Centreville Football 2014
Posted by: NovaFootballfan ()
Date: August 01, 2014 11:42AM

Here we go! Ranked #5 nationally by USA Today, #8 by Max Preps, maybe the most hype ever put on a Northern Virginia team before a season has begun. How do they react? They start the season playing another top national team in Gonzaga, most probably on ESPN before a national audience.

They are loaded with returning starters who have rightfully accepted scholarship opportunities to top College football programs. They have role players who fit their schemes very well. They are coached by an experienced Coaching staff who will prepare them well and provide them a great game plan for every game.

It will come down to attitude and chemistry. Will some of the College scholarship players believe their hype? Will injuries take their toll over the course of the year? Will new starters at key positions play as well as needed to repeat as State Champions? All these questions will make for an exciting year for the defending 15-0 State Champions.

There is nothing new here. Centreville could beat an all-star team of the other Concorde teams. There is nothing to say. If they lose at all, that will be news. I suspect their toughest game will be against Oscar Smith in the 6A final.

That has a lot to do with it. There is no reason to believe that Haddock will not have them playing as a team.

They earned the right to this hype. And they deserve the attention.

No reason to think injuries will affect them more than any other team.

The only positions in question are center and quarterback. Key positions. But c'mon... with this team's talent as long as they have a warm body in those positions it will be all good. There has never been a team this loaded with a chance to repeat. It's as close to a lock as you are ever going to get.

Not really. The only question is whether a single team will get a score closer than 3 TD's. And I doubt that. They'll be fighting boredom most of their games.

This is the attitude they will have to battle all year long... Centreville is supposed to win it all, so anything less than domination of every opponent gets people talking. Haddock is a great Coach, but these are still 16-18 year old kids! They can get distracted very easily and that's all it takes. They should win it all, BUT getting it done will be a great accomplishment and a great testament to the kids and coaching staff.

I have Centreville beating Gonzaga at home to start the season. It should be a great game and a real test for the Wildcats. I am hoping it will be put on ESPN and showcase Northern Virginia football for the nation. There should be a great crowd and excitement for this one. Go Wildcats!

This is great for the school and Fairfax County football. The one thing that makes me laugh harder than anything is the fact that in the Washington Post article they quote the Centreville AD Jimmy Sanabria as saying: “I guess I talk a good game,” Sanabria said Friday with a laugh. “We just tried to paint the picture of why this is a big game and how people in this area care about high school football. Another big part was how we went out on a limb to play a public versus private school game because we don’t get any power points in the Virginia High School League ranking system that goes toward the playoffs. They really enjoyed that aspect and we’re excited for the opportunity to play on ESPN.” This idiot is the biggest loser AD in Fairfax County, he had NOTHING to do with getting this game on ESPN, just like he has done nothing to improve the Centreville Sports programs over the years. Anything that gets done at Centreville is in spite of this incompetent poser. The only good thing is any Coach with balls pushes this guy around at their will. Haddock might as well be the AD as he does whatever he wants, and thank God for that.

Let's honestly state what this first game is. It's a great time for very skilled players and a great CVille team and to appear on national TV against a very skilled and talented Gonzaga team.

This is an opportunity 99% of high school football will never receive.

This game in the standings means nothing. It's all about pride. ESPNU would love a close game but both teams would likely prefer a game that they cruise into a win. A close game would justify both team's rankings. A blow out will kill one's rankings, especially Cville but rankings mean nothing. Look at last year's state championship.

Just a reminder that 3 years when Cville got hammered in that loss to Oscar Smith, Oscar Smith was blown out by Gilman,MD in their initial game 50+ to 20.

Win or lose vs Gonzaga, CVille 'should' cruise through the rest of the season until the State Championship. This team has so many weapons, and is loaded on offense and defense. The '2nd' team will likely see plenty of time against the 1st team of almost every other NoVa opponent.

Roughly how much playing time did Ferrick get at QB last year? From what I understand he played the second half of almost all their games?

Re: Centreville Football 2014

Ferrick played almost the entire second half of almost all the meaningless games last year. It is an even bigger testament to how good last years team was, Ferrick was not the only backup that played almost the entire second team played the entire second half of these games. The Defense would have had at least 3 more shut outs had they played the entire season. Ferrick has plenty of experience and it will come down to can he handle the pressure of being the starting QB on a team that should play for the State Championship. If he can, than Centreville should play Oscar Smith again in an epic rubber match for the Championship. If he stumbles or cannot handle the pressure than Centreville may get tripped up in the playoffs but I don't see that happening.

Centreville man handled Hylton tonight 35-6 (6 coming against the Cville JV). Basic offenses and defenses were played but Cville is the better team and showed it tonight. Hylton is a quality team and they may see each other again.

Fortunately for centreville, based on how they played against Hylton, the 3rd best team in the state of VA, they certainly have more than one best player so AJ Turner being injured will be a non-issue.

