Thieves going around at night in a white van in Centreville/Chantilly area

I live where it’s considered Centreville/Chantilly border off of Stone Road.
Around 3am last night, my dogs started barking. I thought they heard deer running around outside, so I stayed in my bed. After their persistent barking, I finally got up and looked out the window. I saw a white van parked across from my house and I believe two to three men getting in it (couldn’t see what they looked like at all because it was pitch black outside). Unfortunately, I didn’t think much of it because my weird next door neighbor always has all kinds of guests over.
This morning, I stepped outside and saw my purse on the lawn and all of its contents dumped everywhere in front of my house. I definitely did not take the purse out of my car. At this point, I realized I must have accidentally left the car unlocked last night (car parked in my driveway). Thank goodness I didn’t leave my wallet in the purse! Inside of my car was a complete mess, with the center console and glove box completely open and searched through. They managed to find my iPod and even stole my iPhone car charger.
Please lock your cars at night, bring all valuables in the house, and have the lights outside the house ON throughout the night. Also, if you see a suspicious white van in your neighborhood at night, please write down the license plate if possible.
If you are one of the fuckers in the white van reading this right now, I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, BUT I WILL LOOK FOR YOU, I WILL FIND YOU, AND I WILL turn you into the police (sigh).

Who in this day and age leaves a purse and iPod in an unlocked car? That area is not the country, there's dozens of houses jammed up all together.

Hey OP, we live in the same area and my neighbors reported that their cars had been left unlocked and were pilfered last weekend; some jewelry and loose change taken.
There is a rash of this behavior from time to time. It will probably cease when the teenagers (boys) are back in class after Labor Day.

Who leaves valuables in their car? I mean, take your wallet out of a purse but leave the purse seems kinda stupid. And where do you live? Baby needs a new pair of shoes.
