It's 'there', not 'their'. Make sure you don't have typos on your resume.

Yes, most people embellish or overstate stuff on their resume. Baldfaced lying is risky however. If you claim to have experience that you can't demonstrate once hired, you'll be let go in short order most of the time. Also, I wouldn't recommend saying you worked someplace that you didn't. But saying you had more responsibility than you really did or held a better position that you really had will usually not get discovered.

That was a typo as you mentioned. What can you normally get away with? The whole purpose of the resume is to sell yourself. Most salesman lie and are actually encouraged to. Just look at the most successful salesman, the president.

Most resumés these days are not read at all. They are too much like Sarah Sanders press briefings. Screeners will do the pre-qual checkboxes and HR-types will do the initial interviews. If you ultimately get to talk to the guy or gal whose position it is and you happen to hit if off, you might have a job.

Lying on a resume...yes, that's called Wednesday. Trim the fat to the bare minimum but stretch the truth where yiu can. Remember, a resume doesn't land you the job, it lands you an interview.

And for you interviewers out there, always research local information about the college towns of your prospects and then ask questions around that knowledge. Oh, you went to Harvard? Why is it called The Statue of the Three Lies? Oh, you went to Duke? What was your favorite bar in Durham?

People who did well at good schools often provide transcripts. Belittling people with candy-ass interview questions is not a good way to get quality applicants on board.

There is nothing wrong with putting yourself in the best light. Outright lying isn't something that I would encourage. However sometimes that is what the HR people want you to do. Employers are sometimes not realistic about what they can actually get for what they are offering. Frequently the HR people know this, but they have to fill the job anyways. So long as someone says the right thing on their resume and say the right things on their interview, HR's ass is covered.

Maybe knowing the social scene of the interviewer's college would help if the interviewer was 25. I am looking for someone who can make me a pile of money, not someone to go out drinking with after work.

Lie about the college u “attended?”
BUSTED!

Lie about your title at previous job?
BUSTED!

There’s companies like the three credit bureaus that offer services like this for corporations.

You won’t even get to the interview stage !

Sure, folks often exaggerate a bit. If you were in sales and made 272% of quota and claim "over 300% of quota", nobody's going to catch it. "over 3000%" -- that might get the wrong someone's attention. Or at least get you a question, "How did you manage that?", since short of some massively huge and unexpected sale, it suggests wild incompetence on the part of sales management.

I was asked once (back in 2001) to look over the resume of a sales guy, because he'd seen my name on our website and told his recruiter he knew me.

I looked at his creds, which included "Top sales rep at , 1986-1990".

I handed it back and said, "I'm married to the top sales rep at from 1986-1990, and her name isn't 'Chuck'!"

Surprise, he wasn't hired.

In no instance is lying a *good* idea. You never know. OP's contention that "almost everyone I know has gotten a boost somehow" can easily be reinterpreted as "I'm not very good at what I do, and am bitter about my lack of advancement". Just sayin'...

Or at least get you a question, "How did you manage that?", since short of some massively huge and unexpected sale, it suggests wild incompetence on the part of sales management.

The specifics of your claims on a resumé aren't taken seriously anyway. What's important is the generality of what your education, skills and experiences add up to. And since every workplace is diverse these days, you better have some "ability to fit in and get along" stories to tell.

Can't be much of a job if someone could get it simply by lying on a resumé.

My company tries to hire a lot of people who speak foreign languages
although there may not be a need immediately for them to do so. One clerk typist said
on her resume that she spoke fluent German. Several months later they asked her
to translate a letter one of the VP's had received and it was quickly discovered
she couldn't read a word and they fired her for lying on her resume. Be careful
what you say. It just might come back to haunt you.

This. Because it's really about how you interview and how you jell with those interviewing you.

Friends, I really want to get a job as a graphic designer in one firm. This is essentially my dream job. What do you think, is it worth asking for help in a service that is professionally preparing a resume? Heard a lot of good reviews about https://craftresumes.com/resumeediting/ Someone collaborated with them? What do you think?

OP is pretending fairfax isn't corrupt and hires mexicans instead of qualified people. which is a lie - that's exactly what they do

OP is pretending fairfax isnt' corrupt and goes by qualification, not first by politics and who knows who - also a lie, fairfax never hires by qualification

OP is pretending that a resume can get you work in fairfax - also a lie

WHAT WAS ON THE RESUME OF THE HUD (housing auth) COMMITTEE OF SEVERAL MEMBERS?

NOT A DAMN THING, THEY ARE ALL CRIMINALS

I think you shouldn't lie in your resume because along with the way the truth will come out and then you will have big problems.
I personally tried to make my own CV but I didn't make it of quality so I wasn't accepted. That's why I turned to companies like https://idealcareercoach.com that offer quality career counseling coaching services and they helped me do everything at a higher level and taught me some secrets needed to be admitted to the desired job and I am very grateful for their help there.
Has anyone here ever tried to use such services? What was your result?

I recommend not lying on a resume as it can come back to bite you later on in your job or career. Omitting information from a resume is much better than writing white lies on a resume. But be ready to have questions asked at an interview if you omit information. This guide on how to write a resume may help you: https://www.velvetjobs.com/resume/how-to-make-a-resume

EVERYONE lies when applying for jobs in federal government

if you don't then you wont even make it past hr

for KSA you have to basically answer 5 for every category

once you get the interview you then let them know you are the 5 in that skill at your company if not the world and that is usually fine

i wasn't getting any interviews for fed jobs i was well qualified for because of this and once i did this had 2 interviews within a month
