteria.

Summer on FFXU is such a nuisance. These children should go outside instead of complaining about some bullshit at school, over privileged dinks.

"It's time to go to the dining room for our gourmet free lunch," said the beautiful young teacher as she led the students out of the room. As the enthusiastic and hungry students approached the dining room, the dining room assistant asked each student whether he or she would like milk, water, or a healthy fruit drink with the meal. This was just the first task in the busy dining room assistant's job duties.

While the Dining Room Assistant is cracking the whip in the cafeteria, you'll find classroom teachers wolfing down their lunch as fast as possible so they can use their lunch time to respond to work emails or arrange materials for the afternoon, meanwhile most of the administrative staff are enjoying a relaxed social lunch in the main office kitchen area.

Students should not need to be monitored at lunch, and should keep the school bathrooms clean also. Filthy savages.

Yes the school gym will be know as the school fitness center. Gang bathrooms will now be called comfort facilities. We want out students to not only feel entitled but important

obvious fraud of > $2,000

someone needs jailtime

obviously after the kids eat the staff cleans and it's not a fulltime job - cafeteria staff pauses for the 5 min it takes and goes back into cafeteria

that's GRAND THEFT by sharon bullova gov (as if we didnn't know they are way past that mark already)

--------------
ditto in my day if a kid demanded assistance the kid would be beat up at some point

i assume you mean cleaning up - not actual "assistance". get the hell back if you mean actual assistance

I think it's funny how all 7 schools have their own separate job descriptions for this position. Some emphasize discipline and behavior. Others mention being outgoing, energetic or loving children. None of them mention how much the job pays.

Based on the descriptions, I would go for Kent Garden and steer clear of Fort Hunt. If you have to write a lot about that job, there's something wrong there or they are expecting to micromanage the employee (yuck).

I also think it's such a waste of time for somebody to be writing all those separate descriptions---really FCPS?

WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK?!!!

I work in the middle schools so I've never seen this before. Where I work, administration does indeed monitor the cafeterias with the help of teachers. We don't hire randoms to babysit the kids at lunch.

But my husband attended FCPS in the 70s has informed me that they had these people around back then too. I am blown away by what a total and utter waste of money this is. Yet one more item to add to my list of financial waste in the county.

When I was a kid, the custodians did this (yeah, I am not kidding). We actually respected our custodians, knew their names, said hello to them in the halls, etc. They would basically make sure we dumped our garbage in the big trash cans and stacked our trays. They knew all of us by name because they were also our bus drivers. There were only about 6 bus runs in my grade school.
