Firehouse Subs...review thread.

I'm always on the prowl for a good sammich so, I gave these guys a try today...

Medium meatball sub, chips and a soft drink...$9.00.

Atmosphere: A If you're not into firemen, firehouses and firetrucks their interior design will be a turn off. I liked it. They had vintage photos of local NOVA fire departments. If you have kids, this is a go to place to dine. From an expense point of view though, I just don't think it's a wise business model to put that kind of money into the interior design of a fast food restaurant. And how dated are these things going to look in 7 years...or 10 years?

Cleanliness: A The place was spotless, including the shitter.

Service/Friendliness: C+ The staff is absolutely friendly and the guys on the make-line greeted me immediately. This seems to be the new trend in fast food though thankfully it wasn't the annoying, "WELCOME TO MOE'S!!!" line. Just a simple, "Hey...welcome to Firehouse." The service however once you get in there and place your order needs work...A LOT of work. I get that their whole hook is the steamed sub but, during the lunch rush it just takes too damn long for them to prepare orders and they had a full crew on the make line. If you are considering dining here, I advocate calling in your order ahead of time even if it's not the lunch rush. When I was standing there waiting on my order, 11 other phone orders were picked up.

Quality/Value: B This was my first visit so, it's not a good sample. I was neither impressed nor disappointed. They offer a pulled pork on King's Hawaiian roll with cole slaw that some of the other customers were raving about so, I'll try that next time and perhaps they'll move up a bit. But, glancing through their menu, there's nothing really unique or unusual. Then again...it's a deli so, I'm not really expecting anything revolutionary. The steam sub thing is ok. I don't feel like it's anything to write home about but again with a different selection, perhaps I'll change my tune. $9 for a sub combo seems a bit high for the ok quality. I can chisel that down a buck or two at Harris Teeter or Wegman's and improve the quality quotient significantly. But, I don't usually get a meatball sub at Harris Teeter or Wegman's so that's not really a fair comparison.

Overall: B I like it enough to back but, I don't feel the need to go out of my way for it. And remember kids...call ahead with your orders!

I love sandwiches. Went to a Firehouse in Williamsburg I think. Good review. Agree with all points. Clean, bright, but not a memorable sandwich experience. Portions were kind of small. Budding firefighters like me want size. Wouldn't rush back.

I agree with you , OP.
Firehouse was an overall good experience but given the choice I would take a Fosters grill or pizza-rama steak and cheese. The best steak and cheese in NOVA is still Big Joes in Manassas. While Big Joe has the best food he has sticky tables and a nasty men's room.

Thank you for your service to the community OP.

I've been the one near Pinecrest a few times. Pretty good. I'd go there before Subway.

I would like to tell you about my experience at the Firehouse Subs in Herndon.

But I can't, because they have been opening it since late January and you still can not walk through the front door. I think the silver line took less time to actually build then this sub shop to open.

Unfortunatley this sub shop will never be able to live up to the hype of a year long wait.

Something just not great about food from corporate America. It's not bad just not great. The best subs out there are from one of our many Mom & Pop places around the area.

I went in the one located near Pinecrest golf course on Little River (Route 236) a while back; and before ordering I went into the restroom. Judging from its appearance, I felt it was best to simply leave without ordering. I haven't been back to one since then.

Interesting review, have you ever thought about posting it somewhere else? If I wanted more people to see my feedback on a certain company or a service, I would definitely consider PissedConsumer review platform as it is more popular than any forum.