How do you know Hylton is the 3rd best team in the state? What if Hylton finishes the season 9-4? Just because a newspaper or publication says so doesn't mean anything. Same for Centreville. No one can say who the best team is yet; the season hasn't even started. It's really stupid and childish but I guess some people take it seriously.

Re: Centreville Football 2014

Of course Hylton might go 1-9 but based on who is coming back, the quality of the program over recent years, etc. prognosticators make their best guess that Hylton is somewhere between the 3rd and 6th best team in the state preseason. Now they have to prove it. But what is clear is CVille manhandled a very strong program 35-6 in scrimmage - they were not playing a cream puff last night.

All done without VA player of the year AJ Turner. Other teams in VA be afraid, very much afraid.....plus the way some of the underclassmen looked while maybe not as dominant the next few years as now, the CVille run might keep on going for awhile....

Are you serious? Of course any true football fan can tell you whether a team is awful, bad, good or great. Do you watch High School football? I can tell you right now before one game is played the State Championship will be played between Centreville and Oscar Smith. Write it down and remember where you heard first. Centreville may not lose a game all year! The only chance they lose is to Gonzaga in an out of State matchup against a nationally ranked team. They will plow through the North and meet Smith in the Championship.

You must be joking! Annandale out hit Centreville! Did u mean their car doors hitting Cville car doors in the parking lot? That's the only place it could have happened. For Centreville this scrimmage was like kicking a puppy. To easy and distasteful real quick. Good Luck to the Atoms! you can always say you scrimmaged the best. This was an extremely disappointing game (unless you're a Gonzaga fan). Final score: 31-14 Gonzaga.

From the opening drive, Gonzaga drove the ball all over Centreville's defense. For being talked up so much, I though the Cville defense would have put up a little more of a fight. DB's were getting burned on deep balls often, and the Gonzaga RB (Illinois verbal) had about 200 yds rushing tonight. Judging by tonight, their defense may have their hands full with some other running games this year.

Also, what the heck is up with Ferrick at QB?! He should not be allowed to throw the football when you have a couple D-1 guys running the ball. His throws were all over the place and his decision making was absolutely horrible (1 interception at the end in the end zone, another pick-6 that was called back, and a few other "almost" int's).

As stated, this game will be written off because AJ Turner wasn't playing. Honestly, he would not have made much of a difference in this game.

Very very disappointing performance. I said repeatedly all last season that Scott Walter was what made that offense run so smoothly - very underrated - people only wanted to talk about the D1 recruits.

Now that being said, don't get all crazy here - I doubt Centreville will lose another game until they are deep in the playoffs... if at all.

To many losses from last year, particularly their star QB, Scott Walter. Probably the most underrated QB in the northern region in a long time.

Overall tackling was poor. Offensive line was average. Defensive secondary was terrible. And Ferrick is simply not Scott Walter. Some poor play calling as well.

On the good side, Richbourg was surprisingly good replacing Boose at times. Tutt looked great on his return, although I don't understand why he let the kicker take him out of bounds. (That's just a stutter step, and then hit the gas. Wasted precious time.) Boose also looked terrific, when got some room to maneuver.

Overall, very disappointing. This is not the 2013 Centreville team. The 2013 team was the best team in the country, period. They would have demolished Gonzaga and beaten the 2013 Booker T. Washington team.

This 2014 team has been living off that 2013 team's reputation. They need to find themselves quick or they won't make it back to the state championship. The rest of the northern region was watching and they are waiting to pounce.

Archie Bunker, you are just as stupid now as Carol O'Connor was in the 70's. (Yeah, I know it's Carroll, but O'Connor was a jackass, so he gets a woman's name.)

Did you also look at last year's polls as well? The polls showed Centreville rising every week after they destroyed Robinson. The rest of the country increased it's opinion of the team rapidly at the end of the season. The season ended before Centreville got the credit it deserved in the polls.

Try focusing on the issues. This years team is not at the same level as last years. If you want to debate that, fine. If you want to discuss spelling you are on the wrong thread.

Well the Wildcats answered any questions about a hangover after the Gonzaga watch with a beat down of West Potomac. Shut out 54-0 on a team that may make the playoffs. Hayfield will be a better test as they played Westfield tough. Probably not a shut out BUT another beat down, Hayfield better hope Cville is not trying to make a statement with this one.

Hayfield reminds me of SOCO last year. Strong O, no D.

CVille should rack up points against them but can they stop Hayfield offense from scoring enough to make it interesting. Hayfield played Westfield and SOCO to about the end.

This game could tell the rest of NOVA football where CVille lies. I think everyone believes CVille will win. Last week, without Boose, Turner and Brooks, the game was over in the first qtr. Assuming CVille wins, the determination is when will the game be over. If the game is over by halftime, watch out NOVA especially since Turner and Brooks are out this week, too

Westfield Week! Gonna be a great atmosphere for High School football and probably the first of two times these teams will play each other. Centreville is starting to get some of their studs back and playing better as a team. Westfield just beat a very good Stone Bridge team and has all the motivation it needs to try and make this a great game. Hopefully the weather holds out as this should be a lot of fun.

It's definitely going to be a great game if you're a Centreville fan because it's going to be a blow out. Btw, anyone know what the worst loss Westfield has ever experienced? I have a feeling tomorrow's score is going to break it.

Their first game ever - they lost 34-0 to Lafayette back in 2000. Their two losses to Centreville last year (28-0 and 35-14) do also rank in the top 10 of their worst losses ever. 34 points is definitely in reach. Westfield has only lost 11 games by 10 or more points since they started football in 2000.

Winning 11 out of 15 match-ups doesn't constitute much of a "rivalry"....sure, they're located close to each other, but Centreville needs to put up some more wins!

C'mon - this is a great rivalry. Two of those 4 Centreville wins were in the playoffs when it counted the most. Both of those 2011 games were memorable high school football battles and tonight's 42-41 2OT Westfield win was another epic game that reminded me very much of 2011.

Centreville plenty good. If Tutt doesn't get hurt they win that game. Kinda ironic - Lake Braddock lost Alexander at the half also but they were able to gut out the win against Westfield without him. Centreville not able to do it without Tutt.

But the fact is he DID get hurt. Things like that happen. Good teams overcome that.

History will repeat itself! Mark my words, just like 2011 Centreville will have the last laugh as they win the State Semi Final after a one point loss to Westfield in the Regular Season. The only question will be is it on Centreville turf or Westfield? Either way Westfield loses the big game AGAIN when it really counts.

No question it was close. But not definitive from the video there. I'm sure someone will have still photos that might show more clearly.

First screen shot Nickens Yzer is already down. Second screen shot he is bouncing of the turf.

The kids got a point though. It's no coincidence that both games they lost was when they took nickens-Yzer out of defense. Go look at the hayfield game. He shut down everything up the middle. Could have done the same in overtime if he were in. The coaches are outsmarting themselves which is why C'ville won't repeat.

_______________________________________________________________________________Did Centreville win it last year with the help of good coaching, or are you saying they won it last year in spite of the coaching? I'm assuming the coaching staff is the same this year? So, have the coaches gotten worse and are now making poor coaching decisions or were they making poor decisions last year but they were masked?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

I'm a lacrosse coach however I'm speaking from the perspective of a coach. Just 7 words...if it ain't broke don't fix it. They won last year because of good coaching and good players. just stick to what worked last year. No need to reinvent the wheel. I know they lost their top LB and Qb so of course they have to be replaced. But the players who are still there who helped C'ville win the championship should continue to play and not be substituted.

But then again I'm a lacrosse coach (not for C'ville) so what do I know.

Great win for Westfield and hopefully Centreville coaches learn a lot from this game. They have got to learn to either trust Ferrick to throw the ball or lose. They are so one dimensional a youth coach could defense them. The other fact is without AJ Turner and Tutt they are only an above average football team. They need them along with some of their other studs healthy in the post season to reach another State Championship. I do believe with them and allowing Ferrick to throw the ball Centreville wins the North and plays Smith again.

Maybe its just the law of averages being played out. Maybe last year, everything came together for a perfect year. This year, you have injuries, you maybe don't have the same chemistry, maybe don't have the same talent, so you lose a few games. It happens; it aint the end of the world. Get into the playoffs and see what happens. The coaches know what they're doing. They're experienced and knowledgeable. Just see how it plays out.
Relax, folks.

Cville's secondary has been exposed so the coaches need to revamp it or else its over johnny. With Turner hopefully coming back soon, Tutt hopefully being healthy before the playoffs, and Nickens-Yzer moving back to safety where he supposedly being recruited they should be okay.

Couldn't agree more if they don't get Turner, Tutt back their season is done early in the playoffs. How disappointing would that be for a team that was supposed to waltz into the Championship.

Beside Westfield and probably Soco, who can compete with Centreville as is? Doesn't look like anyone. I dont get the "done early in the playoffs" comments. Who can beat them? Gonzaga doesnt count, and Westfield is a great team. After that, no one has been close...and they have not had several players each game. Just wait until it all comes together. They are clearly getting ready for the playoffs when it matters. No need to wear these guys out now, they played 15 games last year. No one else did...

If and when the Wildcats get all their players back is the question. If they get Turner back and he is ready to play. He will make them the team to beat. Tutt is another huge piece, without him their pass defense is average.

What is the deal with Turner? His wrist was in a cast at the start of the season but that was 2 months, possibly 2-1/2 months ago if he had the surgery in mid August.
